Yeah, it's a quibble over semantics mostly because people will use the "what he IS" line of thought as a way of undermining what he did. I definitely think TB is being transphobic and that's all I care about. I do not give a shit if he's not really like that inside or whatever. He's a shitlord about so many things, it is exhausting.

First off, it's trans woman and a transgender person. No one is "a transgender" (just like you wouldn't say "a gay") and no one "flings that at anyone at the first possible opportunity." Total Biscuit is flogging a contrary opinion on the subject because he can, but this isn't a "ALL OR NOTHING" thing either. If you say something transphobic, then it is saying something transphobic. Don't make it this "well what is deep in his essential character" because that's not really what this is about. If you do or say transphobic things, you're being transphobic. TotalBiscuit (for whatever reason) is supporting the idea that it is rape if a trans woman "doesn't disclose" that she's a man (which SHES NOT), and guess what, that's a fundamental idea behind trans panic laws (A person has the right to "defend themselves" against a trans person due to it being "deceptive.")

Aww, thanks guys! I'll post a link once its up on Tuesday. The support you guys have given to the show as of late has really helped us out - my podcasting partner doesn't post here but I relay to her all the nice things that people say. It helps when we both feel kinda beat up about stuff. We try our level best to really do a lot of good content, but present it in a professional way, and have fun. Podcasting has been a huge learning experience but we feel very strongly about it as a medium for marginalized voices and gaming analysis. (Also fangirl!squee excited to talk to Danielle and Patricia, I've been fans of theirs for years. ._. Danielle is the reason I finally started listening to Idle Thumbs in the first place, hence why I started posting on the forums.)

Thank you! We definitely try hard to get a lot of different voices in there.

I live 1000 miles from my parents. I miss my dad a lot but I contact my mom more otherwise she'd complain at me. Both my stepparents were alternately annoying and abusive so frankly, I am not close to anyone in my family and I barely even talk to my sister.

Just a heads up Thumbs, Danielle (and Patricia Hernandez!) are going to be next week's Justice Points. Listen to it on Tuesday when it comes out.

AoC laws, including possession of materials by the image holders THEMSELVES, are extremely up in the air regarding digital content in the US. There's been several cases I believe where teens consemtually gave their pictures to other teens and both teens were brought up in underage pornography charges. It really depends on the state.

Twig, I love you so much right now

Seriously, I am dying over here.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 22: Double Play
Apple Cider replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
My interpretation of Leo's capacity is that he's effectively got damaged verbalizing and limited physical movement but that his thoughts and personality are effectively untouched or in some ways, perhaps amplified? Leo was always a really malicious, abusive person and what's hindering him is just his lack of physical control or ability to speak on a more comprehensive level. His lack of control over his life, his situation and more importantly, his wife, has definitely made his desire to escalate the abuse or just outright kill Shelley go up quite a bit. Some of the earlier episodes where we get the hint that maybe he's plotting and faking some of his lack of cognizance makes me feel that he's been hatching a scheme for a while. -
I thought this might be of interest to some people here, warning tiny bit NSFW since it has a model in tasteful bra and panties/sports bra: http://workthatmatters.blogspot.com/2014/01/now-this-is-bold-lingerie-ad.html?spref=tw TLDR: Bra company from Canada finds out one of their models has rare form of ovarian cancer and is undergoing treatment, keeps her for modelling and doesn't airbrush her or anything. It's a story from 2014 but it still made me smile anyways. (Plus check out the lingerie site's BRA SIZE MATRIX.)

I don't know how anyone can dedicate their lives to keeping up with GG. At all. I also don't think it's necessary to poke the bear either.

One of my favorite recipes for chicken breast is to cut up and soak the pieces of chicken in a bowl with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, spices (or just dump a bottle of vinaigrette if you don't have those ingredients) for a day in the fridge, splash some tomatoes with similar mixture and then sautee the chicken slices in a pan until they are cooked through, then dump the fresh tomatoes, cooked chicken on onions, lettuce, olives, whatever cheese, croutons, and then dress with same concoction. It's a great warm/cold salad perfect for summer.

The overtones of rape throughout anything from AVFM is why everyone thinks MRAs are all rapists. That all being said, I find it unsurprising that men who make so many "get back in the kitchen" jokes are unable to cook a fucking chicken breast properly.

Because it's a hive mind that doesn't see TB as sinister so much as righteous. They know exactly what's going on and the people at the top are flogging it for all its worth.
-
That's so cool and thoughtful whereas here in the US where it's huge and sprawling and there's absolutely food deserts.

I really don't understand people who wear their shoes indoors.

Yeah, I'd really love a car for grocery shopping. As it is, my boyfriend carpools with his mom but since I work all day, it means I have relatively little input on what actually gets bought from time to time and I'd love to be able to shop on my own time without also finagling with the bus.
-
I didn't get my license until I was 23, I still have never owned a car. It's part of living in cities or otherwise being too poor to afford a car. How are you supposed to buy and own a car if you've never had more than a couple grand in the bank (or less) at any one time? I suppose I could probably get a car now but I'm still so scared of all my money being taken away that I'd rather not in case I magically lost my job.

The Corny AMV/VGMV Thread to Ruin Everything

THI(S IS THE BEST ONE EVER Okay, I have no idea how to embed Youtubes, this is really horrible. -
In that way it's a bit relevant in an accidental way that women tend to suffer the brunt of men being unable to figure themselves out. However, I'm kinda tired of stories like this in general, as someone who tends to want to read things that don't remind me of how shitty real life can be at times.
-
But that's not the point he made, it's that literally inserting politics at all is regressive. There's politics in every single piece of media. Thor was written badly but Politics as a concrete entity is the same as a scene done well.
-
The method of throwing Barbs under the bus would be way less of a sting to me if it weren't a fucking trope in comics and other media at this point - a woman has to be brutalized in some way for all the "good things" in the narrative to come later. Sure, we got something beneficial out of it, but it was all the choice of the writers. I'm tired of women being hurt and raped and maimed in story in order to make them better in some way.

Yeah, that's basically the quote I was referencing. I don't think it's Alan Moore's fault so much that DC pretty much let him have free rein and he felt bad about it later.
