I like animals, I just wish they weren't so obnoxious while committing suicide. -

Dan, I was playing Minecraft and listening to the Fat Fucks Ain't To Blame lecture, when the sad donnydarkoesque music kicked in and made his talk sound like a tragic montage of some sort. -

From what I have read about success stories involving crime fighting in close-knit ethnic neighborhoods and fighting terrorist organizations like the IRA, these things have to be instigated and enacted from within. The best you can do from without is to support people within who want to make these changes. You can't forcefeed people democracy, if Iraq has taught us anything, etc. Also, you can look around you and do small things in your neighborhood. Small things add up. -
From what I know Isabella Rossellini is the only one to ever act in these, maybe? She did it for all these different insects. This is the first vertebrate vid of this ilk by her that I've seen.

What does this really mean? You have to start a whole new world, or you have to restart the server? And people are going to log in and be way off from where they would expect themselves to be, and maybe the spawn point will be somewhere else—but will they forever be lost somehow, coordinatewise, the game will think they're somewhere else at any given time—or is it just a temporary inconvenience? -

Patters, I seriously doubt that you do not posses the talents and skills to look up what a TED conference is. -

It is not about scientists and historians, per se, finding prescriptive solutions and delivering them top-down to the plebeians. All he's saying is that we should endeavor to develop a method to figure out what that universal flourishing thing is. It is about an attitude towards discovering an equilibrium that is not mired in oppressive baggage, such as dogmas, traditions and the fiat of the powerful. Taking care of minority interests has been the hallmark of all successful democracies for the entirety of modernity btw, why do you imagine they would throw this out the window in order to satisfy some monolithic, uniform (imaginary) majority in this new paradigm? Now, the point at which this seems utopian in scope is when you compare it to where we are now, especially in the US. Just last week, the US has fired the contractors it had hired to rebuild its house for failing to rebuild it overnight, and brought in the arsonists to finish the job. All due to sublime and awe-inspiring propaganda*effort from the right. Free-market utopianism and unqualified loathing for what little still remains of the welfare state—in addition to shameless racism/sexism/miscellaneous bigotry—is all that unites the right right now. How is this possible? Why do poor people insist on voting against their interests? The best we can hope is that this is a slow messy process. But this kind of thing is NOT about enforcing culture in the least. It is about striving to establish a method of interpreting what in the culture needs to be kept and what needs to be refined and what needs to be thrown out. Saying, WELP, I GUESS THERE WILL ALWAYS BE BIGOTRY/RAPE/INEQUALITY IN OUR CULTURE, SO BE IT. —that this will always be so, so it couldn't be tampered with is patently, provably false. Shit can change in a less oppressive, more accepting direction. And it can happen without uprooting and flushing a whole culture. -

Fresh renders are up. Someone should figure out a quick and easy way for the community to annotate these. I'll look into it if it is a slow day at work. -

We should have a vague idea when it was done and who was on the server at the time if the griefAlert plugin is working correctly. -

I tried fresher drivers, didn't change shit. And then there's this: http://www.hotheadgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=441&sid=1c1877b91204da02ad22a5d6ea0c462a#p2262

I have a Radeon X1650—the best card my AGPx8 motherboard slot would take last I updated the machine, sometime in late 2007. It uses the legacy ATI drivers. Apparently, the goddamn card has 2.0 shaders but doesn't support 24bit depth buffer which the game requires. I wish Steam warned me of games that won't run on my setup.

And makeup kits. Instead of just driving to the date or whatever, you will have to paint your character's face. It would be an interesting way to force all the macho assholes who like to beat up hookers in these games put themselves into the other's shoes. Maybe.

That thing actually uses the bridge mod. I can't wait until the bridge mod is polished up and integrated into the game. As it is, it is a bit confusing and weird and not in any way obvious (what with the fake chest and the on and off positions and materials indexes and whatnot—there has to be a way to make these things learnable from the world somehow). Won't play on my computer :( Says my graphic card is not fancy enough for it. :\

Data files kindof look different than your usual LEC game, tho. They may have "improved" them somehow for Steam.

It doesn't run through ScummVM. I tried to open the game through ScummVM, but it didn't recognize the game files. Maybe a newer version of ScummVM would work. I'll look into it later.

On a tenuously related note, I feel cheated by the Steam version of LOOM—it is super broken. The cutscene action will freeze up somewhere halfway through the audio and as soon as the audio track ends it will just speed through the rest of the frames of animation, as if they were timed by the processor cycles rather than some more reliable modern method. Or at least that is my interpretation of what is going on.

Oh, well, let's throw our hands in the air with despair and DIE! Since you guys don't have one, then I guess that makes it a thing so completely beyond all common sense that any deliberation in the direction of interactive music would be irresponsibly futile and frivolous.

Hahaha! You should've built it in the snowy regions, then it would be frosted up top.

I think the real ones should be tweeted too, with links to the relevant articles. They are so much more trainwrecky and awe-inspiring than the imaginary ones. I was reading the New York Review of Books classifieds section a few months ago—because it is funny that a paper of that caliber would have a personals section—and I stumbled upon this charm that made me think of IGN, because the thumb has deformed me: I think the weird hyphen is there because they just dump whatever is laid out for print to the web without scrubbing some of the weird artifacts that that produces.

No, it is a windows program. I wonder if there is something that we can hook up to the server, have it run daily and natively without breaking our maps or endangering the data. As it is, I will try to run it the long way every so often. -
