Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server
Jake replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Hahaha no passive aggression in that post. -
I'd be a stupidly happy person if Minecraft supported the moon and the aether by default along with the nether. The world would be so much more weird and interesting feeling to me.

We're not doing anything at pax this year, sorry!

Maybe that was a shit idea. I didn't expect this server iteration to be around this long when I suggested that. Seemed ke a fun shirt term experiment, but we've had this server for a while now. Also I haven't even had time to play much lately so I wasn't able to contribute to this epoch the way I had intended. It bums me out. -
GDC 2011: The Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade: Games Kasavin

It looks like what's released is less finished than the one discussed at their panel. And the concept, even what's there, is pretty interesting, but you can see why they didn't finish it. -
Chahi sent them an infinite fax.

There's too many of 'em! "The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of" Ingredients: Co-op grappling-based wizard platforming, never-ending falling blocks, Peter Molyneux, Pyramid Head. Season to taste or until awakened screaming. All but two of these are real: Trine, Lumines, Dragon Age, Doom Resurrection, 1 vs. 100, Dungeon Keeper II, Milo: Dungeon Keeper III, Super Casts 'n' Blasts, Zool, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! -- A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, The Black Onyx, King's Bounty: The Legend

That huge pit was really fun to wander in, though. -
I don't really have a good sense of the game from that video, but the art content on display was off the charts. That super notable tear at the end of the first bit was surprising and great (and legally infringing!).

Thompson, Squid, and shammack, thanks for the help. This would have been an even more immeasurable pain in the ass without your cleverly archiving everything for us. The whole archive should now be back complete, hosted on our Amazon S3 site. Woo!

I don't have the songs in MP3 form, so if you can upload them somewhere (or if you already have) please let me know! That was Whitney Hills of Double Fine, who was supposed to be a guest but that episode was a lost one due to equipment failure of some sort. I think that was around the pinnacle of the Silent Hill noises.

I'd love to get the missing music, Squid. I have the missing episodes, but they're probably misnamed or linking incorrectly. Sorry for the huge delay in getting this stuff back online.
-
Thompson... weird question maybe, but why are half of these mysteriously now m4a files? I don't have the original MP3s of the Idle Music stuff and I think Chris's only copies are on a hard drive he pulled and put in the closet a while back... If anyone has the actual MP3 files we put out on the feed/site, I can restore them pretty quick at this point. Also, I think the whole episode archive is back up online now. I'm re-downloading fresh copies of the whole thing off the RSS feed to check, though.

Can you lay track over wool blocks? That would be an interesting way to do the coding when they're out in the wild. Might look ugly, might work -

I tried this out upstairs and I like the results. I thought Thompson's lighting up there was pretty awesome so I tried to build a very vertically-low, shallow train station to maintain as much of it as I could. If you guys hate it we can revert it. -

It's not necessary! I thought it was worth proposing briefly because this is (allegedly) a transitional server, and it would be something new to try. I'm fine with the dense madness too if it's what folks want. I'm less invested in this server than many others, so Im just proposing stuff I might like, but I have no super strong feelings beyond liking all the unique stuff people make. One thing that could be done is to send all train liens out of the back of the spawn. Dunno if that would be weird. It would fit aesthetically with the crazily organized spawn building though. -

Aesthetic request for this server, to consider: The look of the area around the spawn is really awesome. The way it's forested and the little bits of snow and desert around are some of the most aesthetically pleasing we've had near a spawn point. Beccause of that, what do you guys say to limiting development at the spawn, to keeping it pretty natural and undeveloped out to the edge of at least the default draw distance? Also, I think it would be cool if we built fewer overt roads leading out. We have ones going in the basic cardinal directions at this point, which is great. Beyond that, though, I think if we curtail overt development we can have a spawn point which promotes exploring out into the woods, which would be worth considering since there are no mobs this time. My favorite times in Minecraft are breaking off the trail, wandering through the woods or mountains, and coming across something amazing, and the geography of the current server is already naturally really supporting that, so actively promoting that seems worth considering. -
With that one, it worked, though.

One evening when slightly tipsy on the old server, I made a staircase inside one of the towers on the bridge to the Roman city, and then forgot about it until someone asked about it the next day. I felt pretty terrible about it, as I generally don't screw with other people's stuff in MC. -

I haven't been drunk Minecrafting lately, so it wasn't me. -
One puzzle, taking drink orders, was cut because it was deemed too hard. I don't know if that was really the case -- i didn't find it too hard personally -- but that's the decision reached after play testing. There was bigger narrative content cut out just before the episode went into production which i think hurt it more -- it was supposed to include Mack Salmon, but there was unease about including a hypothetical origin story for that character, so it was removed and Mr Spatula was the villain alone.

I want the mob equivalent of the biome system. Some kind of overarching super-biome where large swaths of the world will spawn mobs while other areas will be safe. That already looks like someone's painting of Minecraft. -

I don't? I'm horrible I guess. I don't reply to anybody. I'm pretty much the worst about it. Also, I have fans on twitter?!
