I didn't like GoldenEye at the time and I still don't like to play it. I'm a little more tolerant of it now though. Back at the time I wondered why my friends (all of whom owned PCs) didn't just play multiplayer Quake or Q2 or whatever was out at the time. The inherent appeal of split screen on-the-couch multiplayer FPSing didn't really occur to me at the time. It's a different experience than playing online, or even LANning.
  2. All it took was typing "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones" into mobygames

That happened to me the other day. I was walking past two little girls on bikes and one of them fell over and started freaking out... I got there first and asked if she was okay but she started yelling at her sister, and then some dad-ish aged guy got out of a car and managed to be genuinely helpful. I felt like a jerk for failing to be helpful, but on the other hand I could tell that the girl was probably okay, and that if she wasn't I wouldn't be able to help

Here's the thing. The day it launches, I am guessing that for about $15 you will be able to make it look more or less like this: Meaning everyone can maybe just stop talking about it. The damn thing will be able to semi-indiscreetly disappear into your entertainment center shelf just like every other console ever, except the Gamecube, which needs a double-high shelf since it's toploading. Also I might as well add, all consoles ever - since the beginning of game consoles - are historically 100% ugly overdesigned hideous pieces of crap, across the board - especially the PS2 and Genesis/Megadrive which both look like terrible 80s BBC sci-fi villain spaceships which got in a horrible traffic accident with the futuristic electric guitars from the end of Bill & Ted. The original NES was somewhat calm, I guess, but it's the exception that proves the rule, maybe.

  12. A Conclusion

I personally don't mind Donnie Darko. I saw it semi-randomly without some fiendishly adoring friend nearby who was wed to the movie or something... I'd just heard it was worth checking out, so I checked it out. It was fun and a little weird and pretentious, but I wasn't offended by it. I have little tolerance though for people my age (24) or younger who now like to pretend they were somehow hipster counter-culture anti-Regan off kilter stretched sweater-wearing teenagers in the 80's like Donnie Darko and his sister when they were in fact like 7 years old or even not born yet. It's the film nostalgia version of claiming you liked a band before everyone else but you're actually lying and full of shit, or something. I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't think Donnie Darko did anything wrong... I mean, it's just a slightly cheezy sci-fi by someone who is obviously making their first feature film. The people that have taken it and run with it as if it's gods gift to the cinema, as something that that totally speaks to the nostaltic 80's hipster upbringing they mysteriously wish they had (why?) are the ones to blame. Also, I liked Mulholland Drive. It reminded me of Monkey Island 2.
  13. Looks like it can be a little overzealous with how it dispenses out cached pages, like, to the point that it will feed you someone elses forum PM inbox and that sort of thing, if the site you're using isn't configured quite right... http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1550469

    1) Build time machine 2) Convince nintendo to release controllers that aren't "so huge and garish"

Also, calling up Ford with the bacon is extremely helpful if you're ever stuck - Ford is basically the game's in-game hint system. He can tell you how to solve some puzzles, how to beat the boss you're fighting, and can tell you about basically every enemy you've encountered so far in the game.
  17. Penny Arcade

Except Penny Arcade changes size whenever they need it to... which you definitely can't do with a newspaper strip. I don't think PA went into webcomics with the goal of totally busting the mold of the comic strip format, so I don't hold it against them that they do most of their stuff as 3 or 4 panel short strips.
