  3. I think you and Chris are saying the same thing. Chris was using "high fidelity" to mean "high res, crisp, expensively produced." That phrase came into popularity with high fidelity sound systems, which usually meant "you can hear a lot more than you would on a lower fidelity system." Your use of "high fidelity" to mean "cohesive and consistent" is confusing. But, you guys are both talking about everything being in service of the same tone being a good, key thing, so I think you're all on basically the same page.

Cutting or fully sidelining incomplete games from the IGF would remove most of the IGF. Film is an easier medium to deal with because it's linear has very regimented and defined technology required to view it, and has generally been understood forever. You can't just drop off a box of unspooled film to a festival, but you CAN submit a cut you know is rough, using footage and music you don't think would serve the film perfectly in a national theatrical release, but will more than do the job for a festival screening. To some those festival cuts are probably considered "unfinished," but the state that they're in is fully watchable and discernable, and allows those films to be screened by press and distributors. IGF games are sometimes far sloppier than whatever the gaming definition of a "rough cut" is, but with a game the definition of "unfinished" is probably just more nebulous than with a film. It's a slippery slope, I guess.
  7. Anyone Remember?

I'm pretty sure one time a grenade rolled down a hill in a video game and killed a guy. Any further details are lost to time. Actually, The Archville on Shacknews probably knows. That guy is actually an Idle Thumbs encyclopedia. It's slightly terrifying.
  8. GDC 2012

Big GDC announcements won't happen until Wednesday when the expo, keynotes, and main conference actually start. Monday and Tuesday are all summits and extended sessions/workshops.
  9. Broken forum icons

    This will be rectified soonish.
  10. I'd just prefer more Nick Breckon in general, regardless of who he or I happen to be.
  11. Fortunately you heard the exact same content you would have if you had two functioning earbuds. Think about that for a second.
  12. You guys weren't listening to the eighth channel, the breckonstream.
  13. You quoted me seconds before I fixed all my autocorrect typos! Owned.
  14. Guys, we will try the stereo thing when we get the equipment up and running again. That said, I make absolutely no guarantee that it will be the format in which we release the podcast. To a certain degree it comes down to personal preference, including ours! We'll at least do our homework though. Our current/previous setup mixed everything down at the board - we weren't sending multiple channels to the computer - which made stereo (and any complex level adjustments) impossible. Personally, I like that people aren't separated out to any degree into separate ears. The only time I listen to podcasts is on the drive to and from work (which I know is pretty prime podcast listening time for a lot of people), and in a car any noticeable stereo separation always always sounds weird to me. Anyway like I said: message received, we'll at least give it a look.
  15. We will paint one of the mics gold, for sure. We will call it "the good one."

I'm not a great cinematic director, unless it's for something bombastic and hilarious like Sam & Max. I like thinking about story structure and pacing and editing but I'm not a great director of actors and there are people everywhere with a better cinematographic eye than mine. My preference is to be behind the guy behind the guy behind the camera. Maybe the grass is greener but currently being in the midst of not doing doing UI/usability and more graphics-focused stuff, I miss it a lot.
  18. Hey hey! We edited together a teaser for Thirty Flights of Loving, the Blendo game you get by backing the campaign. It also covers the Thumb-exclusive mode, codenamed "itsbigblum." Check it out! F3BROWU1yBY

When the reward is early access to the primary product itself you expect to pay a little more because you're funding R&D as well as manufacturing, but when the rewards are tangential (eg Venus Patrol, some of the DF rewards, the Idle Thumbs stuff) your brain definitely switches more into "shopping" mode, even though the markups on those kind of tangential reward tiers are usually way higher than the primary product ones.
  20. Funding is currently at $91,907 and you know what we must do. Jesus
