I don't think the fuzziness is ENTIRELY the fault of SD video itself as a standard -- it's guaranteed to partly be the fault of very old film to video telecine transfer technology. A lot of film used to be transferred to tape basically by projecting it into a small screen that a video camera was pointed at (unideal!), and then copied from tape to tape after that (which is a very lossy process).Now film is transferred to video by being scanned in, the way you would scan a photo developed to a slide to run in National Geographic (aka an incredibly high quality-retaining process designed to preserve as much detail as possible). For instance before Twin Peaks was on Blu Ray it was re scanned and cleaned up on DVD and it already looked a million times better than it had in years but was still SD. The quality then went over the top with the HD release a few years later. So I think it's a few aspects at work.

Anything with an accented character seems to blow up at least the mobile site right now due to redirects. Strange.

This might sound strange but have you watched the shining a SECOND time? You might enjoy it more now that you've seen it once and your brain has had a chance to wash it off from all of those references. It won't be the same as watching it unblemished for the first time, but I think it will be the first time you can watch that movie on its own terms, knowing what it is instead of what you think it's going to be after years of cultural inundation. I'm not saying watch it twice back to back, but if it's been a while since that first viewing, it might be a worthwhile experiment. I suspect you'd enjoy it more than the first viewing.

It feels like it's definitely a reaction to (and also probably got picked up because of) Dallas and The Fugitive and that sort of thing, but I don't think that is necessarily corroborating evidence for the Japanese takeover thing. I don't think there is nothing to what you're saying, but I don't know if its as 1:1 as you're making it out to be.

I kind of wanted to just let it ride out and see what happened and was happier for it.

it'd be a tough thing to do when Kumail Nanjiani's X-Files Files is already out there and is one of the most popular podcasts of this style. But that shouldn't necearily stop anyone. (Probably other reasons would stop them, like agreeing to do a rewarch podcast for a 200 episode show! X-Files Files skips a number of eps, though I guess.)
