Tune in to this week's episode of Idle Thumbs for the fascinating answer to that baffling conundrum.

Unless they would actually get MORE eyes on it from doing a leak, which seems extremely unlikely to me, I don't know what the point of leaking would be. Seems like you'd get tons more reach and awareness by just doing a big story with IGN or Kotaku. The super hardcore audience that picks things apart on Reddit and GAF doesn't seem like the most important audience mere weeks before launch. At this point in the marketing cycle you want to be going as broad as possible.

That's how Raz is basically all day every day. He is one of the most fascinating individuals I've ever met.

It's just crazy Unicode diacritic character abuse.

This is a weird one. It was recorded last Thursday because I'm out of town this week. Next week's is even weirder, since we recorded it directly after recording this week's. "Last week, Thumbs invited 2K Marin's Steve Gaynor to help pre-record a low- key cast on nuclear plant sims, traffic sims, sewage construction sims, bus sims, boat sims, and ghosts. Riveting stuff." Games discussed: Persona 4, Minotaur China Shop, Hitman: Blood Money, The Last Express, Penumbra, SimCity iPhone, Retro/Grade, Cities XL, Sonic & the Black Knight, Three Mile Island, Energy Czar, Ship Simulator 2010: Extremes [/url] RSS http://www.idlethumbs.net/

They are fundamentally different because when you get hired at a game studio you are being hired for full-time, long-term salaried employment, not guild- or union-protected contract work. It often requires relocating yourself and your family, because there is no equivalent to Hollywood (or Vancouver or whatever) where a huge proportion of the work is located, and even if there were, it's a lot more difficult to hire people (and to get hired) for a salary job with benefits than it is to simply bring someone on for a temporary contract. You CAN get hired at a game studio with the understanding that you'll only have a six-month contract, or you'll just be on until the game ships (this isn't uncommon with testing staff, for example), but that is absolutely not standard for most disciplines and positions. Generally, the understanding is that it is intended to be a long-term position, same as any other full-time professional job.

Yeah but that WOULD clearly be the implication, if used in a similar context to the pot/kettle comment.

Hey guys I heard about this cool video game podcast so I decided to check it out, it was pretty cool and I liked listening to it. I thought the four people who were on it worked really well together, is that the same crew you have every week? I hope so. I will keep downloading it and listening to it if that is the case.

I'm so excited to watch this. It's such a bummer to not get to be part of it again, but it'll be fun to see the documentaries from the outside. I wish Lee Petty had gotten to make his game, but him being on Dear Leader (along with Anna Kipnis and Gabe Miller) really stacks that team, so I'm super optimistic about it.

Yes, it is excellent. It is a quiet and understated portrait of a life, from beginning to end. Beautiful prose but not showy. Told almost entirely by way of the interior life of its central character. Just great.

I really love this.

Nintendo has had multiple straight quarters of losses, with a projected loss for their overall fiscal year, after previously predicting a return to profitability. How is this a profitable hardware business? (Or a profitable business of any kind?)

What about drinking water the night before though
