Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server
Jake replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Multiplayer Networking
You can probably enable that for yourself on the server if you want... I think, at least. -
You could just as easily say the opposite. If you're so happy with your life why are you spending your time judging superficial aspects of the lives of those around you ("Ugh, that guy on the subway is reading THE HUNGER GAMES? Get a life dude!")?

Shitting shit. I forgot that my PC for some reason gets out of memory errors in Minecraft ALL THE TIME. (Java Virtual Machine out of memory crashes.) Is there a common cause/solution for this? -
The broken images will be rectified pretty soon with the full forum overhaul in the works. I'll check on the idle banter thread creation in just a minute. Thanks for the heads up!

This is now the official thread for progresscast 9 becaus I forgot to make one. Oops. Anyway how about that playtesting, or magic cards?

I'd be up for trying this, if people are into it being a thing we do. In Minecraft. -
That's fine.

This debate is part of what killed the server the first time. The worst part was when it devolved into a philosophical discussion between people who weren't even really actively playing. (That said, for what its worth, my preference is also a Survival server, but I know there are many for whom that is unappealing. I still wish there were somehow huge meta-biomes where parts of the map would spawn mobs and other parts wouldn't, so we could have a survival spawn and a creative spawn, which were linked by roads and transportation systems but by and large had their own gameplay properties.) -
Doug appearing in the game is my favorite thing. He's in it a lot, too. We had our whole crew figured out in the story and it was definitely a cheesy Ocean's 11-esque "I think we need one more" situation. "Maybe some guy who is kind of like Doug?" ... ... "Maybe it's just Doug?" ... "It's just Doug." "Let's go to Doug's Facebook page and send his photos to the concept art guys."

All. That said, we have way better spambot protection running now than we did when that rule was implemented years ago. We'll see how it goes in practice.

I absolutely hate being on video. I'm already enough of a fidgety weirdo in normal situations and having a camera stuck in my face is fully destructive of whatever natural looking tendencies I have left. Barf.

This forum has a long and storied history of weird emoticons. If you guys want any in particular added, let me know. Before anyone freaks out, it's worth saying that for how outrageous they are, they tend to be used pretty sparingly, which is good. You might also find folks around here aren't big on gigantic signatures or crazy fonts or colors in posts, as they tend to be distracting (which is why we instead let people have giant insane avatars, as those are all relegated off to the left side, away from the things folks are actually saying). That isn't something enforced through code, though -- we do technically ALLOW hideous fonts and sizes and all that stuff so that if someone really feels like bending a rule and going bananas for some specific reason is important, they are welcome to. Fortunately, most people just don't because they are cool.

Idle Thumbs Progresscast #8: This Time it's Public
Jake replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
The famed Lazuli Line! Fourth Epoch was my favorite of the servers by a lot I think. That's also the one which lasted the longest. It had a lot of the sense of implied/created history that comes with any virtual space, but it ended up living long enough to have a feeling of real history, too. The abandoned projects, peoples long-forgotten tiny cities way off in corners of the map. It was cool. My eventual plan with that lost subway station and sealed off cross-line transfer was to build out the sealed up tunnel filled with archives to make it way deeper, and eventually build that whole thing out as a fully explorable connecting line, but instead we re-rolled, which is fine too. Was the Fifth Epoch the one with the Congrats Nick Depot? That one had a lot going for it that I liked as well, but it was when I was running out of time to play MC so I never got to finish my Lord of the Rings Cross-Mountain Flaming Signal Tower Network Converted To Commuter Train that I was working on. Minecraft: Takes Too Much Time, Worth It. -

That was just a bad scaling job on the part of the realtime video mixer. Sorry about that!

Chris playing the theme and the wizard both brought back classic thumbs feelings for me in a big way, too.

We can only hope that they use this money to allow them to simultaneously chroma key in miniaturized versions of the staff from multiple sources instead of just one or two, that they can put badly airbrushed star glow effects over all footage, etc.
