  1. Or, here's an alternative with a simplified booster mechanism (B), because not every access point needs to have a super fancy booster. This one requires a small push at the beginning (A).
  2. Christmas Cards

I am shocked to realize I seem to be the only responsible person here to send the card early enough to make it on time. Then again, maybe I shouldn't be shocked. Idle Thumbs! Where are those photos of the card, dude?
  3. I've drawn a couple of silly little diagrams today, so here's another one: You put your cart at A, you activate the booster loop located at B, and assuming you have already selected which way you want to go at the C lever, you are propelled down either D going bottom-right, or E going to the top-left. I wonder if I am failing to notice anything that would make this not work.
  4. Back to the Future

I bet Dave Grossman's mother in law has had no issues with the sound.
  5. Stacking

Argh, why is this not coming out for the PC?! Damn you Tim, DAMN YOU! I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR PUBLISHER'S FEELINGS, I WANT TO PLAY THIS! :(
  6. Back to the Future

Or their Inexplicably Convoluted Interfaces Department
  7. We still have admins if the public works get too epic for honest mining. I would still prefer to see it done the hard way, with people donating their ore for train purposes, etc. If we get more friendlies on the server, it shouldn't be too hard to pull off.
  8. It should be above it, a few blocks above ground. Underground trains are hard to get out of in random places of interest. Also, I have an idea of how to make a transit station that allows one to hop on the main tracks in either direction without interfering with the through traffic at all. Basically a little Ω-shaped loop with a booster loop and a couple of switches (one for the booster loop release and the other for the direction in which you want to go) that drops your cart on top of the existing tracks. That would be kindof neat.
  9. Back to the Future

I think teaching disinterested grannies and people who've been asleep for the past 30 years how to play their games seems to be a more important thing for TTG than making something that is easy to play for people who already understand what interfaces are. I really wish there was a slider in the menu somewhere that goes from "I CAN BARELY HOLD A MOUSE CORRECTLY" to "I HAVE PLAYED A GAME BEFORE". It is really fucking annoying, guys! I understand Dave Grossmann's mother in law is an important demographic for you to reach out to and teach how to play the game, but why the fuck does it have to be at the expense of your core demographic?! ARGH.
  10. Christmas Cards

If we had more stringent copyright laws back then, maybe Christianity never would have arisen! This is the best reasoning for tight copyright I have yet heard.
  11. ;( I would like to look around this world once more before we trash it.
  12. DeathSpank

You can put anything anywhere. I would replace the crossbow with them.
  13. DeathSpank

The game'll inform you how to do things along the way. Plain weapons with no green backgrounds have been outclassed by other weapons you carry. The chevrons only appear on the super fancy special weapons, and signify the level of the weapon. You will find magical weapons with more chevrons along the way. You will also eventually get more crossbows, so it is not much of a loss at this point. The non-special weapons you will get will generally be a little stronger hitpointwise than the comparable magical weapons, so there is still a use for them.
  14. Life

Speaking of ginger, this year, instead of thinking what to get each individual person, I'm gonna make everyone the same thing: ginger biscotti which I have invented yesterday. I basically combined a recipe for ginger snaps with your run-o-the mill awesome, straight biscotti. The test batch was good, but it lacked something, so I think hazelnuts and cardamom and bits of crystalized ginger and a shitton of fresh ginger ought to do the trick (I had used powdered ginger alone in the test batch but that stuff lacks the punch of the real deal). If you're anywhere near San Antoan this xmaz, drop by and try some (served with the best latte you've ever had).
  15. Double Fine Action... Podcast?!

What were the two gaming podcasts that Tasha mentioned? Are they any good?
  16. Awesome TED Talks (and similar enlightening lectures)

But if he committed a crime and has an unfair trial, he should go free? Frankly, I have little doubt in the allegations themselves; it is not fair to call them "strange." A lot of what sounds "strange" about them is stirring of waters on the Assange side of the equation. I think they were made in good faith a long time ago by a couple of girls who say they were assaulted. If they were political from the get-go, they wouldn't have petered out only to resurface in this crazy hair-on-fire fashion. There is no doubt the international apparatus wants him dead for blatantly political reasons. It is also valid to point out all of these fancy dudes on the left who are ridiculing rape in order to get him off. No one looks good in this situation. The worst thing we should be doing right now is discrediting the girls who brought this suit up. They make for an easy target and they are the most vulnerable piece on the board here. Frankly, I think him falling pray to the hubris of his creep penis in conjunction with the complete overreaction from the government apparatus will make for a net positive thing. Idealistic bureaucrats split into two camps: those who love their government and those who love democracy and freedom of the press and justice, all those things that their government is supposed to stand for. The latter camp will not look kindly upon the knee-jerk crackdown and are more likely to leak more as a result, not less. Wikileaks is has done some good things, but they are still too centralized for anyone's good. So fuck them all. Fuck Assange for being a coked-up chauvinist fucker. And fuck Keith Olbermann and Michael Moore for ridiculing rape as they apotheosize Assange. And fuck Joe Biden for claiming WikiLeaks is a terrorist organization. And fuck the many disparate and uncoordinated branches of the US government which think blocking websites such as The Guardian and The New York Times and forbidding thumb drives will somehow solve the problems of disenchantment in their midst.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

Ahem. I have no illusions about the quality of the original film, but the new one is 25 kinds of stupid. The spoiler in my post above is really not a spoiler, it is a generalized angry rant. Also, I owe you a reply and I haven't forgotten, I'm just currently a tad on the busy side.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

The two go hand-in-hand in an odd way. Just like, say, Solaris and 2001 did.
  19. Awesome TED Talks (and similar enlightening lectures)

They kindof are. I couple of years ago, I dunno if I would've agreed with that statement either, but lately I've been paying attention to feminist issues. A lot of the patriarchy on the right is still in the "the woman was asking for it" frame of mind. You hear a lot of "there is no such thing as rape within the institution of marriage." And the mainline "pro-lifers" basically want to force rape victims to bear their unwanted rape children, no compromise on that. It is some fucking scary shit. Might as well call the right "pro-rape".
  20. Awesome TED Talks (and similar enlightening lectures)

My understanding is that the nature of the "sex by surprise" allegations has been somewhat muddled by the Assange-friendly internet, Michael Moore and Keith Olbermann. Tiger Beatdown has been really vocal about how wrong the coverage by the sympathetic left has been.
  21. Awesome TED Talks (and similar enlightening lectures)

I think this is not a right reaction. One can be a rapey creep and still do important things, but that is no reason to summarily choose not to believe that he raped some girls, regardless of how politicized the allegations are. These things should be taken on balance.
  22. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    Yes, it looks very uncomfortable.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Don't watch Tron 2. Boy, that was a load of shit.
  24. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

That's the dumbest thing I heard all day. You need to get your shit together, man, Texas is pretty fucked politically. Being self-righteously ignorant ain't gonna fix nothin. :(
