  1. Nintendo 3DS

I'm liking the new games, but Wii Force is rough if you only get 1-2 street passes per day. I really wish you could save visitors up between visits to the gate.
  2. Other podcasts

Justin McElroy's new show Sawbones (which he co-hosts with his wife) is pretty good too: http://maximumfun.org/shows/sawbones Also, since we're talking maxfun shows, Jordan Jesse Go! and Stop Podcasting Yourself are two other great shows (both are a similar format, which is basically just 90 minutes of funny chat with a guest comedy person)
  3. Hey guys (and gals?), I'm new to these parts.

XCOM is quite cheap on Steam at the moment, for what it's worth
  4. I notice Far Cry 2 got left out of the list of Games Discussed ¬¬
  5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I just picked up the game yesterday. My code is: 0001-3523-5853 Swing by and check out Dougtown if you like.
  6. Sam & Max Hit the Road's attractions are real?

Gumbo is more specific to Louisiana.
  7. Sam & Max Hit the Road's attractions are real?

In the style of the Oregon Vortex, but more convenient to San Francisco if you find yourself out here: http://www.mysteryspot.com/
  8. If it helps, that was basically my first experience too, and I was playing with friends. (I haven't really loaded it up since)
  9. I didn't think to take a photo, but an item made last night that was delicious was a polenta and sausage casserole: - Simmer together some sliced red onion, red bell pepper, and sliced mushrooms 'til they're nice and soft. - Add garlic, fresh thyme, and bulk italian sausage (break up the sausage with the spoon) - Also add some diced tomatoes (I used canned because it's what I had around, but fresh would be nice) - Simmer it down until it's nice and thick - In the meantime, make some polenta (about .5 cups of cornmeal, plus the appropriate amount of water/milk (at a 50/50 ratio) to get a spreadable polenta - I think it was about 5-6 cups total) - When the polenta is about done, add a little butter and some shredded cheese (I used smoked fontina) - Spread the polenta in a baking dish, and then spread the sausage mixture over it - Sprinkle some grated cheese (I used Asiago) over the top - Bake 'til it's bubbling and the cheese is nice and melted
  10. Clearly you never enjoyed that audio driver for the pc speaker.
  11. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I'm willing to bet the PS4 has a bit somewhere in the OS that toggles very similar features, and had they announced after Microsoft, that bit would have been on instead of off. Weirdly, the first thing that came to mind today with the Xbox announcement was Netflix's Qwikster announcement, where they announced the split, and also other features like game rentals. Then, when they had to reverse the split, they took back all the other stuff too.
  12. Nintendo 3DS

In several months of carrying a 3DS around San Francisco, the only streetpass I ever got was from passing Ryan Davis on the freeway on my way to work
  13. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Fixed in the latest dev release: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=244090
  14. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

If it helps, shift-refresh usually fixes things for a bit.
  15. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Do you use the Chrome dev channel by any chance? I've been having that problem on a bunch of sites lately with the current build.
  16. Unity

If you're working on a game with multiple people, Git, Hg, etc. almost certainly won't work well for your project. With the exception of the scripts, everything is a binary, which doesn't play nice with a shared-checkout system. The free version of Perforce is probably a better starting place for games since it provides exclusive checkouts of specific files. If it's just you, though, Git is awesome.
  17. Unity

That book's probably pretty good if you're new-ish to programming. I actually ended up skipping several sections that were pretty basic (like looks and conditionals). Worth noting that Unity actually supports three programming languages: C#, Javascript (kind of), and Boo. I don't know anything about Boo, except that it looks a little like Python. The flavor of Javascript was just different enough from regular Javascript that I found it frustrating, so I personally prefer C#, since it is at least just plain old C#.
  18. Unity

The few times I've played with Unity, I've loved working with it (as a programmer at least). Chris originally pointed me at this book, which I found to be pretty well written (It's about Unity 3, but is probably still pretty relevant to 4 for beginners): http://www.amazon.com/Unity-Development-Example-Beginners-ebook/dp/B005OYJUIU?tag=idlthu-20 This guy also has a podcast/Youtube channel with some Unity tutorials that are pretty helpful: (Learned about Random.insideUnitSphere from that, which is tons of fun )
  19. Good contribution, thanks.

There's an extreme Grickle hand in one shot of the father that makes me laugh every time.
  22. Backendy server changes

Sorry for the minute or two of unplanned downtime there. I've made some large-ish changes to the http stack for the site. It should be totally transparent, but please let me know if you're seeing any weirdness, especially in the forums.
  23. Backendy server changes

More updates, this time to the framework that everything except the forums runs on. Let me know if anything seems to be not working.
  24. Kerbal Space Program

Ohhh, that's what those are for. Also: I've avoided the wobbles with struts. They break away automatically as stages separate, so they're pretty effective at controlling wobble even in an asparagus staging setup. I put one between each of the outer tanks, top and bottom, and usually one angled brace from the top of the outer tanks to the next stage up.
