  1. Fyi, I did not buy the JetBlue thing, but I really wish I had. And I would totally have used it to go to Disneyland.
  2. Idle Santa 2014

    Cool, thanks for organizing! PM'd!
  3. That's not entirely true. I heavily favor certain airlines, even if others are cheaper (to a point). For example, I'll pretty much always fly Virgin America if they cover the route I need (horrible safety video notwithstanding), even though Southwest is usually cheaper (though I don't mind Southwest as much as other people).

I don't have a photo because I'm at work and also I already ate it all, but I made this last night, cobbled together out of stuff on hand and stuff that could be had from the trader joes I was already standing in. It's not an especially accurate recipe and I don't know what to call it. I served it over some polenta. - 1 onion, diced - lots of cloves of garlic, peeled and smashed a bit to break them open (I used a whole head because you only live once) - 5-6 hot italian sausage links, cases removed - 1 can of diced tomatoes (I used the roasted ones) - half a cup of chicken stock - 1 lb of braising-friendly greens (Trader joes' southern greens mix in this case, which is mustard greens, collards, turnip greens, and spinach) Sautee the onion in olive oil until it's nice and soft. Add the garlic cloves and the sausage. Break up the sausage into chunks (big chunks are fine). Let the sausage brown a bit. Add everything else, bring to a boil, and then let it simmer, covered, for about 30 minutes. Then uncover and keep simmering 'til most of the water is gone and it's kind of saucy. Hit it with some pepper and mayyyybe salt (I didn't need to add any, given the other salty ingredients).
  5. I believe it's also 'father' in Dutch.Edit: yep

  7. This is probably the time to advertise the most critical of all Chrome extensions again: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/its-video-games/bpljcfihdpogcmgmpboahejajkffhnfo?hl=en
  8. I've never seen the show, so this is probably as good a time as any to watch it.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Nah she probably faked that murder.

  12. San Francisco Residents!

If you can manage an overnight side trip, Yosemite is well worth it. It's about 4 hours each way, so it's a rough day trip unless you realllly like driving (admittedly, a lot of it is a pretty nice drive). Lake Tahoe can be nice too, but it's also proabbly not a day trip (and depending on the snow situation may be a very long and/or require chains (but probably not in April, the way weather's been going in California)) I wouldn't bother with Sacramento... nothing against it, it's a nice town, but it's not worth road-tripping to see specifically.
  13. Ello.co

Before anyone goes crying about VCs, it's worth noting that the amount they raised was something on the order of $400,000, which is astonishingly little by venture funding standards. And I'd be really curious to see how people think they'd be able to afford any infrastructure in the first place without some sort of funding. Servers, power, and especially networking aren't free, even if you have staff doing the initial work pro bono.
  14. Rocksmith

I'm curious to see how it goes for you, since I did almost exactly the same thing. I actually found it problematic right off the bat and had to fall back to some other online tutorials, and haven't really been back to it since.
  15. Disneyland/Disney World

Of the three, the Grand Californian is the only one I'd bother paying for, but even then it's not realllly worth it except to try it out once. Ultimately, it's a pretty normal hotel room (though they do have pretty cushy mattresses). If you can, try to get a room away from the pool, because it can be loud on that side of the hotel.

Yeah that's horrible. I don't do that. A sprinkle of cheese and some onions and maybe some kidney beans. That's where it's at. We're talking something like this, except I like more onions:

I'm making Cincinnati chili tonight just to spite you all.
  18. We were legitimately ready for a giant influx of jerks, to the point that I had extra mods watching out and everything. I'm really happy we had to do zero moderating. As a side benefit of that preparation, though, the forums now check a bunch of RBLs when you register, so you can't register via tor or a bunch of other known open http proxies. Edit: Oops Mike already said that. That'll teach me to read the rest of the thread before replying
  19. Hah... my dad was that, and my mom was the opposite. Then, when I was working there, he had no choice but to come visit, and ended up really enjoying it
  20. Idle Food - Cooking!

Disagree, sir! I make it occasionally and it's delicious. I really like cooks illustrated's recipe (sadly paywalled).
  21. It's on my list of things to do. I hate venturing into fisherman's wharf though :/
  22. There's only one possible solution here, which is that Danielle's going to need to use the Rhode Island accent at all times.
  23. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Hmm, weird. I applied a security update last night that seems to have caused it. I'll take a look later tonight. Looks like the template cache just needed a courtesy flush.
  24. Other podcasts

The Bugle is coming back in two weeks, which I'm pretty excited about.
  25. Nintendo 3DS

Hmm, I think I was platinum during that time, but I almost definitely opted out of emails.
