  1. anime

Not sure what prompted it but I've been listening to this song a lot today and various feelings are overwhelming me.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Well, here is literal ethics and journalistic integrity issue : / https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150724/15501631756/smoking-gun-mpaa-emails-reveal-plan-to-run-anti-google-smear-campaign-via-today-show-wsj.shtml I guess this is just how world runs.
  3. @Arathain, I actually hate the thought of playing CoH online cause it always feel like half of the battle is me fighting against the squad mechanics, like watching a squad pathfinding break when near a moving vehicle makes me want to alt + f4 (in fact I usually do). Both DoW games had squads that were lot more consistent but absence of base building on the second one left me bit cold at low unit count (CoH games also lost me there). For me, biggest draw of RTS (or wargaming in general) is this sense of playing with toy army... like more units the merrier cause it's all about watching swath of little toys doing their thing that I told them to do. So Relic RTS and all the Lords Managements lose me in that regard... like yes, I have more fun (not much I admit but still a bit) placing supply depot every production cycle than laning or telling a squad in CoH to hold position using certain cover cause it's all about getting more stuff for me. But supcom sadly lost me cause units in that game react to command too poorly for a game that wasn't really designed with that consideration so it just ended up frustrating the experience despite its hyper focus on volume. That and design was so bad. That series could have used lot better thematic design overhauls. Physical dexterity requirement when it comes to SC2 is kind of an odd beast because it's both true but also greatly exaggerated on wrong levels if that makes sense? Like it's very true that most players are bottlenecked by physical dexterity requirement, but the degree in which they are is misrepresented... like people throw 100+ APM as a thing that you must have to enjoy the game and not be garbage at the game. I mean I was never great, but I did hit masters (so not garbage) one season as Terran (arguably most APM intensive cause of its production design) with 50 ~ 60 APM. That being said, the dexterity check is definitely on the high end and yes few of things feel too laborious. I think few major things can be automated to greatly reduce the skillgap from purely dexterous skill check... for example, I think all production (this mostly applies to terran and protoss probes) should be auto-cast-able. Maybe this changed with LotV's new economy, but in WoL and HotS, there is almost no reason ever to stop building workers unless you are doing some specific early 1-2 base pushes. Til that timing hits, you might as well have CC or Nexus auto build workers by default cause that's like half of the skill ceiling for lot of bronze-silver-gold econ players. Similar thing with zerg creep for example. Zero reason why creep shouldn't be spreading, but it's little trickier cause creep is tied to tumor so how can that be automated? And I agree with Rob that 1v1 is just not as fun. I recall my most multiplayer played RTS is Warcraft 3 (not counting custom maps here) and it was mostly in 3v3. For all the shit that Lords Managements/Lord Management games get about toxic community is, it's better to be with dipshits sometimes than to be mostly alone. Better team maps alone could bring me back to SC2 multiplayer. Team games just remove so much of the stress while maintaining almost all of the fun for me.
  4. XCOM Enemy Unknown

Played it a lot in b13 that I'm kinda burned out on it but yes, it is a pretty fantastic mod. Shame that I'm so burned out on it cause there are tons of changes in b15 that I really like but it just takes too long to get to the juicy mid game.
  5. Games w/ Level Editors

Warcraft 3 map editor is an excellent place to start. It's not the most powerful but it's very easy to churn something out if that camera/control scheme is something you are interested in working with.
  6. Inspirational Curiousities

That gif is pretty mesmerizing~ very beautiful!
  7. Things to look forward to?

Oh dang it you just brought up nightmares about elephant unit micro tricks in Rome 2 :x
  8. Things to look forward to?

