  1. story: there was smelly cheese in my car and I couldn't find it among the garbage. then I found it and threw it away.
  2. It seems like starting around the first DVD release, Lynch and Frost began trying to consolidate and reclaim the rights to the entirety of twin peaks (as the pilot, main series, and movies, and deleted scenes from them were all tangled in their own weird knots of mixed, different owners) and probably helped contribute to the rise in peaks nostalgia by doing the incremental releases (original DVD release, gold box set, online streaming, complete mystery Blu Ray) as more and more things were brought back into their control. It makes me think they've wanted to do more twin peaks for a while, but didn't see the point if Twin Peaks as a complete work was legally spread to the wind.
  3. The preorder video on GOG says new control type and the original tank controls (which are character relative). That is Schafer's preferred way to control the game so I don't see it being removed.
  4. I don't know how deliberate a long play it was but its pretty rad timing.
  5. Point and click is supported now. That's the big one. I suspect there is also less bad gamepad support since it's coming out for PlayStation.
  6. The tiny glimpse of the orchestral Grim theme in the GOG preorder video got me hyped up. That was all it took. That and the realtime shadows look really nice. It all feels very respectful.
  7. Oh man this is a Gordon episode? Good good. Excited now.
  8. It's up! Sorry, didn't update the thread.
  9. Idle Thumbs 190: A Very Spectrum HoloByte Christmas It is the season of giving gifts, unless you are Sean Vanaman, who only seems to receive gifs. Danielle and Chris get deeper into Dragon Age Inqusition, which mostly means Iron Bull talk. After that, it's time for a holiday mailbag trip through the digital back alleys of the competitive Smash scene, and a bleak realization about what 2015's really The Year Of. Games Discussed: Bernband, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Super Smash Bros., Project M, Tetris, Hexic, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  10. Only Dishonored Halloween takes place a week earlier than our earth Halloween. Other dishonored holidays are up for grabs I think.
  11. It was a little later than anticipated today, but the episode's now live! https://www.idlethumbs.net/twinpeaks/episodes/lauras-secret-diary/
  12. Yeah the X is because it's nice logo for v10.0 as it followed MacOS 9. Gif and gib are pronounced using the same G. Weird right.
  13. This thread is absolutely crazy. Crystal Skull is total garbage. Or at least the closest to garbage Spielberg can produce. On the surface Raiders and Crystal Skull are alike, but they are incredibly different in how they function on the micro level (as well as surface level things like pacing, editing, cinematography, and acting performance).
  14. In a world... where "gin" and "git" are real words... it doesn't matter how you pronounce the fake word "gif." It's pronounced "O S Ten," though.
  15. I've just always said it the way I say it on idle thumbs. Growing up I had no idea it was contentious. Somewhere in the mid-late 90s in high school I got a job at a web developer and someone snidely made fun of me for pronouncing it like "gin" because he pronounced it like "gift." It had never crossed my mind there was another way. Eventually I met people who called .wav files "wahhv files," like the "lav" in "lavalier," and who pronounced "warez" like "juarez," and who called MacOS X "oh ess ecks," so I just figured there were people out there who pronounced things totally incorrectly (and I was obviously not one of them since I said gif like "gin," the objectively indisputably right way).
  16. I think it's because the Kotaku editoral staff got tired of feeling like their job was to direct-paste press releases and promote prelaunch hype. I'm very glad that their focus has moved almost entirely to review day and afterwards -- most writing about any given game at this point is about what the games respective communities have done with the game, or what is happening to it now that it is available. I honestly don't read much gaming news at all at this point (other than RTS) but I find Kotaku way more palatable than I used to. Regardless of what you think of Kotaku collectively as a site, I suspect that when it comes to each individual person on staff, writing at Kotaku actually gives a person more freedom to work on outside projects than you'd get at, say, a huge entertainment conglomerate like CBSi. I wonder what corporate hoops Klepek had to jump through to clear doing that Lost Rewatch podcast he did for a while, for instance? I bet the number of hoops you have to jump through to launch a personal podcast side project as a Gawker staffer are zero.
  17. WoW was a seminal game, and that's hard to remember because at this point it feels like it's the generic template everything after it was traced from. It's approach to MMO design and all-levels accessibility was scary in how effective and new it felt at the time. I remember there was a GDC talk that year from the Everquest team I think, called "how to get a million subscribers to your MMO," because after months of struggling they finally achieved it, which was impressive.... Except between the announcement of that talk, and its presentation at GDC, WoW launched and eclipsed that number terrifyingly quickly.
  18. Amateur Game Making Night

Have you tried Unity 5? Does the new central shader and lighting work with the free one? The new unity lighting model is really pretty, and easy to use.
  19. It's way uglier than Mario Galaxy 1, though, so it is removed from contention. Also Cloud Suit Mario is a really questionable costume. Looks like he drives a white windowless cloud van. The ice skates are really really great, though, so it is probably the BGOAT. Though I have no evidence to confirm this, I think both Chris and I had plans on "Best Game Of All Time" turning into "BGOAT" and then turning it into "Ian BGOAT" during this Best Game conversation,m but then when we went to record, it never came up. This all may exist in my head, as we never discussed such a thing, but we had a very brief conversation that went something like: "The Game Of All Time... what's the acronym for that?" "T-Go-At?" "Oh the BEST Game of All Time" "TB GOAT?" "Best Game of All Time, what would that acronym be?" "....." "..." [glint in Chris' eye] "Lets save it for the cast." "Yeah lets save it. Don't want to burn cast" But I could be totally wrong here.
  20. It actually greased the wheels really well for the Best Game discussion in hindsight. (The night we did the Greatest/Best feature was the night we accidentally recorded the movie stuff, and I'd already forgotten that).
  21. Yeah, the farther into season 2 we get, the antsier I am to go and rewatch the movie.
  22. Ah weak. Sounds like that could have been solved with a little extra optional dialogue interspersed.
