Yeah the Python truthiness can look quite silly for a language that's all about readability. I was suggesting it as an overly clever answer that's actually impractical since it's less readable without particular benefit. Usually truthiness is mostly useful when the variable is not of a single defined type but you want to make sure it contains something.

I saw Fury Road and I was not expecting to see Tony Stonem as a Warboy.

if (fizzbuzz.equals("")) println(i); Is madness. Everyone should just use Python. if not fizzbuzz: Best!

That is exactly how I felt 4 months ago! I didn't study programming in college, I had self taught some and didn't even really think I should apply for the job... But then I got it. Also no one else here knows any programming at all so if that stuff breaks it's on me, and maybe the IT guy if he knows anything about it, so the impostor syndrome was a rough burden. It worked out pretty well for me though, now I'm the dude who keeps making the computers go faster. Hope it goes well for you too!

Realistically though, we should have noticed how he has a conspicuous full name instead of just 'Cool Name' the Type of Animal.

I like how no-one noticed the mis titling as "Brothers: A Tale of Two Cities" instead of 'Two Sons'. I think Jake was accidentally talking about an EA Presents. (though it may have been the emailer's goof)

I can attest to this. Just 5 years of veganism (after being an omnivore) red meat sometimes smells like dogfood to me when it's cooking.

It's a lot more fun if you just assume they're all secretly vampires. Wait why is this the TV and movies thread?

Double post (stupid phone)

In sort of the opposite vein to this... I'm a vegan and find it annoying when people try so hard to accommodate me in restaurant choice. I know it's attempting to be accommodating and inclusive but they don't need to press hard on how a place has vegan options. Almost everywhere does, and even if they don't I'll live with it since it's my decision to have this diet. I'm more concerned with not going to pay for a €10 burger (vegan) that'll only feel like lunch to me even if they're massive to you because I'm a remorseless eating machine that devours food. I thought turning vegan might've given me a good excuse to go to dinner without people and not have to buy food but that didn't quite pan out. (don't take me as a representative for other vegans)

Totally! I'm of the same generation and I'm glad to see what this says about our country today. I'm just saying it wasn't enough to make me certain we'd win though there should have been literally no chance for any group to vote on allowing a group to be oppressed. Maybe I'm a bit pessimistic though.

I use that Unfollowers thing but til now I literally just got emails when people unfollowed me. I gotta check out that other stuff.

When I asked about that last time, someone turned me onto GifCam.

It Came from The Wizard Jam: The Fanboy's Lament [Dev Log]

Making the rage inducing headlines persist more definitely was a good idea! I love the jokes on them but they seem to go so fast. (They could probably be kept a little longer than now, really) I'm not sure exactly what was actually changed from the last to this one but it plays smoother! I think that tiny tutorial room added at the start was definitely a good choice for making the venting clearer (since I didn't get it for a few minutes my first time round). -
Those are both accurate rebuttals but I think it is a fair point still. I wasn't even totally convinced that the referendum would pass despite the fact that this is such a non-debatable topic. Not too long ago, there was a referendum about allowing divorce and it literally passed by 0.28%. Allowing a majority share to make a decision for the whole is a risky business even though it is entirely the foundation of democracy and there are places where a popular vote like this would be a landslide against. Not to mention the fact that other rights issues could easily have trouble in our very country, like recognising trans* rights or allowing abortions. Though it went well this time this result is not without pause for concern and warning.

Decent human being could be a good replacement.

Yeah Twig, I get it too. I'm way too lazy about nutrition too. I eat a lot of vegetables cause I cook vegan all the time but when it comes to actually considering nutrition my plan is to mostly just not eat too much of the obviously bad stuff and eat a lot of what I do have. I have a terribly high metabolism so I eat a bunch and that makes me extra lazy about contemplating food. I just have no faith in any quick fix solutions, last of all with food where people constantly try to exploit others and there is a wide range of efficacy between keeping you healthy and killing you.
-
I literally just got that.

Well, I'd make the argument that it's rarely good to abstain from thinking about something important. Especially if your plan is deferring to accept the judgement of a startup whose main concern is maximising profit and growth rather than the actual health of their customers.

Definitely 80 Days the mobile game that was written by Meg Jayanth. You've heard about it on the podcast and it is totally worth it. Especially for its representation. If you're also including podcasts... Criminal is a great show hosted by Phoebe Judge. Each episode takes a person's story about their interaction with the criminal justice system. They can be stories about being wrongfully convicted and what that does, someone being blackmailed for years or the story of a 71 year old woman with a long rap sheet and her thoughts on how crime has changed over the years. Justice Points is another gaming podcast, that I think is a great companion to Idle Thumbs. It features similar chat about games that blends casual chat with intelligent analysis well. But JP is more focused on games than IT is at this point, and it feels like JP is more invested in actually addressing the issues and what's going on in the games media.

Just for the sake of being updated, are we short by many? -
Frankly the combat in Dragon Age and puzzles in point and click games always just annoy me as fluff I don't play those games for. I feel like the use of 'mini games' here is like the Thumbs use of 'lore' in a recent cast. It's not that a deep and detailed world is bad, it's that when it's handled poorly it feels like this thing called 'lore' instead of writing or backstory. Likewise a poorly integrated mechanic that ends up being un fun and feels incongruous will be called a mini game.
