  1. Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."

The problem with Windows 8 really was that Microsoft were making changes for themselves, since a lot of consumers didn't want the changes. And clearly they don't care about giving consumers what they want while MS still retains majority market share.
  2. No tropical fruit left behind - Kickstarter

This is fantastic, but it looks like it might not get funded...

I would imagine that the reason they have the platform names in the actual titles is so they can be distinguished when they're in lists or databases where you won't see the cover and the platform may not be immediately apparent.

I respect the choice, I hope it goes well! Admittedly I might feel the same if confronted with that kind of situation, because I know I'd really prefer to avoid that kind of job. Also if you're expected to do it with a smiling face, that's definitely an added stress you don't want. In largely unrelated unemployed news, I took the course thing I mentioned a bit back. We had a briefing and aptitude test today. I don't know for sure if I'll get in, since I have no actual experience but I think I did alright on the test part. I also found that the course seems to be relatively concise and focused, so it seems like it would actually be pretty good at teaching me if I do get it. And If I don't I just gotta make more things.

Ooh, great resources. @clyde: That seems more 3D focused and in depth but maybe I can extract and simplify it for a 2D plane mesh... I'll probably need a quick C# lesson first @itsamoose: That is a great demonstration of random principles from Spelunky. I had no idea how limited the range technically is. Even though I noticed the rooms, I had thought the layout of the rooms were almost totally random. I must now ponder the logistics of making this work in a non tile based system, I'm certain it can be done I just need to discern how to go about it.

As a fellow vegan, I fear that situation too. Unfortunately I agree that maybe you should take it for now and try hard to find something else as soon as you can? Presumably you wont be obligated to stay for very long, I'm a bit of a detached person, so I feel like I'd be able to try just putting up with it. But I have no idea just how much it would affect you. It is also pretty relevant what happens when your money runs out. Do you have any safety net whether it's family or welfare? If there's literally nothing to help you out then unfortunately you don't seem to have much choice. Also if it helps at all, you taking the job isn't really going to cause more animals harm. Whether you or someone else did the job, it'd still be done. That wont change the feeling of being in that environment but maybe it will reassure you to remember you're not increasing demand. (sorry if this is no help to you, I have a very pragmatic view of my veganity)

Wooorms. God I loved that game. Aside from what was said on the podcast, I think what was really great about the game was that after you'd taken your action, whether it was firing a rocket or whatever. The gameplay stopped, it turned into a tiny little play where you and your opponents were just watching and hoping for your scheme to play out without hiccups. The other thing that worked really well for me in that game is that it really didn't explain any of the weapons, and there were so many. Each turn it would be easiest to just try firing rockets around, but with 30 other items that you don't fully understand. It'd only take one use for you to find out the sheep was an explosive jumping thing, but then later you find out that you can manually detonate it before the fuse runs out. And also you can set timers on grenades, and even bounciness (if I remember right). But there's so much to play around with it actually takes a while to really know what they all do, especially when some items are gated to only appear randomly out of crates. So I was always a bit mystified by the giant concrete donkey statue. Man, if only one of the other versions of Worms was good, this is making me wish we could gather up some Thumbs for Wormy action.
  8. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

That reminds me that I should probably play the first one.
  9. Unity Questions Thread

So I'm trying to make a procedurally generated 2D terrain. I was messing about with instantiate at first, and it does a good job of making the surface that the player should be colliding with, but I also want graphics that'll fill in all the space beneath those surface objects. Obviously game objects are overly resource heavy, especially because I was making the surface by doing a series of tiny cubes, and I'd end up with thousands of cubes if I made all the terrain out of them. So since instantiate is strictly a game object function, does anyone have a suggestion of a different tact to generating the graphics? I'm not sure if it'd be easier to make a procedural 2D mesh or just modify the original idea to make a series of 2D sprites or something. I'm assuming the series of things would be more resource heavy, but how bad they'd be I don't know. Any thoughts? Also, minor gripe about much less important thing. Unity seems to not support regular Arrays? I don't understand how that works, but apparently if I have an array full of numbers I can't evaluate them mathematically because it automatically just thinks an array is full of objects. Am I doing it wrong or is unity just kinda weird here?
  10. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

It's more fun if you decide to play psychopathically and make it your mission to wipe out as many settlements as you can, totally ignoring the intended stories and systems to focus on raw killing power. I did that.

I have to let you all know, there are many Irish accents. A lot really.

Witness testimony is the most useless, flawed and biased form of evidence but it has always proven to be the most persuasive.
  13. Post your face!

Blast, you got there before me.
  14. General Video Game Deals Thread

It is possible to tell the game to revert to an earlier version though. I forget how, but I did that to be able to play an old save after the game had a big update that made it incompatible.
  15. Plug your shit

It helped remind me why being productive is good, so yeah!
  16. Plug your shit

I didn't do anything specific to make it work, it just seemed to work for me. You didn't change the name of the Start passage did you? Assuming you didn't, I have no clue what I did.
  17. Plug your shit

I tried taking part in 24 Hour Comic Day, and ran into some obstacles that massively frustrated me and led me to making a Twine Game instead, partly to ensure I did make something and partly to vent about my creative frustration. It didn't really help deal with the frustration that instigated everything but it did make me feel better about being productive. Anyway, I don't know if it's any good but at least it's super short, here it is. (It's an itch.io!) I tried out Yarn clyde, it was fun! It had pretty good feel for something so simple. It was almost like playing with a 3D etch a sketch. There's no link there dude!
  18. Holy Crap, There's a New Homestar Runner Cartoon

Also, as the fish eye lens shots show, the rough animation can actually do a lot more movement in the actual animation than their sleek styled stuff that generally looks a lot stiffer because of how they reuse assets in order to make it easier to make episodes. So I dunno, I feel like it looks rougher but has more life (like the early Simpsons) while the 'proper' style is clean and nice looking but feels like it's just meant to get the job done (like modern Simpsons).
  19. Other podcasts

I've gone onto that channel twice and not really known how it works cause I've never IRCed so I just saw snippets of other people's conversations then had to go away from the computer
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I... I don't see how the apparent goal of Gamergate can remain significant when this shit is happening in the top tiers.

Fine, fine! I'll try it out. (I keep forgetting to add it, but it's on my phone now)
