yeah, I'd like to make it fun - maybe a mix of goofy/nerdy stuff with more female-lead driven stories or things with themes we can pick apart or argue about.
-
Well we can experimentally try one movie and keep it to this thread perhaps? and then if it works out, we can make a new thread for it.
-
Yeah, it spoils what turns out to be the "big secret" of the movie but it's not a twist by any sort. Does Idle Thumbs have a movie watch club? I'd love to talk movies and feminism with peeps.

True story, an hour after my court hearing to get a restraining order against my stalker, he was back hounding me on Twitter an hour later. Restraining orders are horribly outdated against internet harassment too, unfortunately.
-
I really didn't like reading that article because Eron pretty much reminds me of the same behavior that compelled my stalker. These men feel entitled to their behavior because they feel that the woman in question has earned that punishment for some combination of real or imagined slights that are so far below what the reaction actually is. There's no doubt in my mind that Eron has no concern for Zoe and definitely premeditated to cause her life to be ruined. He wanted to cause as much problems for her as possible. The fact that he can flout a gag order and a restraining order is really criminal.

I actually went to go see It Follows with Gita when I visited Chicago, she's fucking RAD. Go read all of her work.

I wonder if there'd be a way to somehow create a hashtag campaign that's just for signal boosting people's various crowdfunding or projects so it can aggregate getting money into their hands.

Chloe literally has better dialogue. Max's consistent internal monologue is really excessive and unnecessary, but overall Chloe has way more character. The voice acting isn't as much an impact.

Temp-to-hire, and I was here a year before they hired me.

Idle Thumbs 207: Buble Bloodborne Bloodbeef
Apple Cider replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I actually wrote a reader mail about Splatoon so I'll abbreviate and say the bafflement was also weird! I thought this was getting a lot of hype but I realized that maybe I am the person directly being marketed to with a casual single/multiplayer team-based 3rd person shooter that's got a fashion shop and cute squid girls. -
Could it possibly be an erasure of potentially BOTH kinds of story because straight writers lack the understanding or nuance that makes this hard to slice? Because Bobby HAS had relationships with women and we have NO way of knowing if they were "failed" in the way a gay man would experience or if they were actually relationships he enjoyed and that he'd also like to be with men too? Is this a way of approaching this without dragging you into why you're being incredibly condescending to me? Because I think you're asserting a lot of stuff that I never said, like how THIS is ONLY bisexual erasure, only that this FEELS like it from my perspective as a bisexual person but I am seriously having a hard time remaining 100% calm about the whole line of discussion how it's a profound privilege to engage in "opposite sex" relationships when you're really lacking a concrete understanding how me also being a woman impacts that. So I'll leave that be.

Yep, same loc, same position, nothing changing other than being a Real Employee. I had benefits through my temp agency, oddly but we only got them a couple of months ago. I also got a 401 K and I should probably look into what that is.
-
"Privilege" to "pass" as straight as a bisexual person is just another arm of heteronormativity, FYI. It's not a privilege to be mistaken as straight, it's just a very different part of living in a straight world that bisexual people have to deal with that is different from how gay people have to navigate the world. Please do not say that people "reading" me as a straight woman because I mention a boyfriend or have dated men or had sex with them is a privilege especially due to how misogyny intersects with this.

Pros: Got offered and accepted permanent position at my job (bump to higher pay salary, benefits, PTO/sick/vacation) Cons: Been getting put through ringer on Twitter because I have contrary opinions
-
The problem is that telepaths are fictional (at least in this case or something) and bisexual erasure, being outed or generally given the "you're GAY" treatment when men expose even the tiniest bit of interest in men are REAL things.

It's terrible and it's technically not feasible unless you actually stitch out a cup of material. These artists have a ton of resources and access to anatomy studies and clothing studies and they choose to ignore them once boobs become involved.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 26: On The Wings Of Love
Apple Cider replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
Jake, Ontkean was in SLAP SHOT, not Snapshot. Gosh! (I've seen Slapshot, somehow. Before Twin Peaks, oddly.) -
everyone is so cute!

Or he could not love her because she's a fucking smug-ass shit straight girl ally. If she asks him to go shopping with her, I am going to throw shit.
-
On the serious note: yeah, this feels like someone writing this stuff with NO experience whatsoever of what experiences like this are. I would be beyond upset if a psychic outed me or even just read my sexy thoughts and then made a judgement about my sexuality, especially because a lot of teens have confusing thoughts about sex and sexuality ALL the time. What we decide that means is ultimately our business, too. The idea of "full" or "half gay" is also really upsetting because it's like, uh, no, I'm not half a cheeseburger, I'm a bacon burger. I'm an entirely different thing, and no, not everyone is a little bisexual because if they WERE, maybe we'd not have this invisibility bullshit!
-
I'm only half gay but I definitely deal with full gay consequences

Idle Thumbs 206: Owen Wilson's Nose
Apple Cider replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I am wondering if I should submit this as a reader email but probably it's just best to re-hash the topic from my own perspective here but doing a podcast (as people who have read what I've written in the Other Podcasts thread in main) has been easily one of the most liberating things I've done in my career as a media creator/critic. Having a space that is completely dedicated to expressing my opinions with only very minimal pushback (from an unruly guest or comment section) with often only other women or marginalized people really makes you feel a ton better and makes you realize how important and valid those conversations are. Granted, some of my podcast "persona" is more "on" than I am myself in private but most of what people hear us talk about on Justice Points is really just us, hashing out our feelings about things like sexism or being feminists in gaming spaces. Podcasting, by the nature of its format, really makes it a thorny thing to try and just passively attack because it requires so much more energy to sift through. That being said, I wish more podcasts DID feature marginalized people because so much of it is still just white dudes due to learning curve and tech costs required. I would also love if more podcasts transcribed their audio for the purposes of low bandwidth listeners or listeners who are HoH/d/Deaf. All in all, I really couldn't ask for a better, more fulfilling thing as a feminist gamer than to get to routinely talk to cool women who work in and around games to give me their honest opinion about gaming, their work, and their thoughts in general. Having someone like Danielle and her GF Patricia on the show to talk about serious but also funny stuff in gaming is really enriching and I'm amazed I get to do it every week. -
Oh boy, I am going to stay out of this because Benjanun is actually a long-time friend of mine.

Developing a thicker skin came as a side effect but I would have liked to have the years of my life back that got stolen by some of the harder things I've had to live through. Sorry, I get really fanatical about kids having psychological support - I was in and out of therapy for a long time because I was so angry because of bullying.
