The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
SuperBiasedMan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I would love FF6 remade as an open world game where all the dialog is visual novel style with gorgeous art. -
My interest in that patent is pending.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Oh that would be MUCH weirder. But I assume not, because then there's no hook for direct continuity. Unless they rework just the ending, which would also be super weird. -
I'd suggest once a fortnight and I agree about starting next year to avoid holiday buzz. Does 2 weeks sound good to everyone else? I'd have slight reservations about 3 weeks making the gaps too big for it to be a regular habit. Also no love for Monsters U. I thought it was pretty fun movie even if it wasn't one of my top 5s. But I guess there is a lack of direction to a lot of it.

Entirely assumed based on the more expensive end of episodes I've seen before. I've never seen an episodic game cost more than a normal full release, but if anyone was going to do that I do admit it would be Square. -

It was a big mess of licencing rights. It's easy for Square to rerelease their old FF games that they still wholly own and can just redo graphically and put on iPhones. Double Fine had to work hard to get the chance to do GF and accessibility of it was much more of an issue than the many versions of Final Fantasy 1. I'm sure it was about money too, but I feel like there's a significant difference. -

Episodic games are usually not very expensive, but I definitely think this is a way to make the price seem lesser. Each episode being $10 with the full set of 5 for $40 would probably seem fairer than just one $40 game that's just a remake of a decade old game. Not that it will completely prevent people complaining. I never had any doubt this was about the cash though. It almost always seems to be the case for remakes except when the original is actually difficult to get a hold of/play (like Grim Fandango). -
Or they're about to announce the Half Life 3 Fig funding campaign.

I think chronological order makes sense as people might come late to the list and affect rankings and also we can set our technological expectations linearly. Toy Story 1 is pretty dated visually. EDIT: If you just meant the order that they're currently arranged to display the rankings then that actually is chronological order: Toy Story A Bug's Life Toy Story 2 Monsters, Inc. Finding Nemo The Incredibles Cars Ratatouille WALL-E Up Toy Story 3 Cars 2 Brave Monsters University Inside Out The Good Dinosaur

Yeah that's exactly what I was hoping. I do wanna see some Carrie Coon! She hasn't done much in the episodes I've seen so far. And I do kinda like the character, it's what his story revolves around that's turning me off.
-
I'm assuming it will be accurate for most people (it's a joke thing but if you want to replace it go ahead. It does not affect ranking)
-
That's a great idea, so great I went ahead and made a doc for people to put in their top 5s. There's currently a sheet with my top 5 and plenty of space for other Thumbs. Underneath our picks is an automatic score counter that gives 5 points to a 1st picked film, 4 points to 2nd etc. To make sure it works, it's easiest to copy paste from the film title there. I thought it'd be fun to have objective metacritic ranking in there too. We could add another postwatch sheet later of course, but for now fill the sheet to your heart's content.

This is fantastic, exactly what I was thinking of! (don't know why I specified video/podcast). Thanks!

Started watching the Leftovers. Hate the name and the opening but it's a pretty fun character show. I'm watching in the hope that it's like Lost without the overarching mystery to ruin it. Eccleston is my favourite character. I really wish it had less of the American style family focus though. I don't know why it's always such a theme of American drama but it gets old.

I kinda agree that it would be therapeutic to watch Cars and formulate specific criticisms. Maybe it'll even turn out that some people like it. (people can always skip that one if they wantl
-
That would be super fun. I like a lot of the movies to varying degrees, Wall-E being one of my faves for the silent storytelling. But I'm not seeing enough Brave hate. That was a movie that was half made with more ambitious and different narrative ideas, that halfway through production was squashed into the Story Moldtm and it really does show.

I really enjoyed hearing the weird mish mash of Brendon's early modding days on the games he played. And painstakingly recreating pixel by pixel sounded like a nightmare.
-
It was disappointing that the ending couldn't just be "It's better to try a desperate, maybe hopeless attempt than give up", instead it had to be that as soon as they put in effort the whole world was reborn.

I want this Pixar thread please. I have many thoughts on Despicable Me and Shrek.
-
Congrats! That's a fast turnover, you'll probably be promoted on Monday.

I agree with both of the above posters. I think Zeus is right with the analysis but I think that ultimately they didn't quite get the right balance with abstracting psychological processes. They leaned too hard on classic story principles and ended up reframing psychological ideas to fit the planned narrative, rather than the other way around.

This is super cool in many ways. Looking forward to how this pans out. -
In addition to what Merus said, I find myself skipping over threads for most games I've not heard of. So I hear about more unknown games through recently completed.
