You can have sprites in webdevelopment aswell. I think a sprite is a big image containing several smaller images. And depending on what needs to be shown show that part of the sprite.

I just rewatched quantum of solace. And I think it's one of the best Bond movies ever made. There, I said it. All you Quantum of Solace haters can flame all you want. I still think it's a great movie . I can't wait for the next Bond movie.

The reason you should use 8 bit png's instead of GIF's is that 9 times out of 10 the 8bit png has a smaller filesize. And smaller files mean less bandwidth usage. Oops, sorry about that But yeah, I am one of those guys who likes to tinker with stylesheets and html all day so I might have sounded a bit preachy.
