Did you know that WA is Japanese for DEMON??????
  2. Ferguson

I'm not sure which thread this should go in, if any; but we were talking about the BlackLivesMatter incident at the Sanders rally here previously. Maybe a 2016 Election thread is possible?
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I don't know what the Waluigis mean!
  4. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

I think what stands out to me most in recollection of that act is that if you crawl onto the front window of the right cars in the city, you'll get the coolest piano black OctoCamo pattern in the game. It was an essential save when I kept a library of the most interesting and unique patterns I could find. Which irritating house fight? Do you mean with Laughing Octopus? What didn't you like about it? I wonder if it's a pattern that the even-numbered Metal Gears are always more rushed than the odds. It seems like you hear about more cut from 2 and 4 than the others. I bet we'll find out that a lot was cut from Phantom Pain too, though, despite it being V.

I didn't call you stupid, I said you can take the time to educate yourself. I'm sorry if that came off as harsh, but I consider it a part of personal growth in this community, particularly when it comes to people with privilege. When first encountering social justice, a lot of people have to question some basic beliefs about the world, and that often results in doubling down on "those SJW crazies." Nobody denies that "terrible leftists" exist. Like Bubsy said, this is an incredibly self-reflective community. If you feel attacked here, it's because your definition of such is demonstrably ignorant. In this thread you've cited appropriation of black hairstyles, the use of racism as a term of institutional power rather than personal prejudice, and were quoted being indignant over not using ableist language. That, in addition to your original assertion that "there are plenty of people who actually vehemently hate all white dudes, or think people who draw porn should be in prison or whatever," which still reeks of bogeymen to me. None of these are actual problems in the community - they're real intersectional issues that have trouble gaining traction because people see the initial headline of "Black people can't be racist" and think "That doesn't make sense," and attribute it to extremists instead of bothering to question what the truth is. So I'm sorry that you feel put upon and are reading my posts as saying that if you were smart you'd agree. I still consider myself primo noob here so I generally don't want to step on anyone's toes. I actually agree (and think I've posted here before, or have said so in the chat) that we could use a little more back and forth discourse rather than echo chamber. In this case, though, this whole argument is steeped in ad hominem from the start - whether it's you talking about the extreme left or accusing people here of being dicks to you, etc.
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

This is the most important point, in my opinion. Before GamerGate was ever a thing, I would commonly see false dichotomies created between "SJWs and MRAs," and then consequently see it pointed out that such a premise was inherently flawed because "MRA" was a self-identifier and "SJW" was effectively a slur (not a real slur, obviously). It may be occasionally self-identifying now, but I'll still see it turn up in totally different contexts like nothing's ever changed - like when Red Letter Media called Joss Whedon an SJW to dismiss complaints that Jurassic World was sexist recently. That stuck with me because it was a big reminder outside of the realm of video games that people haven't changed in their ability to cast off inconvenient politics as "Oh, those silly SJWs." It honestly doesn't sound like you were using the term any differently than GamerGate, MRAs, or TumblrInAction still does. If you consider yourself a feminist or an ally or whatever but still found yourself laughing about the most radical SJWs to your fellow progressives, you were probably just being suckered by deliberately caricatured straw feminists from other sources. As above with the cultural appropriation of afros, there are usually perfectly valid reasons for the most clickbait "This woman wants to KILL ALL MEN!" headlines that MRAs like to come up with, if you bother to educate yourself.

It's not difficult to find ostensibly progressive people who were willing to dismiss the Black Lives Matter movement or disparage those particular protesters with ugly racial rhetoric because they had the gall to do activism incorrectly.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Uh, I'm not really convinced that "Social Justice Warrior" was ever a useful term or that there's a significant contingent of anti-white misandrist bogeymen out there. Also, while I'm here - I mostly wanted to stay quiet during the last few pages or whatever, because who cares what I think - but I was thinking what Problem Machine posted before they posted it and I didn't find anything wrong with their tone or anything. I've rewritten this sentence a few times, which tells me something, to avoid pointing a finger at someone in particular - so I'll just say that for the most part I think everyone acted totally reasonably.
  11. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I'm aware of this, but retrying only takes you back to beginning of the mission - as in, not far back enough to change any equipment or anything to solve the actual problem.

  13. Town of Salem

I've played this a few times with friends over Skype and we all found it tremendously overwhelming and confusing. Having said that, I'm a total Mafia addict, back to the days I used to run it on a message board with assigned characters and in-universe fan fiction to go along with each decision, so I'd be totally up for trying to further penetrate this with Thumbs.
  14. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Were you playing with Reflex Mode turned on, Nappi?
  15. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

The mission you're referring to is supposedly a main story mission, if you watch its selection in those videos. Granted, it's Metal Gear, so I'm sure there'll be some points in the story that'll be more tightly scripted, but Peace Walker was already heading in the direction of fewer of those anyway, for better or worse.
  16. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Wow, gross. There isn't even a Day One Edition on Steam and the PC bonuses you do get are different than what's on the chart. At least, that's what's advertised. Who the hell knows. Whole thing's gross.
  17. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

What a good day it is now that I've officially pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid V.
  18. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

You can put main playable characters into different camos, so I'm holding out hope I can switch Quiet into something not ridiculous and have that stick.
  19. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Here's the last achievement I got in Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut before running into a game-breaking bug that kept the scripted doors from opening which, after thirty-seven hours' playtime, would have finally led me to Megan:
  20. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Thirty minutes of Mother Base gameplay from Gamescom. It all looks incredible, to me. The multiplayer stuff makes feel super apprehensive, of course, since I'll doubtlessly feel compelled to do it if it has a narrative push or the rewards are irresistible, but I'm also certain that I will constantly be destroyed and furious.

Basic point but: not unconnected to why Republicans demonize Democrats as financial and cultural elitists despite the former being the party whose policies work against the general interests of the poor, blah blah blah adolescent politics.
  22. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

    Kaz... I'm already a demon...
  23. General Video Game Deals Thread

Maybe this post will just paint me as a grumpy teenager in a black t-shirt, but for me it's hard to single out games as an especially foul moneysink instead of just seeing it as yet another consumer-level indictment of capitalism itself and, more so, the culture of semi-annual product obsolescence into which we've been conditioned. Like, in my case, I'm not at all a phone guy, so I get to shake my head at all those people lining up for the next slightly upgraded iPhone and think with faint self-righteousness how they're collectively destroying the world; meanwhile, every single new game that ends up hitting the marketing target with me - it convinces me that this is the one that will save the medium, that I'll play something that will genuinely make me feel something profound and break down gameplay barriers and do something totally and completely revolutionary. Then it doesn't and it's yesterday's trash; as soon as a game is a few months old and I realize the world hasn't changed on its account, its value drops tremendously for me - its newness is what makes it so inherently precious. Sure, some of that is worth personally talking to a therapist about, but it's not so unique that I don't consider it to be a symptom of a pretty poisonous corporation-driven society, man.
