  1. Cartoons!

I think the somewhat ugly art goes with the naturalistic dialog but I know what you mean. It all looks like it's drawn in someone's school binder.
  2. Cartoons!

Yeah the designs are off putting but it is fully animated which is a surprise at this point, and the timing and acting is great.
  3. Henry's design and how he moves is probably a little ways off from being talked about but I am looking forward to it! Player movement is getting better and better right now, and the animation work that pairs with that has me excited, but I don't think that it's at a point yet where the team wants to show it off.
  4. Mid 20th century they had a pretty solid run actually, between the forest service and national parks. https://www.google.com/search?q=old+forest+service+poster&client=safari&hl=en&biw=320&bih=460&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=-SdcU9rnOOjhyQHblYHADQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ https://www.google.com/search?q=old+national+park+posters&client=safari&hl=en&biw=320&bih=460&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=RihcU7O4CuLcyQG1yYCoDA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ (Also some bad stuff and some suspect war propaganda!)
  5. The Idle Thumbs Store

What's more likely is that the poster will go out of stock within minutes of being available as it's a very limited run, so don't get your hopes up / don't expect to bundle stuff with the poster. :\ THAT SAID there is no chance of the shirts going out of stock before then because the poster is being printed now or very soon, and we are restocking shirts as they sell out!
  6. Hipsters

I wanted to close this thread before it was cool. You guys seem to be enjoying (???) it... ?
  7. The Firewatch Typewriter

Olly liked the look of that typewriter and used it as one of the pieces of reference for the game model, and because of that we used it for the blog. Sorry that answer isn't very exciting.
  8. Idle Thumbs 153: Blondie, Freckles, and Glasses It is the future. Robots have rolled their way into our office, taken our faces for their own, bested us at our own mobile phone games and declared victory. Mankind's only recourse, its one hope, is to sit together with some microphones and discuss video games for two hours. Enjoy our latest podcast, robots. Things Discussed: Luftrausers, Monument Valley, Shadow of the Colossus, Broken Age, BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea Episodes 1 and 2, Doge 2048, Threes (Robot Edition) Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  9. You're thinking of "video games," I think.
  10. That is an alternate universe where he discovers Idle Thumbs instead of Penny Arcade and dismisses it out of hand for being full of us idiots.
  11. Cartoons!

Glad Avatar got some love in this thread. I am re-watching it since my girlfriend wanted some dorky light fare to watch while grading papers. Just now getting into Rick and Morty. The first episode is all I've watched but it was great. It feels like Futurama with way way sharper teeth.
  12. The code (and all future Brave Wave ads) was added because they were excited at the response to the first ad actually. So you helped a lot.
  13. tberton I hate to tell you this but you're surrounded by the writer of that email.
  14. The Idle Thumbs Store

(We hadn't considered them beyond a hilarious/best joke fwiw. Sorry if that is the worst )
  15. The Idle Thumbs Store

The reflection of your eyeball (?????) in the top left (????? what) is freaking me out. What. Chris now explains to me that it is semi-transparent plastic, not a reflection, and your eyeball is BENEATH the record. That calmed me down not one bit.
  16. The Idle Thumbs Store

And I'm really thin. And dancing with a cool robot. Seems fine.
  17. The Idle Thumbs Store

    Why not
  18. San Francisco Residents!

lol at Sonoma burn. Sonoma county still has more farmland in it that hasn't been converted to wineries. I don't know the point of visiting it as a tourist. It is the county that is where Tim Schafer grew up as well as me and most of the giant bomb staff. That's the opposite of a reason to visit it. And the parkside is not worth visiting unless you work by it! If you want weird/fun bars you can't get in another city go to Smugglers Cove or Bourbon and Branch or something, and not to one of the billion dives-with-okay-kitchens.* * Dear Mom is a dive with a delicious kitchen but it's still a very odd stop for a vacation.
  19. Based on box office numbers I think for most audience members, the avengers success was as you described: people saw the movie without seeing most of the other Marvel movies, devoid of any other context, other than cultural mind share of who the characters are, and that got them to go back and see the other movies after the fact. I had seen Iron Man 1 and 2 but saw Thor and Captain America afterwards (and liked them less than the avengers).
  20. I think Sean and I were saying different things whose meanings might both have lost something by being muddled together into one "let's untangle our thoughts" conversation. I'm just going to play through KR0 in the order released. I really didn't like the writing in Sword & Sworcery and KR0 felt very similar in its distanced/affected/earnest combination, which I find off putting more than enticing (a reaction which is out of my control; I can't make myself like something), but enough people are beating me over the head that maybe I can play it long enough to make it click. (for instance I was really put off by Jazzpunk because I was seeing it through a Blendo lens, but then people said "no it's like a Zucker bros movie" and it changed my whole read and appreciation of the game -- even though I don't think Zucker is 100% on either, it let me widen my read on what I was looking at.)
  21. Reducing our discussion to some sort of "come out and fucking say it" blanket rule is a little bit of a bummer to me. I like plenty of art that doesn't wear its intentions on its sleeve, but I think most games that try for that, as specific works, have been bad at it. In the specific case of Monument Valley, I wish it had said *less.* Am I returning stolen artifacts from these people? Am I an interloper? Am I helping them or helping myself? All vague questions that te game would have presented fine without any text coming up. That said, this thread's made me want to go and give KR0 another look. It will admittedly take some self-forcing. People told me "The Entertainment" was sublime and then compared it to Waiting for Godot straight-faced which is a fucking tall order so maybe my bar is just set too high?
  22. Okay cool so its safe to assume that because someone is Dutch they have reverence for the memories of the war, whereas if they're an American it's safe to assume what exactly? Cool generalizations. How about that argument is deleted from being valid, by nature of it being not actually provably applicable to any one specific person in the conversation, let alone on Earth. The discussion in the last couple episode threads has been stellar, but painting with a brush that wide isn't going to gain anyone a lot of ground. I thought one of Sean's points -- talking about what happens when you make a creative decision which turns out to be questionable once it's put under under scrutiny -- was valid, fertile ground for discussion. I don't think it made any accusatory assumptions about the kind of people the Vlambeer guys are, nor do I think it attempted to imply anything about their education or awareness. We specifically brought up the value/valuelessness of it being a Heroic American Game instead in the discussion. Also I feel like we spent a ton of time talking about the simple fact that it is a complicated issue to discuss. Thought this was interesting.
  23. Idle Thumbs 111: Cruisin' for a Word that Rhymes With Cruisin' Did we just experience the Citizen Kane of weeks? The rest of you may have. Chris gets into the early days of the Planetary Annihilation alpha, Sean sits next to a man you thought you knew, and Jake is frustrated that he can't walk into a store and buy The Last Of Us like the rest of America seemed to. Things Discussed: Planetary Annihilation, Disney Infinity, Pikmin 2, Citizen Kane Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
