What you're saying seems to be that it is somehow PC's fault as a platform that no one cares to properly release things for it. This is false, but also false.
-
You know that you cannot do anything that dynamic without any kind of scripting, be it PHP or javascript? Can you describe the actual interaction between visitors and this feed, you and this feed, rss and this "feed"? I don't think we're any clearer on what it is you're trying to do after ten posts. Maybe all of your problems cab be solved with a twitter widget?

This is ridiculous. None of these are anywhere near insurmountable obstacles which you make them out to be. People are still making PC games without making a huge ado about any of these problems/decisions.

I wouldn't say I am angry. I am just flamboyantly irritated. I think the impersonality of the internet strikes again.
-
I suspect they don't. It looks to me that they run by common wisdom which is at best a couple of years behind the data. And the common wisdom de jour is probably still more anxious about piracy than success stories in the indie domain show is reasonable. I don't think I should say, OH OK, I GUESS THIS GAME IS NOT FOR ME THEN! and just mope in the corner. All I want to do is give them my money! And it sounds to me like all DF is doing is refusing to (at the very least) try to to make a case for a wider release with the publishers. It blows my mind that they have full creative control and yet claim their hands are tied on this one issue. Make a spreadsheet outlining the PC successes in the last couple of years, project X profit for further Y investment, put on a suit and pitch the proposal. Just do it. Then tell us you tried.

You know, that is all great and everything but I don't really give a shit. I hardly play games any more. I cannot really justify buying a console right now. I, the dude who ran the Church of Tim for years there, am not their target audience. If DF sees it as impolite or whatever to show the publishers that there is a large whine from the fanbase, and try to persuade them to output to another venue, fuck them. I don't feel like blindly spamming random publishers to get PC versions of these games made.

Because they couldn't sell a whale? Maybe they should've made a tie-in with Sea World.

It looks hilarious! If you see it as generic, I don't think you watched the same trailer. It is completely over the top ridiculous.

Even when scroll lock did things, back in the early nineties, I am not sure what it did exactly, even though I remember having to use it to start certain programs.
-
I wouldn't mind it myself if we could just let it gracefully degrade. But at the eleventh hour, the account executive will come in and act shocked that the site doesn't look exactly like it did in the design, whereupon we always have to bend over backwards talking about seeing color tv on black and white tv sets and how much more time it would take to get all those rounded corners happening, etc. Also, I see in my stats a decent cross section of the great unwashed masses of middle-of-the-road internet consumerdom, and I only get at most about 5% IE6. These sites are predominantly in the US though. I hear China is still majority IE6, or something along those lines.

Ron Gilbert tweeted this interesting article about the state of Hollywood. He suggested replacing the word 'movie' for 'game' to be depressed in yet another direction.

IE9 is not going to support a slew of CSS3 things that are commonplace in sites and which the rest of the browsers have been supporting for many releases now. Also, it is going to be Vista+7 only, which means that the XP users, which are still quite a large share of the market, will stay with IE8 until the end of time.

Is it just me or have the barriers to entry to web scripting grown astoundingly large in the last dozen or so years? I mean, I started with Netscape Composer back when you didn't really have style sheets. I discovered that people were using tables through reverse engineering. I picked up PHP for fun, casually, by looking at some phpbb code at the dawn of PHP 4. It seems nowadays you can't do anything worthwhile because you have to know mysql+php+html+css+javascript before you can even make a thing. And you don't even have to do any of that stuff, because it is effortless to start a blog and no amount of coding on your part is going to be as slick as what tumblr or blogger have to offer. And all the code that you can look at is crazy unintuitive and nonlinear, with OOP creeping into everything. And the casually curious can't even make heads and tails of fancy sites like gmail, since everything is hyper optimized and generated client-side and all human-readable bits have been excised. And with moving into retarded, closed platforms with heavy-handed gate-keepers like iOS, programs are more difficult to just make and release, so programming in general is probably going to become a niche dark art. Is there anyone out there younger than 60 who knows assembly language any more? Maybe this is all BOOKS ARE GOING TO DIE OUT BECAUSE KIDS TODAY DON'T KNOW HOW TO CAST LEAD SLUGS AND SET TYPE! kind of myopic thinking. Maybe the generation past ours ("we" being the generation that grew up with digital pr0n and is now inventing your youtubes and twitters and facebooks and such) will have some sort of intuitive grasp of the internet that we lack which is needed to advance it beyond wherever we can push it. Ok. Pheuh. I am done. This whole rant is the flip-side of my usual rant, which goes to the tune of FUCKING INTERNET EXPLORER IS KEEPING US IN THE DARK AGES WITH ANTIQUATED TECHNOLOGY WHICH THEIR RETARDED USER BASE REFUSES TO REGULARLY UPDATE.

Yes, except that is not a valid url. What are you trying to link to anyway?
-
I don't know if that is necessarily a good thing... can you take some screenshots for us, for please?

There is an icon in the toolbar that helps you with that too:

Someone had to put in the bg-color-animating code… It is not accidental. Thanks! And yeah, we tried to restart work on Herzog many times through the years and it would always get more convoluted and difficult to conceive, rife with plot hole trap doors and missing motivations, but we may yet bring it back. Zog is not dead, he is just confused and dormant. Since Herzog has been not-happening for so long, Hobo Lobo is an attempt for me to start something going, lest my creative glands atrophy. This one is very, very likely to be finished, btw, I promise! Finishability was one of its primary objectives while it was being conceived. I am also sketching out another project with Mrs. Kingzjester which is going to have a yet completely different flavor from both Herzog The Vile and Hobo Lobo, so stay tuned.

I do get an urge to replay Morrowind every now and again, just for the music. As soon as I leave the ship and meet the first ugly denizens, the urge passes. It is too bad, since I really enjoyed the world of Morrowind more than Oblivion or Fallout 3...

So I listened to feedback and nerfed the quinacridone background in favor of something that makes your eyes bleed less. The second page is going to have completely different colors anyway. I'm thinking something like this. From left to right: site bg—accent—set—characters—highlight.

Anus burgers for the whole family!

Yeah, sorry, just the way the right is in this country. The gun lust is just a facet of how fucked up and fascist they are...

It is a populist nationalist movement obsessed with purity which shows immense love for their business overlords. It is far more fascist than Obama is communist or socialist. ARHG! POOP! POOP UPON BOTH YOUR HOUSES! :( Comical videos! 10TfxcE1K4I
