You can rent all their fancy Criterion Collections of Tati movies at once, watch them, then drive back and return them. It is really a Mecca for filmophiles. They have some really rare shit, some of it still on VHS because it was only ever available on VHS.

That was mildly entertaining! Good job, syntheticgerbil—you lived up to expectations, as advertised!

Don't think of it as just a place to rent movies, think of it as a PILGRIMAGE. Also, it is bizarre to me that anyone who up until recently lived in Houston sees a 40 minute roundtrip as anything other than a brisk excursion.

Ahahahahah: "we're between banks right now, just make those checks out to CASH right now"

Idiocracy is a kind of movie that has to be taken on its own terms. You have to come back to it later and watch it with no preconceived notions. I thought it was meh at first, but as I let it fester in the background of my consciousness for a few years, I've come to appreciate the biting satire that happens in the periphery of the utterly banal story. Works well as a double feature with Children of Men. They are both similar movies. Both feature a really stupid central story that weaves you in through these well-considered, preposterous set pieces which are the true point and driving force of the film. And syntheticgerbil, as for Tati, I am pretty sure I Luv Video on Airport Blvd has all of his films. You live in Austin now, you have no excuse not having a membership there.

I actually had the Baader Meinhof phenomenon play out with the Baader Meinhof—culminating in the discussion of the Baader Meinhof phenomenon itself. It was a weird thing.

Ah, yes, durr, the price of natural dyes is a good point... Just stumbled upon this: http://www.themarysue.com/gender-specific-clothing-for-children/ Baader Meinhof phenomenon in action

Ungh, child abuse...

I can see some validity to this—though this is the first time I hear this theory verbalized—Virgin Mary's color throughout history has been blue. I don't know how culturally universal this is or was in the West, let alone elsewhere, tho.

If it is irrelevant, take it off... you're just making us scroll more...

My cynical, Noam-Chomsky-filled mind is somewhat blown by that fact that "special-forces" figures in at all. I know that the military industrial complex has been helping market toys and movies for a while now (where was it that I read this recently... I can't seem to remember... Oh, I think it was in the context of David Sirota's new book) but I thought it was more subliminal than this.

It seems that has become a standard trope of Minecraft machinima, tutorials, demo vids.: ...and then they all lived happily ever after were all blown up by creepers. The End. It may be beginning to overstay its welcome.

There you go! Problem solved. -
If you've never seen any Jacques Tati movies you should get right on it. I would start with Mon Oncle (1958) which is the beginning of the crystallization of his main themes, then Play Time (1967) which is their apex of polish, and then Trafic (1971) which at first seems to take it back a notch from where Play Time left off, but in some ways ups the ante by making a more rough, grungy movie that sometimes seems like it has documentary footage edited in throughout. If at this point you haven't had enough, I'd suggest going back to Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (1953), and then rewatching all of them in chronological order. Personally, I can watch any of these movies over and over. There is always so much going on in in every shot that you're bound to see something new.

Bah, you can still play inventory tetris. But the sort button does help. -
The illusionist was quite lovely. It managed to capture that Jacques Tati tone unexpectedly well. As for the photograph he has with him, I want to see more movies that use that weird language cocktail thing that is simultaneously impenetrable, confusing and obvious. Tati's own Trafic does that really well.

Can't you close them by clicking outside the modal chest screen? -
Personally, I miss John Major. He was such a clueless cartoon. So much more preferable than any of the other douches we've been talking about. Edit: ...or rather, which subbes has mentioned. I am including Thatcher in there, because she is implied.

"now"? "apparently"? Also, no. He totally doesn't want any of the benefits.

Thanks for all the info, dudes.

It is really bizarre to me that there is no official method for implementing plugins. I would've thought that would be more important than achievements. -
... on that note, what is the preferred flavor of Win7? I don't care about backwards compatibility of the accounting software I bought in 1998, but I don't want to accidentally buy Granny's AOL Machine™ edition, as I suspect all versions may be labeled with equally connotation-free, unenlightening corporate superlatives. Sorry I'm spamming my own thread. Kingz doesn't get it, when will Kingz get it, etc.

I don't know if I can use my old XP on a completely different machine... All the hardware tweakery through the years has expired my allocated number of installs. My mother works at a university and my sister is still enrolled at one, so I can probably get them to grab me a copy of Win 7 for a pittance.
