Hey, maybe this was on his Amazon wish list for years.

Wow, this thread got almost exciting. I am still confused by what you meant by "bitching and moaning about 'entitlement'"—and because you're not gonna elaborate, I'll just stone cold invent what you were going to say: Also, it is not rape—it is a present.

We have one of these and a French press as our primary coffee machines at home. I think we also had a moka pot at some point… but that could've been my old roommate's. The Toddy is pretty rad. You put half a kg of coarsely ground coffee in it, cover it in water and leave it overnight (there is more of a method but you can read that in the directions). The coffee is super concentrated when you uncork the thing and drain it, but not bitter and it will keep in the fridge for weeks. You can boil some water, throw a couple of gluggs of coffee and milk into it and have yourself a hot one. If you generally sweeten your coffee to nerf the bitterness, you may not even have to do that here.

Idle Thumbs 37: You Gotta Have Spice
MrHoatzin replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I generally have a relationship with Idle Thumbs dedicating obscene amounts of its time derailing into real-time meta analyses of its own format. It is something you cannot not do—and is fun generally as it adds a bit of gonzo sausage-making to the wacki vigi varieti hour you've invented… but, you know… Beware, etc. -
Bureaucracy makes people stupid.

I'm looking forward for the new Glottis model.

No worries, I figured it was something like that.

Woo, fully baked new logo is officially a thing! I dig the pixelated look too. I wish the pixel artiness read as more intentional. Something to explore in future treatments perhaps.

Jugt gay the word and I'll throw a laggo!

I am not sure why, but that sounds completely crazy to me. What is the difference between my first impression and that of someone who is on the fence about this game? Is buyers remorse somehow automatically less powerful than a first impression? I for one seldom stick with my first impressions on anything and anyone. Maybe something can be said for already having developed a kind of "I already the warm fuzzies about this game" feelings what with its thorough panderousness to my interests and the opportunity to rub marketplace realities in the face of boring stewards of coffers of culture—that I will suffer through early ugliness 'cause it's my baby, whereas someone else might not have the benefit of rose tinted glasses. All that said, this game has very much already made quite a resounding first impression on everyone and nothing about it exists yet. I can't imagine any bit of first info that is legitimately or otherwise unleashed upon the world will not be prefaced by the story about the Double Fine Adventure up to that point, thereby already being a contained pitch as to why this whatever ought to be appreciated, perceived flaws be damned. Ultimately, there are trolls and wacky stupid people on these here internets. Who gives a shit, you know? C'est la guerre.

K1PsDyhNFBI Have I shared this one with you before? Bears repeating. AMERICA, in two minutes and forty-six seconds.

It is not directly bad for Double Fine tho. They would want to reward only those who supported them and in the future, if the wall is too porous, there will be less direct incentive for the more crass of fans to support them. But if you go overboard in policing the porousness, you risk alienating those fans who paid in and all they want now is for Tim to have more exposure and fans. Some of those people the leakers bring into the fold are super likely to pony up moneys next time Tim starts something. It is a pretty standard argument you hear a lot from people smart about how piracy can be leveraged. I think ultimately they should not encourage sharing the stuff, but err on the side of less enforcement. Maybe they can sell entry into the super secret community and the documentary separate from the Kickstarter—the latecomers can get access to the films through Vimeo...

Stick with this one. lD--C7jRZKI

It is really not sabotage. It is sharing. I think they should just ask the community to try to police this shit and not spend too much air freaking out about it. If something slips out, it has slipped. Oh well.

I only gave them 30 bucks... I was thinking about pledging either $100 or $250 but Sal was outraged, so I didn't. Even though that backer t at the $100 level is mighty nice, this has been a stupid month as far as miscalculating expenses goes, so I don't actually, literally have any more money to add to the pot whether I want to or not.

This would be more useful as a graph.

I am not on your list, huff, puff, , etc. @MrHoatzin

IDLE THUMBS: A Retrospective In Triple A
MrHoatzin replied to Roderick's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Wacky! -
Having finished high school in Galveston, I can tell you that Moody Gardens is not all that awesome... It's a carefully engineered scam for leeching off the public teat. They are a national park or whatever on one hand, they get school kids to come and clean up the LoneStar cans and golf balls out of the marshes around the resort as community service, get all kinds of tax breaks as such—but then they're a fancy golf course and a hotel-resort with an electrified fence and a KEEP OUT, FILTH sign on the gates.
-
Are you sure that wasn't generated by the world?
-
I still think it would be a rad idea to do an as-dense-as-possible, as-vertical-as-possible, reasonably safe city with dangerous frontier outside. Now that the world height has been doubled, this can be super rad. That said, I dunno if I have the time to dedicate to it, or if anyone else cares to, so mootness all around.

All of these "rules" are really more "guidelines". If you can break them well, you're free to do so. I think generally tho, you wouldn't want to alienate your players before they get to play your game by denigrating it in its title—unless you have some conceptual reason to do so. All that said, The Ball Is Too Fast, The Game Is Too Slow, The Name Is Too Long is a pretty succinct way to explain what you're all about. Natch, I hope I will manage to get back to you later today with some thoughts.