It's looking quite impressive, and I'm much more sold on it as actual gameplay than the battle for carthage ones for Rome 2. But I guess Gorm won't be too pleased about giant units being stuck in special animations like the wyvern eating animation
  9. To clarify, Razer is effectively buying copies so that they can distribute them however they want. So say, a dev previously had deal for $10,000 to make exclusive title on Ouya (which then dev could earn profit off of). New deal is that Razer will buy $10,000 worth of copies from the dev for Razer's own Cortex platform but the dev would also be free to sell the game elsewhere. As pointed out, much better than previously feared outcome since now devs will have an option. Heck, the new deal might actually work out better for most devs but just wanted to point out this important difference.
  10. International Politics

Mix of envy, irritation and reluctant acceptance from SK. There is huge desire to learn English and absorb all things tied to that language because it is seen as one of main ingredients to international power. Irritation because troops stationed committing crime (from minor to major) always get immunity from national law and people remember few not so great meddling in wide arrange of affairs (most infamous one being Gwangju masssacre committed by USA supported regime). Reluctant acceptance cause as much as people may express their dislike towards USA presence in the region, absence of one paints a worse picture of uncontested Chinese influence. Interesting tibit... South Korean government does not have control over its armies in case of war. That belongs to USA. And right now the president is the daughter of a dictator that ruled over Korea from 1961 to 1979... weird stuff going on in general but I guess that's how it goes for everyone. Also SPAM and instant coffee is everywhere. The one true lasting sign of strong USA military presence.
  11. Episode 315: Fixing Franchises

Well, if any series has enough nostalgic fanbase to it, we now have crowdfunding to re-try in a way. In fact I think that's the major push of kickstarter games... selling on promise of 'publisher abandoned franchises'. Weird feelings on Warhammer: Total War because Games Workshop itself is facing some real life 'end of times' event :x... mhhahahahahaa XD Also I wish the Three Moves Ahead staff were more experienced with some Koei strategy games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms cause that series took some wild variations (IMO peaked at 11 with power up kit).
  12. anime

That's the one that got me started on the whole OST. Every time I hear that track, I feel like I have forgotten/lost something significant and not sure if I should be happy about it or sad about it. It also makes me feel that something has definitively ended. Then the track after that one just makes me sad. Then the track 7 omg... it traumatized my tween mind that had such a dork waifu crush on Asuka. It wasn't til I watched FLCL that I fully recovered what that accompanying scene did to my mind. Then FLCL did something else so : /
  13. anime

Just listened to entire OST of The End of Evangelion again. Why did I subject myself to this emotional whirlwind~
  14. Endless Legend

I've reinstalled and played Endless Legend a week ago to try out the last DLC and I still stand by everything I said before.
  15. Episode 314: Massive Chalice

