Twin Peaks Rewatch 7: Realization Time
SuperBiasedMan replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
I think that was meant to be Blackie's way of catching out Audrey as a high school girl rather than an adult who'd been working for years. On that, is this the original example of the tying a cherry stem in a knot with your tongue as a sexy maneuver? I feel like it's come up in TV from this era a few times but I wasn't present in that time to know it very well. -
Idle Thumbs 185: Beppo's Hole
SuperBiasedMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Aghh, hrmmm. Ok I'm going to post a response in spoiler tags so you can ignore it if you want. I'm just gonna say I'm not offended, sorry if it sounded like I was. I just think it is something worth talking about cause I find it interesting. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
SuperBiasedMan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Wouldn't that be partly out of courtesy to the publisher? Not wanting to outright say "they pulled the plug on us" while at the same time not wanting to say the game is cancelled without explanation and take the heat directly. -
Idle Thumbs 185: Beppo's Hole
SuperBiasedMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I was kinda aware of Taylor Swift based on a roommate playing the Shake it Off song a lot, but I had only then discovered that she is an adult roughly my age, not a teenager/child. I don't entirely get why you think it's important though. I don't have her intersect my sphere of existence very much, apart from a couple friends who listen to her. And then of course the general impact she has on general culture, but is it necessary to learn about her and all the other things that generally impact on culture at large? And if so, what constitutes something important enough for me to know about it? -
I too own this already, intended to play it after hearing good things but now I REALLY wanna play it.

It's a lot easier for robots to build themselves if they're just made of Lego.

Relevant.

A worm's brain was encoded into a robot as its programming and it appears that it behaved like a real worm.

I think a recurring creative issue is that you think of the cool stuff about an idea, imagining how great it would be to do X, Y and Z. When it comes to the process of making something, you have to spend time in the opposite of cool, figuring out how to fix things that are broken or improve things that aren't as good as you'd like. The vast majority of time spent on something creative involves you looking at the cracks and holes that need work, so it's important to remember the initial concept that you're aiming towards.

I crushed a DS touch screen in my hands because I got that frustrated with EBA

Including Kojima's P/T?

I'm sorry to explain why an offputting creative choice is supposed to 'work' but my fan love compels me.

Idle Thumbs 185: Beppo's Hole

These days they're on youtube, they have apps and a twitter feed. They're more present than ever. -
I bought the DS soon after launch with money from my confirmation (Christian form of bar mitzvah basically, I don't think it's as common in the Americas?). I feel super old since this means it was nearly half my life ago (even though that obviously means I'm not old at all). GOD yes. Classic game. In retrospect, I love the idea of the DS being filled with visual novels/mild puzzle games like Phoenix Wright and 999 but those were always a niche ...though they also never nailed how to make that stuff seamless. For such simple systems, they were pretty clunky and slow to click through. Other favourite was The World Ends With You. Just a classic in my mind. Probably hit close to home as a teen who was shedding a reclusive shell at the time and it reinforced the feelings I was having. But even aside from an angst reflection, it's just really fuckin good. (...as long as you can get through the previously mentioned clunky text to skim through cause TWEWY has a lot)

I didn't know the band Twelve Inches Equals did a collaboration with the rapper What a Fucking Dumb System!

Absolutely, I think a simple thing that you have fun making and then get to share is way more important for this than trying to build your skills. Musical Stacks is a good example of a thing someone could make, a fun idea that you can show people and see what they have to say about it.

Befriend clyde, that'll definitely help. But yeah. I echo a lot of what he said. I think that milestones are good but shouldn't be personal. When you hit a milestone, share it with people. If you are particularly concerned about how much you show people, you could still show screenshots or video to show off. The point is, don't hit a milestone and then set a new one without sharing it in some way to help with feedback and validation. I had a thought, would enough people here be interested in a jam club? Maybe we each make a very small game every month on a theme, post them all in a thread and then we talk about each other's games. The focus would be making something chill and fun, since I assume most people, like me, would have this on the side of the other game making (the other stuff probably already being a side project...) So yeah, anyone else interested in regular lowkey community focused Thumb jams?

The very easy mode is searching for a mod that gives you an item to instantly kill all enemies you can use at any point. I got this mod and have no regrets.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 6: Cooper's Dreams
SuperBiasedMan replied to Chris's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
I agree with Wheeljack's thoughts about Audrey, I feel like it's no accident that those scenes came in the second half of an episode where she manipulated her father's employee in order to get a job at the perfume counter. She's acting like the assertive and dominant figure she thinks her father is, using it as a mask. But then later in the episode she gets a glimpse into who her father really is, and realises just how terrible he is, and it no longer feels like it's a game where she can tease or outplay him, leading to her vulnerable appearance in Cooper's room. -
I also just finished Monument Valley today, less than 24 hours since I got it. It definitely left me wanting more, the ending seemed a little premature but not terribly so. I think if I wasn't primed to expect a short game I would be super bummed now. I feel bad focusing on the length, but it's because everyone else has said so much wonderful stuff about this already. It's a great game, for entirely ungamey reasons. It has puzzles sure but it's more akin to Journey, where failure is never an expected outcome at all even if you might have temporary trouble getting from A to B. I love it like I love good walking simulators and I look forward to the DLC, I'm not even sure if I want them to be longer and challenging or just more spaces to explore.

Amazon regularly offer free apps to attract people to their marketplace. Ustwo probably wanted to get some notice with the expansion... I really HOPE it's not a response to the criticism.
-
I expect this is the plan (I'll likely buy it out of guilt) and makes me think they might've taken a hit on the amount they earn from this deal for the sake of promotion.
-
I nabbed that, thanks! ...though in light of the latest cast though I am preoccupied with wondering if this earns the same amount for the devs as a real sale.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
SuperBiasedMan replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I kinda actively tried not to search for collectibles, since that ruined the experience the first time round. And it didn't seem like I'd need them for anything so all I bought was a Psy core or two and then never really went back to the shop. -

That is pricelessly the place, yeah. I got into the post office and the only way forward was blocked by a web. (also didn't help that I found the costume gathering tedious before that part cause I wandered for ages not thinking to bust open the cars)
