ep, sure enough. Starting 12/25 we started getting a bunch of referrals from playblink.com, with landing pages inside this thread. The good news is, total referrals from there seem to have already peaked, so hopefully we can look forward the weirdness dying down: http://i.imgur.com/S3P5meG.png (Data from 12/28 is partial, obviously, because it's today) Unfortunately, the forum being hidden doesn't prevent people directly linking into the thread. I created a new thread and merged this one into it, then deleted my post from the old thread. That should force the thread to a new url, and show a 404 for the old one. Hopefully that also shuts them down a little.

How would people feel about this thread moving to multiplayer networking, which you have to be logged in to see?

If anyone's getting PMs from users who aren't posting, please PM me the usernames so I can block them (and maybe see if they come from a common IP block)

Banned the offending user. Let me know if you see other users popping up causing trouble.

Okay, pigmen are cleared from the portal (by dying many times to lure them into a fenced area on this side of the portal and then murdering them). A ghast appeared, though, so beware. I started reinforcing the nether side of the portal with obsidian to make sure there'd always be a safe arrival zone. I also installed a gate. -
Good news! http://www.residualvm.org is what you're after. It'll let you load up and play Grim's data files on pretty much any OS you like.

Bad news, there're at least 3 of them in there now. Can't even exit the portal without being immediately killed. -

I built a pasture outside the east wall and (roughly) monster-proofed it. I moved the sheep up there, but don't have the energy to move the cows or chickens yet. It's depressingly tedious moving animals around. -
Hmm, okay, well, so far I've been gunned down before I can land every single time. So, probably a cool multiplayer thing if you can actually get on the ground.

So we played for about 4 hours at the office last night on a shared server. It's definitely a little beta-ey, but there was some really good stuff. Our first plan, Minecraft-style, was to dig a hole for shelter. Which worked okay, but then one of us went exploring to the east and found a top secret research facility guarded by monkey guards. Basically this, but it's not my screenshot. So we seized it and made it our new home. Only trouble is, you can't change your beam-down location as far as I can tell, so it's a little bit of a hike. But still, pretty great.

Alright, just bought the game. Looking forward to trying out the mod tonight.

Oh hey Chris.

* Google doesn't actually own 23andme, but they did invest some money and Sergey Brin's wife is one of the cofounders

GameMaker Studio is also Windows-only, by the way. Only the older versions work on OSX.

I expanded the storeroom a bit, since it was getting pretty crowded in some of the chests. Also, it connects up to the stairwell down the the mines by the wizard tower now. Feel free to reorganize, it's a little haphazard right now, but at least there's more room. -

I thought zombie pigmen was neutral until attacked. Also, I'd like to chip in some cash too. Let's make this happen -
Yeah they said in the FAQ that the prototypes wouldn't have the screens.

So I built an incinerator room under the general storeroom. Then I decided to beef up the (Geordi La) Forge a little, which kind of rendered the incinerator room useless. Soooo, double incinerators! Also, since we're playing vanilla, please avoid placing flammable blocks in either room. They're both tall and underground enough to be safe for fire, but sticking some wood in the room might be a problem (fire can spread 4 blocks upward). -
It's a good gateway. The game definitely gets more ridiculous, as you start ruining countries and creating new cities and stuff, but initially it's pretty close to vanilla Risk.

Ah, sorry, scummvm and its cousin residualvm are virtual machines for the old lucas game engines. They'll let you play the games on modern systems (or OSs for which the games were never released). Residual is for Grim Fandango, and ScummVM is for any other old lucasarts adventure. ResidualVM is very closely related to ScummVM, but it implements the 3d engine used by Grim Fandango rather than the old 2D engine the rest were built in. They don't provide you copies of the games, they just let you play them. Also, here's the intro to Full Throttle if you want an idea of the aesthetic:
-
Define 'less refined'. What are you not a fan of? That might be useful info Full Throttle is pretty great and still looks super nice despite the low resolution. And it has voice and music, if you're into those Grim Fandango is great too, but the controls are pretty weird. Neither is especially wacky (at least not to a bears-in-offices degree). You'll also want to investigate http://www.scummvm.org/downloads/ for playing older lucas games, or http://www.residualvm.org/downloads/ for Grim Fandango.

I think the time we played it was a couple of hours. But there was a lot of distraction in there. Also, what do you mean by accessible? If you mean to new players, then it's pretty simple, especially if you've played standard Risk before. It deviates from that more as you go on, but at the start it's pretty standard.

Good news guys, I'm in the beta. Oh, sorry, I mean I'm in a beta. Not the Steam one, though.