I play similar to how you are describing David. It just drives me nuts if I know of a efficient path and I don't take it, with exception being perhaps Civ games where I pick a victory condition I want to pursue, or drag on the late game just so I can see the empire blob more. And it's not that I don't like variety, I just don't want variety to come in a form of sub-optimal by huge margin. Oh and yooo same two games that got me into strategy games~! When I saw Dune 2 I was blown away because it was like a game version of what I was doing with toys back then.
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    I concur.
  17. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I think it is definitely rare trait so my default is to not expect it. I'm personally happy if I can get an awkward silence out of someone who's done me wrong. On world view related topics on top, apologies are like, impossibly rare. IDK what your religious beliefs are but have you tried talking to someone on the opposite end? It's fucking impossible :x I think my view on deity is pretty obvious and derived from common sense but apparently it also is an affront to reality for others~ This isn't to say I don't care for wrongdoings... just that perspective is ultra powerful force and that it dictates 'common sense' (wow I want to say comet sense so bad). But this is getting way off topic and this topic is so rich on its own, Zeusthecat shall we open a new thread on this?
  18. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Angry Joe comparison is interesting because I think you guys will find TB more unbearable if he were to engage with his audience the way Angry Joe does, which is to literally gather and direct the community. Like if AJ were to start discussing the topics outside of reviewing games, I think his method of engagement would be far worse. I still recall that tweeter lashout between AJ and editor of IGN over whether 8.9 for Titanfall could be summed as a 9 (yes, they were yelling at each other on public space over that...). It was a fucking mess on both ends (to be fair to AJ, the IGN editor called him out first for misrepresentation). My perspective might have something to do with the way AJ tends to type on social media though (using lot of abbreviations, which distinctively give off sense of 'tween' vibe) so I may be too critical of his social media handling for something superficial. And it is this distance that I actually prefer for these youtubers because otherwise it gets just creepy exploitative. Not going to name anyone out but you guys surely have seen tons of eceleb who goes on about how much they love the audience and the community then follow it up with "ok then here is how you can pay me, the guy/gal who loves you!". The whole donate culture of games celebrity culture feels so grimey. This aspect of TB distancing himself was something he's been doing at least as back as 2012 as an opposite of that tendency (he was answering a question about if he will ever accept donations) and it's something that I wish more ecelebs embraced cause the flip side feels really exploitative. Like, I think he should keep doing that distancing and can understand the indirect impact he had on GG because that distancing arose out of awareness of what kind of influence he could have had over his audience. So it's not that he is completely obtuse about his influence over his audience. In ways (above mentioned one and about what it takes to succeed as youtuber, a topic where he was aware that it wasn't about some quality show but rather about cult of personality (basically becoming a celebrity)) I think he is way more aware than ordinary youtubers out there and that's why I had such high view of him prior to this GG debacle because that really stood out for me amongst the sea of "TODAY'S HIGHEST DONATOR!!! CAN YOU TOP THIS PERSON???". It is with GG he is hyper obtuse for some reason, but I don't think he's being deceptive either cause of how consistent he is about this specific topic. I don't know man, that sounds like it could easily be used for victim blaming. Like I could apply that word for word on Joey Quinn (or pretty much every single target of GG) but she doesn't owe a thing to her crazy ex. And the notion of 'oh I was wrong' is extremely difficult to come by as CLWheeljack said, and that is without even adding regularly sent death threats. People should apologies cause of what they did, not because bunch of people told them so. But understanding what one did is super hard so... : / Like do you guys remember that vegan thread and how heated it got at some points? And that was with a small community of people whom I think are very well educated and well meaning for the most part.
  19. Things to look forward to?

Are you guys talking about Sorcerer King?
  20. Fall of the Samurai

This ability is too powerful (ninjas have that in vanilla Shogun 2 and I think it was champions in Rome 2 although spy's poison like straight up killed 15% ~ 20% of an army was equally dumb) and I hope CA either removes or preferably heavily nerf this from agents in Warhammer TW. It's broken ability cause it stops that army from reinforce nearby allies, so with couple of ninjas/geishas, you can tear apart say, 5 armies with just 3 through auto resolve by locking out few from reinforcing so you have superiority, rinse and repeat. I like the idea of delaying enemy armies through sabotage and harassments and this could represent that so hence I don't want it removed, but more in favor of tweaked. Delayed armies should still be able to reinforce allies in combat for an easy fix.
  21. Star Citizen

pkirkner that sounds like a sound assessment. I have a question since you are much more well versed in this genre... Does Elite Dangerous' release affect your view on Star Citizen at all? For genre newbie like me (only played X3), release of Elite Dangerous seems like damning proof against RSI's management because Elite kept their vision (still for a genre newb like me, a grand vision) in check and got a fully functioning game out while with RSI the thing just looks impossibly feature bloated. Or does the fact that Elite Dangerous got made with much lower budget give you hope for RSI?
  22. Episode 314: Massive Chalice

    Thank you~!
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Minor update to that 6 part video series by the creator in response to parts of video 3 (caught it through Maddy's tweeted article) http://innuendostudios.tumblr.com/post/124340929972/so-i-was-liking-yr-why-are-you-so-angry-series Very classy way of handling criticism.
  24. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That second video covered something that I commonly fall for. That's some heavy stuff to chew over (in a great way)~
  25. The threat of Big Dog

That's pretty sweet~! Anyone kind of into RC here BTW?
