Hope Diane Keaton doesn't see this, it'll break her wee heart.
  3. Twin Peaks Discussion

What made Twin Peaks so special? http://www.newstatesman.com/culture/2015/04/what-made-twin-peaks-so-special
  4. Jake talking about how the show can sometimes try and shock the audience by showing what life was like back then reminded me of the first ever episode, because it is never as bad as it is then. When Joan shows Peggy her typewriter she says "don't worry they said they made it simple enough for a woman to use" And Peggy says "Oh boy* I sure hope so." *may have imagined the oh boy. Then you've got that shot of everyone smoking and coughing in the meeting. Okay guys we are in the sixties, we get it.
  5. Twin Peaks Discussion

I was going through my old PC the other day and found a folder labeled twin peaks. Turns out the very first time I watched twin peaks I watched it in a player with a snapshot function. So now I have all these snapshots of moments throughout the entire run that I thought funny, important, cool, terrible. But sadly among the thousands of pictures of Audrey was a screenshot of the ending, which if forgotten
  6. The End of Mad Men: Welcome

    Really happy this is happening!
  7. Me and my brother laughed for about half an hour when James bursted in and said "WHYDYOUDOIT!" classic James
  8. Books, books, books...

I dropped my copy of My Brilliant Friend in to the mud. I think I might cry.
  9. You could also have 8 player Micro Machines 64 turbo by each of you sharing a controller
  10. Also, during this episode Jake says that PN03 is not a good game. Don't believe his lies.
  11. I could not believe that reader email about playing Jedi academy with a buddy and one controlling the mouse and the other the keys. I used to do the same thing with my brother but the game was Jedi Knight dark forces 2. I would gun, he would run. Love that game
  12. This was a strange episode. It is good to see Donna actually going to school though, she hasn't been for about 3 weeks, don't think there's any hope for Audrey and Bobby going back mind. What was with Truman's goofy laugh with doc after the grieving mayor left his office. Kinda harsh. Episode also featured world's largest pitcher of milk. Denise+Cooper is great. Oh and the drama of Briggs' return was dampened by the fact he was dressed like dick dastardly
  13. Best thing in this episode is Pete. He doesn't have any lines and is only on screen for seconds but through some hilarious facial expressions he perfectly conveys the feeling of being sat at a wedding with people you don't know/ like. Obviously not typical wedding guests but still. Most enjoyable scene in the episode. I went to my Mother's wedding recently, I made that face on several occasions. Also there was one really odd bitb where Cooper looked directly at the camera.
  14. Books, books, books...

It was actually your post that got me interested!
  15. Books, books, books...

Today's purchases. Mostly because of this thread.
  16. Agree. Just caught up with this episode and said the same thing to my brother afterwards. It feels like a cop out. Especially since the first time I watched it I thought Leeland had at least some awareness of what he was doing, even though possessed, I thought he'd started to enjoy the way it made him feel. But no, he's completely unaware, then he dies happy seeing Laura again. Poops. Also although we've suspended our disbelief a load so far I found Coopers sudden realisation in the dream to be a bit daft even for twin peaks. On the bright side guys James rode off on his bike never to be seen again. Right? ...Right!? Agree with others that Donna was quite smashing this episode though
  17. Books, books, books...

Am example from towards the end. Its mythic and weird and at times beautiful, I really like the structure and at times McCarthy managed to make me feel sympathy for Ballard. Ballard the man, at times he shows himself to be just ac normal dude, childlike and crippled by loneliness. Sorry. Excuse my rambling its 3am, I just finished it
  18. Books, books, books...

I finished Child of God right, it's good(I think) but I didn't really enjoy it apart from one particular passage that made me chuckle " The dumpkeeper had spawned nine daughters and named them out of an old medical dictionary gleaned from the rubbish he picked...Urethra, Cerebella, Hernia Sue." "Hernia sue" Everytime I read this I wanted to take it in to the shower with me. Typically McCarthy, the descriptions of the landscape are beautiful and I made sure to keep a dictionary handy. The first part of the novel consists of these short stand alone chapters about a page and a half long and the narration seems to come from 2 separate places as Ballard, the maincharacter, wanders about being cold, peeping on a couple having sex in a car, assaulting a woman at the side of the road. But then in part two the narrative is more continuous and it gets reallt grim... My least favourite McCarthy so far.
  19. Books, books, books...

I just started reading Cormac McCarthy's Child of God and just realised that the 2 books I have read are now shite James Franco films.
  20. Books, books, books...

Finished As I lay dying the other day. I really, really liked it. Early on I found myself not understanding it, having to read sections twice because of the language and the indirectness of it all but after a little while I got into it and I read the second half 10 times as fast as I did the first. I know, I know, it's not a long book but as I said above, I am a simpleton. Yeah I really liked it, it was frustrating and sad and beautiful. Anybody here read it? What did you think?
  21. Books, books, books...

I think that I am going to read that next. Sounds great
  22. Books, books, books...

It is my resolution to read more books. We are a month in to 2015 and I have read one... Pathetic. It was The Emporer of the West by Hywel Williams. Its about Charlemagne and the Carolingian rennaisance. I read a buttload about Charlemagne in sixth form history and produced 2 essays on him and really enjoyed it, so naturally I enjoyed this book. Charlemagne seems like the kind of figure people should know more about. Now I am reading as I lay dying and I am a simpleton so I am finding hard going in parts. Enjoyable though.
