It's "Video Games," thank you.

This one time we recorded a podcast and it was horrible. We recorded this one, too, and released it instead. "Shambling, Goofy" After an earlier attempt to record goes down in flames, we bring you this tale of mice and mods and Miyamoto, of nerds, their noises and Neo Tokyo, of DOTA clones and questions asked, of adventures past and pods cast. Enjoy. Games Discussed: NeoTokyo, Epic Mickey, Fat Princess, Halo Wars, Command & Conquer 4, Dark Void, Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, Pikmin 2, Full Throttle, King's Quest VI

Thanks, I'll give it a try. The problem I had is that it's not actually "taught" -- the dialog about how to perform the move comes up once, and I either performed it accidentally or the game didn't care if I performed it or not, and then I could never get that dialog to come up again, couldn't find a controls or help screen in-game, the manual doesn't tell you anything beyond default button binds, and at least at the time none of the FAQs on GameFAQs had a decent controls section beyond a reprint of the manual or a "coming soon." Incredibly frustrating. Work showed up and prevented me from getting much further, but I'm part way through Ch 3 - Borneo - and liking the game a lot.

Am I doing something wrong, besides generally being bad at games and not expecting to have to shoot guys as often as I am? I'd really like to be able to round the corner of a square pillar while staying against the wall. Anything I try to do to achieve this will cause my guy to either jump away from the wall, sprint to another pillar, or simply leave cover and start standing out in the open. Is there a way to just round that 90 degree angle without bouncing in and out of the cover mode?

Another vote for Portal. I've recommended the game to many friends who have never played a first person game before, or if they tried were unable to deal with it. Portal does a great job through the first ten chambers of teaching you not just about the Portal gameplay mechanic, but how to move around an interact in a WASD/mouse- (or dual analog stick-) based first person space. And it has better writing than most games, and its very short. For a newcomer it really does a great job of training and then delivering on many of the best parts of a first person game (tension at getting shot at and dodging enemies (who conveniently don't move in this game, as they're all turrets), excitement at making crazy jumps, immersive valve style world-narrative, and beating the game and feeling badass!) over just a few hours. It's Valve centric but starting with Portal and then going to L4D (if zombies and horror movies are liked) would be a great one-two, as the next step would be really fun co-op.

Eyes across this game are weird. It looks like a different game exists in their eyeballs, which is composed entirely of reflected light. Oh well. The game looks great and is fun. Wish I didn't suck at all games, though.

I didn't play the first one but I bought this anyway, since people keep saying its good and I don't actually own any disc based games for my recently bought PS3. This being a PS3, It's installing a system update first, though. Update: the update is complete.

Pff yeah, don't get us started on that one guy.

I enjoy that I got that wrong. It means that I'm not totally full of inane dorky trivia. I'm also partly full of inaccurate inane dorky trivia. And yeah, LucasForums is cool. I did the design for that site ages ago (still usin' it!) and am an administrator there to this day. One time I paid my rent from an advertising revenue check from LFNetwork. That was, again, years ago, though.

Also there's no way Disney would put all of their characters in that film if they didn't produce it. The combination of Disney backing the film plus Spielberg producing (he had a good relationship with Warner Bros -- Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, etc) is the only reason it exists as it does. You'd never get a scene of actual Mickey Mouse and actual Bugs Bunny skydiving and giving a guy a spare tire instead of a parachute in anything else. Even though the animation was directed by someone non-standard at Disney, the actual animation work was done in-house at Disney Feature Animation, wasn't it? And yeah, anything produced through Touchstone is in part a Disney movie. It's not a Disney branded movie, but that's branding. The Walt Disney Company gets some profits from it, and often films made by people who have "a relationship with Disney" come out under that label. I don't think it's fair to tell oneself that something wasn't Disney just because one happens to not like Disney but also like a particular piece of work they financed.

Except that they produced it... Touchstone = a Disney label.

The game actually seems to be reasonably polarizing. From reading around, some people give it the ol' "meh," and for some people it clicks pretty strongly.

I may attempt to go on my own dime, but we'll see, schedule (and being bothered to actually get a ticket, hotel etc) permitting.

My awesome idea: Let's not argue the merits of having health insurance or not, or the bullshit US health care system in this thread! Take it to its own thread, or take it somewhere else. If you want to donate, do, if you don't, then don't.

I mention Stargoose basically to bait you into listening.

Quality! The map offered in day two cracked me up.

Haha, "rad" has rolled back around in some regions lately, probably originally ironically but it's stuck for a bit, it seems. I'm sure it will go away again reasonably quickly.

I think he's supposed to surface just before 10 minutes elapse. I proposed that and everyone just went along with it and thought it was a good idea, which was an enjoyable (and rare) experience. Thanks!

It's pretty awesome that someone sells the ability to produce magic in a can. You wish you had a mac. Mommy why are those unicorns fighting?

"Novelty" is probably too strong a word, especially since they're starting to become chains. Places like Powell's.
-
Cadbury's exists in the US but almost exclusively the Easter related candies (Creme Eggs and spinoffs, mostly). You can find some other Cadbury's candies here but they're almost exclusively in sort of novelty candy shops. Not in a supermarket checkout aisle or whatever.

Idle Thumbs helped me get my current job, and it takes up at least one night of otherwise free time every week. Over the last five years this site has introduced me to a ton of incredibly people, both online and in real life, some of whom have become very good friends. It's also provided an excellent venue for me to get random people I don't know to laugh at stupid made up words.

When is Steve Purcell gonna sign some more of those goddamn prints???
