  1. Why are developers held hostage by PR?

    Lead the way, mon capitan!
  2. Double Fine got two awards

God of War is awesome. You seem to have lost your very head!
  3. Cars

Pixar movie for the fly-over states.
  4. Revolution at GDC thread

They might have as well opened my skull and took a dump in it.
  5. Revolution at GDC thread

I think Revolution is the best name they could've come up with. I also think that Dolphin is cooler than Gamecube and Ultra 64 is better than Nintendo 64 (it sounds like some sort of lame shaving utensil and that makes it in my book).
  6. BUSH:

    Amen, brutha.
  7. It feels like 1998 again....
  8. Big Easy

It is surreal. I am somewhat speechless. I am not sure how something like this could happen in the US, but it is not totally unexpected: neighbors turning on one another, killing each other in the streets of a major US city. It is not so unexpected. We're all armed to the teeth, trigger-happy, paranoid. We don't need much incentive to kill our fellow man. I don't think I've heard of reports of people in Sumatra sniping ambulances and military choppers when those came to pick them up. The looting, the anarchy, the lack of martial law, and the complete ineptness of our demagogue — all amazing. It seems so simple! Ignore the people who steal bread from grocery stores, shoot to kill those who are looting Best Buy, bring in the military (which is taking too fucking long, perhaps because there is no military to send)... So fucking inept! I want heads to roll, for fuck's sake! I can't wait for the useless media to try to turn him into some sort of patron saint of flood victims! Right now the twat is on CNN shaking hands of people standing in line to get some food from the military. IT IS A FUCKING PHOTO OP! IT IS SICKENING! SHOULDN'T HE BE SITTING IN A WAR ROOM SOMEWHERE WITH HIS CABINET, NAVIGATING THE RELIEF EFFORTS!? FUCKING HELL! I'LL SKULLFUCK THE NEXT VOICE—REPUBLICAN, HUMAN OR OTHERWISE—THAT TRIES TO RATIONALIZE ANY OF THE GOVERNMENT'S FUCKUPS! :(
  9. Why Games Suck:

Why do we have to talk in absolutes? There are no absolutes. One thing is true, tho. No geeky designer with only computer science, Sci-Fi and D&D on his mind (stereotypically speaking) has ever created anything worth spit.
  10. Bush nominated Roberts for Chief Justice.

You know, I never really realized how much he looks like Frank Burns from the MASH series... That frightens me on so many levels.
  11. Big Easy

I tend to not give a fuck about emotional appeals, but man... What the hell is FEMA doing anyway?
  12. George Bush Doesn't Care about Black People

Cajones are hard to come by on national news airwaves. Still, even with incoherence he could've been more powerful if he were angry and fuming. It really seems like he couldn't read the prompter so he improvised what he thought was there. Fameos people need to recruit some Irishman from New York (someone like George Carlin) to act as a prompter when they want to be angry, and not sound bitchy or scared.
  13. George Bush Doesn't Care about Black People

Man, I am going to make an effigy of Bush and drown it. The dude did look quite pathetic, though.
  14. Chief Justice Rehnquist dies at 80

Fucking hell. This means about 30 years of supreme court hegemony by Bush's lackeys.
  15. A thousand words.

For a second there I thouth that was a Sam quote.
  16. Hmmm.

    I'd buy one.
  17. Stupid

As everyone knows, time is just an illusion devised by the devil to make us think that 2000 years has passed, when in fact there has only been some 65, 70 max since Jesus had a really bad weekend for our sins.
  18. Stupid

    I love existential religions.
  19. "This Crazy Industry"

    You're absolved of all guilt.
  20. "This Crazy Industry"

I love the quality of the dialogue, the stage directions make me shudder.
  21. Stupid

I realized a little while ago in a moment of clarity that I enjoyed the first four Harry Potter books only because I read them in a marathon session immediately after being disappointed by Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain — which, contrary to my expectations, wasn't magical in the least. I expected something like the Walpurgis Night in Goethe's Faust, I guess. A dead Nobel laureate, through a deceitful titling of his book is to blame for my enjoyment of a pile of mediocre children's books. It is embarrasing to have to admit that I like stories with magic in them, and, apparently, dislike with considerable prejudice those that speak about magic metaphorically.
  22. The positive thread

    True story.
  23. Why games feel irrelevant?

What is funny, irony-a-plenty and worth noting is that the government paid for this game, tax money went into it, someone in the pecking order made the decision that kids shouldn't play the game if they could play as terrorists, that it would make them more prone to associating with them, liking them and so on, and decided to institute this little whammy. It is a window that shows a kind of insecurity of the institution that made the decision. Analyzing the intentions of the makers always makes a creative work of any fucking sort more worthwhile. It adds another layer to it. Comparing the politics of Beyond Good and Evil with the predicament in which Canada is now (Hyllians = Canadians, Alpha Forces = Americans, etc.), is a fun thing to do. The stuff that unintentionally arises out of a construct can be even more interesting because it gives us even better insight of a creative mind. Is the character of Mikhail in Psychonauts named Bulgakov for no reason whatsoever? Or is it an allusion to the author of Master and Margarita? There is a distinct line between wankery and earnest inquiry. Wankers take themselves too seriously. The earnest inquirers are amused or fulfilled on some transcendental level by what they do.
  24. Why games feel irrelevant?

What I said. It was posted in the interim as you were answering Jake and you may have missed it.
  25. Why games feel irrelevant?

You're such a philistine. Why not notice, for example, that the American Army game forces you to play always as the good guy (i.e. American soldier) against the bad guy (the terrorist) in multi-player. When you join a game against someone, you will both see each other as the evil guy. That surreal point of view shift carries some sort of aesthetic weight and engages, completely accidentally, in a nice little cross-civilizational political commentary. It was completely unintentional, but according to you it is not worth noticing because noticing that is not superficial enough.
