HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREPSO!!!
-
Grim and Full Throttle are supremely replayable in the exact way a good movie in similar genres to those games is supremely rewatchable. Grim and Full Throttle just have the benefit of like 80x and 5x as much brilliant dialogue as an average movie, respectively. Replaying an adventure for the puzzles is silly. So how about that Fable eh?

How deceptive.

I missed this game at E3 (though apparnetly some people were paying attention who I've talked to since) but some of the promo art caught my eye on Majesco's site when I was looking for any sign of Psychonauts stuff. It reminds me of RTX, which is a little scary, but Advent Rising seems from the trailer to have actual variety and action, instead of RTX's monotonous exploring of repetitive hallways and unexciting fights. Also Advent Rising's story (and I guess some of the "overseeing" of the game) is by sci-fi author Orson Scott Card. Who knows if that means anything, but at least they're trying for a story. Also it's apparently the first game in a planned trilogy. All tentative positives in my book. So I finally checked out their in-game footage trailer, and I can't deny that I was impressed. I mean, it looks like they're trying for some engaging visual style and gameplay and stuff, but you really can't tell from a video. However, It's one of the few video clip shows I've seen that actually manages to look interesting and varied while staying entirely within the in-game "behind the player" camera. No cheap editing or development "flying camera" tricks were used to make it look more dramatic than it does when you're playing; it seems to manage it in-game. Anyway, I'll be keeping a very wary tentative eye on this one. I mean with stuff like this... it looks decently cool, but it could easily also be a turd (albeit, a bit like RTX, a very polished one). Official Site Download Videos I recommend the most current one at the top, as the one at the bottom seems to be pre-rendered and therefore a bit more deceptive.

Okay maybe so. I'm assuming its all about how companies with obscure names like "Cal Am Ag" or something that you've never heard of, or proctor and gamble who renamed themselves to some crazy more sneaky name, in fact somehow own 150% of the worlds food supply as well as the entire commercial production chain from raw materials to the stores and employees who sell you things, and buy off all govrenments and how more or less any crazy American law that sounds shady but is ignored by the media was lobbied for and pushed through by one of these secret behemoths? Also stuff about the WTO is covered? ¬ ¬ I just made all that up except the WTO but I went through a time where I was in airports and on airplanes a lot and liberal / anti-corporate propaganda books, especially the slightly more shocking and/or comedic ones make good airplane reads. I don't claim to know any of the actual facts in The Corporation, but all the details will probably end up leaving my brain anyway. Anyway maybe I'll see it.

I think The Corporation has come and gone from most theaters around here, as of about a month ago. A decent number of my friends saw it but I didn't... I suspect I know the gist of it though, and as I believe it already there's probably no need to pump me full of more anti-corporate-control-everything propaganda.

I too was sent 6 more in the last couple days... if anyone's interested.

No, I think a number of us are just too easily excitable. We don't feel obligated to include one 'fuck' per story or anything. We have some PG rated content ¬ Like that Eric Chahi interview. The Eric Chahi interview is the new Beyond Good and Evil - it will henceforth be the one thing we cite to prove that there can be goodness and variety in the world.

(for the record, laceyware got mine)

I hope that was intentional on your part.

http://www.classicarcadegaming.com/contests/Nov1982/ Collect all ten. It is funny how similar this is to now. Of course 70s/80s styled stuff is a bit in right now (for instance Ms Pac Man guy's jacket probably left for a while and came back), but on the whole those guys aren't much different from the nerds of now or ten years ago, or obviously, of their own time. Ringer tee guy and Defender shirt guy especially. What is it with blaring a logo of something you dorkishly love on your chest that appeals to the world of the nerds?

I've just been given an invite. PM me if you're interested.

To be honest my interest in this has nothing to do with Psychonauts, but it's pretty typical that this thread has drifted into that instead of the intended subject. There are only 8 billion other Psychonauts threads you know.

Trep you take me way too seriously.

I think Chris's assessment sums up whats going on better than Kingzoid's. Note I haven't said anything about how I'm interested in BloodRayn3 or how I think it's a good idea.

Saw this news on the shack a minute ago... Wooo, etc. Sounds like they're at least trying with the story. POP:SOT's story was simple, but well told considering the gameplay was entirely (good) jump puzzles and (frustrating) swording of people. I continue to excitedly await this game

Weather report makes the jump from 2D to 3D, aggrivates old ladies, Myst-lovers
Jake posted a topic in Video Gaming
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3572562.stm The change to 3D is really going to lose the expressiveness and, truly, the soul present in the 2D weather reports -- works of art, really -- that I grew up on. It is a sad day for the industry. Hopefully we'll get some 2D SNES-era indie retro-throwback weather reports from time to time from the more bold risk-taking weather stations. -
Yeah I agree, but I kind of like the look. I mean, it's not done that often in games, at least not in the sci-fi variety. Of course, sci fi movies with characters that look like that generally turn me off immediately ... that could be because the only sci fi film atm with characters like that is the new The Thunderbirds movie, but yeah. *shudder*
