  1. Anathem

The feeling of allowing yourself to be carried along by Stephenson, trusting that at some point your feet will hit the ground is one I relish. Reading both Anathem and Cryptonomicon put me in a place where my brain was in overdrive, accruing tons of information and stewing on new concepts, without the safety net of fully knowing why it was doing so. As things start to drastically shift, to shift again, and then to land, it's pretty exhilarating. I haven't brought myself to read the Baroque Cycle. I've read Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, Anathem, and Interface (one of the political thrillers he co-wrote), so I imagine I'll like it but I am wary of starting it for some reason. It feels like a lot to bite off, even though I'm basically sure it will be worth it.
  2. Well, Thumbs

Spoiler: It's the same width as the old forum. Peace out.
  3. Will look into this!
  4. Back to the Future

I don't know the answers to any of these questions It's insane that you were seeing PS3 prompts! I don't think we support anything but the 360 controller. Sam & Max Season 3 might have supported Logitech gamepads but I can't recall. Bummer to hear BTTF is crapping out on you on the gamepad front. That's very weird considering there was an Xbox port. (Or, I thought there was?) Subbes: Pretty sure both wireless and wired are officially supported on WD, but it's not really my department I only own wired controllers so that's all I've personally used.
  5. Back to the Future

This is probably lame, but I think BTTF recognizes only the wired 360 controller, and only on PC. Pretty much the opposite of cool, but it SHOULD work. I've played it on PC with a 360 gamepad, but it was in the dev tools...
  6. Ah, video games.

  7. I hope so. How about soiler tags? Good, good
  8. Is anything on the web final? The current thinking is that we want a separate sub-forum for each show, with a thread per episode, in part because of how some of the things on the non-forum part of the site will be hooking in. That said, we're definitely taking the attitude of "let's try things and see how they work, then adjust," and not "THIS IS THE WAY IT IS. WE HAVE SPOKEN." That tends to not work so well online. The Book forums are pretty speculative right now since there is no content, but it seemed like starting them the same way as our other podcasts, instead of making an exception out of the gate, before we've even released an episode, was the way to go for now.
  9. I havent tried the iOS app, but the mobile theme in Safari is nice.
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

I think the look of the film shown in this trailer is pretty fantastic. The quality of light across all of it is really nice. Roger Deakins!
  11. I'll add a max width thing in there. Your custom CSS is breaking the pop-up I think, as it looks right in FF/Chrome (to me at least). I know how to remove the gradient!
  12. We started from the lowest tiers but I think only the $10 and $30 have gone out.
  13. Same hardware. The old forum software was years old and not really maintained. I think the new software caches more aggressively and yes, it's definitely quicker.
  14. It probably comes from us setting the max size wrong before bringing them over, too. It was a thing I didn't intend to lose (the crazy huge avatars) but didn't catch it in time. I wonder if it's early enough in the forums life that we couldn't re-import those without blowing up the board. I don't know how risky that would be though.
  15. Mobile theme can be turned on via a button in the very bottom left of the page.
  16. We accidentally turned off the ability to switch back to the mobile theme. Will fix shortly. Many of the values (attachment and avatar limits, number of PMs, etc) are still at default. Spoiler tags need to be reformatted to use the old inline style. Angry tomato needs to be reinstated. Get rid of Bootstrap style gradient left over from the default theme. Need to look into deleting posts. Fix avatar sizes.
  17. The little button next to the New Content button -- the quick nav link -- is also great.
  18. I think that's just because the tag can't parse them. If we can get it to recognize, they should retroactively appear.
  19. That is probably helpful. I wasn't lying when I said we'll look! It's just not instant. Yes you can say that!
  20. Video games!
