Idle Thumbs 160: Die Übiverse -
Do you think that people creating sexist media have equal responsibility to those consuming it? Bear in mind that most people don't get a real education in understanding and reading media, whereas people who create media often are supposed to learn to read it as part of the training for their job (though that doesn't necessarily mean they've worked on the skill enough to notice the biases and politics inherent to their work).

"This Dame walked in, blonde as usual, pouring her heart out with her woes. Said she'd had it with her skeletal mother in law and her noxious emissions. So it looks like I've got a new case, I've gotta figure out why DO skeletons fart that way?" -
Sure! I assume the 1402 number came from doubling the number in my profile picture? It's too small for me to read on my phone. Assuming that is the case, I kinda wish I'd had the idea sooner so I could exponent with much smaller intervals.

Episode titles sounds like a fun one to me, as long as they didn't end up being uncreatively specific. But I mean... Esophagus Sarcophagus, come on! -

People can be intelligent and sexist, it happens all the time really.

Ketamine! Nearly forgot about that one.

Have you tried any Swedish fruity cider, like Kopparberg or Rekorderlig? (I have no idea what's available there)

So it turns out my country accidentally legalised over a hundred different illegal substances (including things like LSD and meth) for a 48 hour period. salutes the nearest flag I don't plan to make use of this impromptu festival but that's just a wonderful demonstration of this place.

I haven't read the article due to the aforementioned criticism, so if I ought to please correct me on that. I agree that it's not a good idea to presume that you should protect your consenting partner but I think that toxic masculinity is deeply rooted enough that I'm not willing to leave my mind to run unchecked. It's not that I question my partner's agency so much as my own, wondering why I want something and if maybe my desires are informed by harmful ideas and shouldn't be indulged in even if there is a partner willing to indulge.

I am behind tegan's idea, it already has my vote for winner. Should we make a list of people willing to take on a certain role? I could volunteer to pixel art, program, write, help teach thingies. I'll volunteer as a wild card I guess, alternatively I'll just make my own game. -

I also got the impression that there was magic at play and it didn't make me like it any more. -

I misread that as suggesting the theme "A wizard jam that's not about wizards" -
Gaizo, if you look at Depression Quest. It's a game Zoe Quinn made to say something to people, it was made as a piece of art for them to enjoy. Her main goal is to spread the message it contains. If she charged even a penny for it, less people will play it because they're now purchasing a product. It's possible she only made this decision because she didn't think the market would pay, but I suspect her goal was not monetary and thus decision served the goal of making art much better.

Yup, you misunderstood. Because I basically agree with all you just said (though I didn't know about those upgrades). I'll play more but I don't see it as being very prison based, it's just a building sim with some different ideas (ie people literally have to run around and build it while it's inhabited), so the research thing IS baffling but it's not the only dumb decision that holds back the game from making a good depiction.

I also found that was in pretty poor taste for a show that had been about the corruption of young women by men for the sake of their own desire. -

"What if I did IDEA FROM OTHER THING I SAW, but with MODIFIER TO CONCEPT/MIXED WITH OTHER THING I SAW?" -
The thing is it seems totally absent after that, I just had fun with the other parts and the first time I played and entirely skipped the tutorial. It seems entirely representative but it absolutely turns people away.

I would ideally love to take part, it'd be a lot of fun! Would people be mostly going solo or doing groups at all? Just cause groups might make some less experienced people more comfortable even though it's more work to organise that way. -
The moralising introduction to Prison Architect is super weird. It basically teaches you the basics of how to play the game while questioning the ethics of the American prison industry by (quite poorly) trying to present a case that's ambiguous and hard to judge. But after that part anything I've played of the game is just "It's a sim where you build a prison" It'd be like if the Sim City tutorial presented you with the dilemma of whether or not continued urbanisation is a sustainable future for the world or a way to slowly kill the planet while trying to insulate humanity from nature... and then just played like Sim City.

I got this amazing Buzz Lightyear for Christmas that didn't even exist over here because it was made for the American market. It was half a metre tall and talked. Being a weirdly pedantic child though, I was quite disappointed that instead of green on his chest plate it was a weird faux chrome colour and therefore not The Real Buzz.

I'm confused by what's being implied here, but I didn't mean to portray teachers in general any particular way, specifically just crotchedy old English school marms.
