Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

What about doing a re-roll now with mobs disabled, then in a month or whenever 1.7 comes out, re-roll again and reconsider mobs then? (There's no way to make them only spawn belowground, sadly, but that would be nice) -

Would people rather re-roll now instead of waiting for 1.7? It means any new terrain generation stuff that comes in 1.7 like ravines won't be in the spawn area or the areas that're already explored. Personally, I'm not a fan of mobs. I'm not trying to roleplay this game or whatever, I jut want to build crazy stuff, and having creepers and stuff all over the place makes that way less pleasant. The third epoch was still my favorite, and I think a bit part of that was that people didn't have to worry about making sure there were fences and torches everywhere. You could actually use lighting for effect instead of having to evenly light everything to keep monsters out. Anyway, whatever. -

At long last, the final backups of the first and third epochs are available for download in one convenient place: http://www.idlemc.com/past-epochs/ They've all been converted to mcregion and should be ready to unzip and drop into your saves folder for some single-player fun. Remember, these were both before the era of mobs in multiplayer, so beware of monsters! Unfortunately, the second epoch was over so quickly there wasn't even time to take a backup before server issues took it. The fourth epoch is, obviously, still a work in progress! For now. (also, I hadn't realized 'til I looked at the timestamps on these that it had been 6 months since we last re-rolled. Hope 1.7 comes soon.) -

So it seems like with a few exceptions people are mostly bored of the server at this point... is there any interest in a re-roll? Possibly once 1.7 is out with the new underground ravine stuff (http://imgur.com/YNhtV)? -

The dynamic map should support night mode now. It has to render those tiles, so they may take some time to appear in non-central areas. -
I'm interested

New version of Essentials just helpfully overwrote my old config file. I think I've got it back how it was, but please let me know if you're seeing any weird permissions issues. -

Apparently 1.6 "fixes" putting torches on treetops -

I left it at 'balanced'. What I'm noticing is that individual chunks will sometimes take a few seconds to load, often very nearby. Like, I'll use /spawn, and there'll just be a 16x16 hole in the landscape that eventually pops into place after 5 seconds. I think Essentials originally implemented the nether by doing the same thing the client was, because the file structure was identical. What I thought was going ot break was the mapping between nether and client portals. Or who knows what else. Basically in the end the only work I had to do was to rename the existing nether directory ('nether') to the new one ('thumbs_nether') and it worked. -

Chunk loading seems markedly slower in this version, I've noticed. -

The biggest update to the map is that is now re-renders tiles onchunkload in addition to onblockcreate/destroy. That means as you move around the world it'll always be rendering a swath of tiles around you. Should help avoid weird islands of mapped area. -

Upgrading now... server will be down for a little bit. Edit: Okay, I think we're good to go. Let me know if you see any issues. I was able to copy the existing nether back over the one 1.6 generated, and it seems to be working fine. -

They have dev builds, but they're still actively committing bugfixes on the 2.3 branch. Essentials is deep enough to cause some harm if it's broken, which is why I'm waiting for them to tag a stable build. Edit: There we go, they've tagged 2.3.1 as stable. I'll update when I get home later tonight. -

Hmm... it protects signs, but they should have the same permissions as all other building. I'll check it out Edit: Try it now and see if it's working. the permissions nodes for essentialsprotect are not very clearly documented, I'm afraid. -

CB is updated, waiting on a stable build of Essentials (shouldn't be long, they were waiting on CB) -

I think the issue is chunk updating rather than chunk creation. The real question is, why is his renderer using so much CPU, which is what would be binding chunk updating (I assume)? -

1.6.5 is out, fixing some of the more unfortunate bugs from 1.6.0-1.6.4 The consensus seems to be that it's relatively stable now. Waiting for a CB update now so I can upgrade the server. -

1.6 is out today - Craftbukkit is updated, but they're warned that it's 'VERY experimental' so I'm going to hold off for a bit. As usual, please don't let your clients update until the server is ready or you won't be able to connect. Also, since 1.6 adds official Nether support, there's a *chance* we might lose the existing Nether content. I'm going to see if I can either preserve it or copy the current region files into the one the server generates once it's upgraded. I'll keep you posted when that happens. -

The daily maps aren't up to date anymore, the old ones are just there for archival purposes. There's now a live map at http://idlemc.com:8000 -

Yeah I'm not sad to see old boosters go. Powered track seems better to me anyway, even if it's slightly less fast. It's a more consistent experience, too. I wish you could set the speed of a piece of powered track though. Would be cool to do a minecart-based tour that could speed up between sections, then slow down when there's something to see. (Peoplemover style, for those who know what that is ) -
Works for me. Go delete any tags you don't want others to see you wrote (and if so, maybe think hard about whether you should have written them in the first place) and I'll re-enable visible usernames in a couple of days.
