There's probably nothing wrong with a game saying that you're a badass but there's enough games devoted to pushing the idea that there could be a Feminist Frequency style dissection of many examples. When it's a trend then games are often taking advantage of an insecurity to instill an appeasing facade that keeps players coming back again and again to the same games that make them feel awesome despite the fact that real life does not. Real talk, I played a lot of Spelunky and TF2 in the lows of time when unemployment slump was making me feel like a shitty wizard. I did it because I feel pretty good at those games and so it makes me feel like I know what I'm doing. Now imagine people playing a multitude of these games, not realising that's what they're doing and never actually breaking out of the cycle. EDIT: Also Intel have resumed advertising on Gamasutra. So much for the minor victories of GG.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 5: The One-Armed Man

I have a bit of a thought on the visions but it's a spoiler so -
This is true, better add a rising or an origins on the end. Actually though I do like the name. It read for the right feel to me, so much so I'm surprised it's unused. I would recommend the logo reflecting the horror more though, it seems too clean and undamaged given the name and horror element.

I quite like the Christmas bullshit stuff, I'm just put off when it's overly sentamentalist while simultaneously drawing on the most trite and overused tropes. Has anyone seen the trailer for Nativity 3?

Redownloaded Hit Mango only to discover that my save file is gone, the one where I had every single challenge thing done. I guess I'm a dummy.

Hot damn Over the Garden Wall is fantastic. Just watched the last episode and I know I'll have to rewatch it to absorb it fully. It's been a long time since I saw something that worked so coherently with itself and made all the parts really mesh together. And I loved how dark it got away with being, dark and just weird in some of the ways the show worked. Agh, I have to watch it againnn.

I know there's a lot of incorrect presumption in that but the quote I pulled was the most fart worthy to me.

Overwatch - That time Blizzard made a non-Diablocraft game.

It's currently 12v12 as default, and players drop in and out at random unless you specifically organise with people. So, to be fair, the chaotic nature of public servers makes it hard to really implement teamwork. I don't think the game design beyond that server system and team size is at fault though, competitive TF2 is super team focused. -
Totally, it's more nuanced than catcalling and I'm not even sure what to think myself. I was just introducing that point since no-one else had said it (at least not directly)

I'm not entirely sure if I can take part yet, waiting to find out some stuff. Though I will say that personally $20 is a significant amount especially if I had any intention of paying postage.

I don't have a very informed opinion on the ethics of posting a story like Serial, but I feel like the blame should be targeted largely at the people online that are invading others' personal space out of a compulsion to hear about a story. Ideally this mentality would be what's being addressed but it's complicated to try achieving that. Obviously the pragmatic solution is to remove the temptation at the source by not having the show exist, but that doesn't mean it's the most ethical one. Especially when it's providing a massive positive in the experience of how broken the system can be at times to a large listening audience that might not have realised this before.

Read the description and thankfully the video backed up your post! I'm all for this. I don't even mind if the plot is going to slide all over my brain without penetrating, judging from the trailer I could watch this like Enter the Void and get a fully gratifying experience.

I think the 2013 version of Maya has a Hollywood Animated Acting plug in so you can just turn on different expressions easily. -
Got a message offering a potentially long running freelance gig doing pixel art on a game. Who says you can't expect jobs to just fall into your lap?* * After first creating an online presence, portfolio and a proven track record.

I did appreciate that, it's pretty cool of them to make an indian woman the engineer, buuut I've mostly heard this called sameface, and it's pretty rampant here. Even the non gendered kind, everyone's design is just... blandly similar. I thought the setting looked great but then a bunch of fps protagonists beamed in and I was less enthused about it. And this also matters for gameplay cause TF2 made a very strong effort to differentiate the shapes of every class so you could easily tell whether it was a scout or a heavy running around the corner in the distance. I'm not seeing that in this. Of course it's hard to do this well when you're planning for a buttload of characters, but you can definitely do better than all the ladies being skinny with some boobs and butt. -
Loving the update! It feels way more chaotic with this much movement, though is it meant to be so fast? When I go up in the air I almost feel like Superman. Also, this is terrible feature creep but maybe it could be done pretty simply? I was thinking it'd be fun if I could choose my own tiny audio files to replace the ones you used for the tones. I was just going to replace the files in the game's folder but it seems that Unity doesn't have the media files just loose (at least not by default). If there's a predetermined method for this I think it'd be awesome... but that could be said about a lot of complex to solve problems.

Eidolon is on my wishlist, I've gotta deal with some backlog first though... With Transistor I did kinda like the gameplay, I never dived deep on it so just treating is casually probably made it more challenging and meant it changed up my abilities since I died quite a bit. The story perplexed me a bit and in the aftermath I liked it, I still think it's a bit murky and uncertain but I like what I know and I think it's better to have games going away from the idea that they need to be easily understood. It definitely felt engaging and compelling to me without comprehension, so it drew me in enough to really ponder it all.

Idle Thumbs 183: The Anonymouses

Binding of Isaac: Rebirth ...oof. I mean, the overall look is pretty nice but... they have those outlines EVERYWHERE? That looks damn ugly. :/ I like the idea of it being pixel art but they shouldn't have made it pixel art that tried to be the same as the vector look. The two drawing methods have different visual strengths, and constant thick outlines is not a strength of the pixels like it is in vectors. -
Worms Armageddon is 80% off on steam, making it €3, and also $3-4? It includes online multiplayer, so perhaps if anyone else is up for some wormy Thumbs action we could get a game going.

I've repeatedly had the exact same frustration and repeatedly been annoyed that exact solution hasn't been implemented in a sim game (that I have seen). Though it would be quite difficult to handle in realtime, it'd probably require a time speed modifier based on what the activity is. (ie. pulling weeds speeds up time but time goes slower when you're just at the shop and super slow when you're re-ordering inventory). It's a lot easier to do in a game where you do just block out time in advance and then it happens. Of course a game could combine both, have you block out periods of time in advance, then in real time carry out those periods. But that's problematically frustrating, when the block ends and pulls you out. Like the real time, it's hard to pull off.
