  1. minecraft server new world?

In the interests of load testing, could I get people to play around on minecraft.dthosting.org for a bit and let me know if it feels slow/laggy or otherwise weird? I'm trying to see if I can get away with less than the 1GB of memory the server asks for. This is just a test instance, so don't get too involved in building anything, btw
  2. minecraft server new world?

In the interests of experimentation, I turned up a new server to play with tonight. I'm going to see what I can do about getting minecraft up and running and in the grip of daemontools to kick it if it crashes. I'll keep people posted.
  3. minecraft server new world?

Assuming it was the only thing running on a single-CPU VPS with 512MB of RAM, would that do the trick? If so, I can easily just crank up an instance at Linode alongside my backup node there (though probably at their east coast datacenter so it's more centrally located to US and EU people). Automating restarts of a crashy process isn't a big deal Though I would probably open up some sort of donation box to cover some of the costs ($20/month for the instance size I described above), if people would be interested in contributing.

Also, regarding keeping the server up, is the process dying or hanging? If it's dying, you might look into installing daemontools and using that to run the service. The big advantage is that it'll automatically restart as soon as the service terminates. If you're interested and want some help setting such a thing up, let me know. http://cr.yp.to/daemontools.html Also also, if people would be interested in chipping in a little cash, I'm up for turning up and managing a VPS instance to run the server on.
  5. Minecraft

Added minecraft.idlethumbs.net, but it's now waiting on Marek BM Bronstring to change the authoritative server for the domain over to me before it'll kick in. Feel free to keep trying and hoping in the meantime
  6. Minecraft

How intensive is the server app? If it's not too bad i can host it on the thumbs box.
  7. Minecraft

Once the DNS sorts itself out, you should be able to use minecraft.idlethumbs.com to access the server. Note, .com not .net, I haven't transitioned authoritative for .net to myself yet. I just did .com, so it may take a couple of hours to kick in.
  8. Minecraft

I got myself trapped in a lava pit that I can't get out of, and as much as I wish it would, the game won't let me die. This game is too deep
  9. Jeff Goldblum on Top Gear

...this week. And I believe at one point he refers to The Stig as "The Wizard". Thumbs.
  10. Neptune's Bountiful Pride 3

    I'm in if there's room.
  11. Jeff Goldblum on Top Gear

I was kind of hoping he'd roll that Kia
  12. Idle Thumbs panel at PAX Prime

The clear answer is to just hold the wizardmeet in the middle of whatever's in the Wolfman theatre at 3pm.
  13. Gizmodo seized by police

I might have felt bad for Jason Chen in this case if Giz hadn't posted that story profiling the engineer who lost the phone. Hey, way to ruin a guy's career for a few more clicks and then pretend you're practicing some sort of hard hitting journalism.
  14. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Graham used to work for Telltale, back in the time of Bone. Now he works for Laika Entertainment in Portland. He did storyboarding for Coraline, in fact I believe his current status is: Friend of the company.
  15. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

For what it's worth, that error usually means you're missing one of the directx updates microsoft sometimes quietly releases. They love to update directx all the time without actually changing its version number. Give this updater a shot: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en
  16. iPhone OS 4

I believe that was only unlocked phones, not jailbroken.
  17. iPhone OS 4

Jailbreak your iPhone! There's basically no reason not to, and there are amazing apps available once you have. For example: LockInfo. Adds most of the things you listed to the lockscreen. Upcoming calender items, 5 day weather, emails (which you can read and delete from the lockscreen), missed calls, texts, and potentially other stuff via plugins. Check out the screenshots here: http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/2009/11/02/lockinfo-feature-packed-lockscreen-mod/ For the record, jailbreaking is completely reversible and doesn't break any built-in functionality like the app store, music store, etc. If you use a Mac, you can get the wizard (you heard me) to jailbreak your phone from: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/376648600/pre-game-show
  18. Sam & Max 2010

Which is a shame, because the retail versions are usually way behind the Telltale DVDs in bonus content. Jake and I (and videodor Nick 'not Breckon' Herman) worked really hard to assemble as much awesome stuff as we could for those DVDs back in the day. The Season Two disc is still my favorite of all time (and the DVD Studio Pro content map still haunts my dreams to this day). But then when the retail editions come out, they tended to just pick a couple of things and throw them on the disc as WMVs.
  19. iSteam

I'm going to bet it dumps it all in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam like every other application does with its data. Comically overcomplicated though it may be, you could copy all of the data out, mount your other disk at ~/Library/Application Support/Steam, then copy everything back in. Then edit /etc/fstab to mount it automatically on boot and you've got your solution. Unix'd
  20. Blast from the past...cast.

Also, as I recall, written at 3am before the first night of E3, which should explain a lot.
  21. Yay for forum spam

Let me know if you keep getting these from now on. AG got hit by a similar spam attack awhile ago, and I applied the same fix here.
  22. Happy Birthday!

    Thanks
  23. PAX East

If you're going to go to an event by yourself, PAX is a great choice. Pretty much everyone is really nice from the staff to the attendees, and it's totally easy to find pickup groups for freeplay games. There's always someone nearby in the board game checkout library for example who's really excited to teach you their favorite game, and they'll just invite you to join their group. If you don't worry too much about not being there with anyone it's totally easy to have a good time.
  24. PAX East

    I'll be there.
