  1. Wow, so listeners who confuse me and NIck might have always thought that I left and Nick stayed.
  2. Idle Thumbs 228: New Game Plus or Minus World If this description seems brief, if we're hard to get ahold of right now, the answer is very simple and not that inexplicable: We can't stop playing Super Mario Maker or Metal Gear Solid V. There's only one thing that will make us stop, and it's an opportunity to talk about them on this podcast. Games Discussed: Super Mario Maker, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Albino Lullaby, Great Houdini Escape Room Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes
  3. In this specific case nick did record a spoilers discussion and then we all felt it was almost literally a retread but with a few specific details so we left it out. Jokes on everyone, I guess.
  4. Idle Thumbs 227: Quiet The Clown Roughly 50 percent of this podcast is about Metal Gear Solid V, but we somehow manage to sneak in a tidbit here and there about our time with Satellite Reign and completing Lara Croft GO, Danielle's adventures with a real live clown, and a surprise-filled bag of candy for the video game baby. Games Discussed: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Satellite Reign, Lara Croft GO, Dropsy: A Point & Click Hugventure, Star Wars Armada, B KOOL Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes
  5. Idle Thumbs 226: "Console Wars and Hedge Dog" or "The New Far Cry 2" Get carried away on our balloon of delight as we dive into Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, a game that stirs up memories of something we loved dearly, long ago. Then, we'll let you in on the "Sad Space Dads" craze that has taken the gaming world by storm. If that isn't enough, stick with us for the time Chris and Nick chatted with Jeff Goldblum about Thomas Pynchon novels. Games Discussed: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Far Cry 2, Corpse of Discovery, Stasis, Super Mario Maker, Lara Croft: Go, Fallout Shelter, Sonic - The Hedge Dog Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes
  6. I was thinking about that as well. Where is the scene where someone drags the MGS camera man out from behind the fourth wall? I had not specifically thought about the cameraman being a pervy lakitu until now, to be clear, just the part about the MGS camera operator almost being a (shitty) character in and of itself. Pervy lakitu is next level.
  7. Sorry that was an iPhone autocorrect explosion. Nothing to worry about. I am Jacob Rodkin.
  8. The Lara Croft game, from my experience playing it at least, seems primarily concerned with you exploring the space and feekubg out how the puzzle of the room works and completing it, whereas Hitman Go was maybe more about gaining a holistic understanding of a level and then surgically exploiting it? Maybe it's something like this, for me? I was put off by Lara Croft Go for a while because I was trying to play it like Hitman Go, but once I started playing it like Monument Valley my enjoyment went way up.
  9. Idle Thumbs 225: Read Our Lips Read Our Lips: It's-a me. This week's episode may require you to use your imagination a little more than usual. Danielle plays the hell out of Super Mario Maker but as for her final verdict, you'll have to read between the lines. Chris and Spaff play the almost indescribable Pipedreamz and Flywrench, and Jake decides to record an entire episode with his microphone off. The only clarity you'll find comes from a surprisingly inspired Dota 2 add-on. Games Discussed: Super Mario Maker, Trine 3, Pipedreamz, Flywrench, Rick & Morty Announcer Pack for Dota 2 Inaudible: Jake Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes
  10. Idle Thumbs 224: Ms. Petman You are a mess, humanity. Your criminal investigators are a joke at best, and your justice system is terrifying and weird at worst. Your cyber security is easily bypassed, with commands that seem almost fictional. You cannot even assemble your own furniture. It's probably best we just take it from here. Games Discussed: Home Improvisation, Fingered, HackNet, Contradiction, Halo 2 Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes
  11. I don't think the robot uprising is the real threat, it's just the funny threat. The real threat is all this robotic military equipment making warfare and the eradication of "unwanted" people achievable, in a way that is absolutely terrifying to picture in ones mind, all without having to put a human face on any of it (joke: it is a robot that looks like a human but without a face). The scary thing is that people are building these devices, to then control them as they are deployed against other people.
  12. Idle Thumbs 209: Ten Percent Success Rate What did we all bring for show and tell this week? Danielle explores a psychedelic outdoor world and misses her favorite book, Chris re-visits his first encounter with Star Wars, while Spaff performs one of the most amazing feats ever attempted in gaming and finds himself $70 poorer as a result. Jake brings some gifs of animals stealing cars. Nine taxi drivers were injured in the creation of this podcast. Games Discussed: Infinite Jest, Gardenarium, The Magic Circle, Brawl, Star Wars: TIE Fighter, Grand Theft Auto V Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  13. The optimized Sonic game is to use Deviantart instead of Google Image Search. This is how I was taught, but may have just been house rules.
  14. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy This week we engage a randomly-rolled Steve "Hot Scoops" Gaynor for a series of increasingly-escalating heists and near escapes in The Swindle. Though he is cut down in his prime—side-swiped by a rainbow- and dollar bill-emitting enemy vehicle—it looks impressive as hell when the resulting accident scores a goal for his Rocket League team. Meanwhile, Danielle pines for every Rare game ever made ever. Games Discussed: The Swindle, Rocket League, Rare Replay, Angry Birds 2, Fallout Shelter Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  15. Woo I'm not TOTALLY crazy!
  16. Did SSX3 not have an "Elise wants to race you at XYZ location" SMS-style inbox interface? I feel like it did even if it wasn't a full playable cell phone.
  17. Is there actually a good game inside the literal feces you have to wade through?
  18. Idle Thumbs 221: Meet the Kerfluffles As the world closes in, you sit alone in a dark room, sweaty and tense, your eyes unwavering from the events unspooling on the monitor. Animatronic pizza creatures are clawing at the door. Shelter dwellers demand answers after months of forced breeding, papal collusion, and suspected assassinations. Fortunately the room's barricades are strong, so you can really concentrate on this Rocket League match. Games Discussed: Videoball, Rocket League, Five Nights at Freddy's 4, Fallout Shelter, Battlecruiser 3000AD Listen on the Episode Page Listen on Soundcloud Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  19. The singularity has chosen it's form and it is Vault Overseer Remo.
