The sting of the co-op dilemma is hard considering how rarely I even get time to play new games instead of just returning to an old favourite like TF2 or Spelunky for a quickie, let alone trying to co-ordinate like that. I feel like the easiest approach is to attempt it with my girlfriend when we move in together, but even then it'll be a logistical juggling act of making us both in the mood for the kind of game we can co-op.

I dunno, I don't think it's terribly fair to say someone's asking for it when they just want to use a system of cheats that don't compromise the experience of others. With no system of warnings for VAC, it is kinda shitty for it to have real consequences when the 'criminal' part of the crime is moot.

That's a fair assessment, I guess I don't usually contextualise TAL as a show of impartial reporting because they're so focused on the human aspect of the people involved and sometimes that means the viewpoint of the reporter is the story, but as shown with that one it's not always the case. I essentially proved your point though, that they didn't need to highlight that stuff because I reacted that way myself, probably more so than I would have if I was already being spoonfed with how I should respond. I am curious how that worked for other people with varying degrees of pre-existing knowledge of modern sexism.

I know that they were doing that story in a way where they just wanted to represent the views of the people they interviewed but it really bothered me that it wasn't really slammed for being sexist. It was highlighted as invasive but the episode didn't really delve into the idea that the entire point of the rule book was about being flawless living dolls that didn't interrupt by doing anything other than the simple tasks expected of them. Instead the story started by saying it was invasive and weird, but it said it without extrapolating the real social constructs behind what a cheerleader is and how they're treated. And then when it went on about them balancing the line between being classy and slutty it just got worse for me really. I'm actually really wondering now if This American Life generally doesn't address sexism in a satisfactory way and I just haven't noticed. I really hope that's not the case, both for what that says about the show and what it says about me.

I suspect the indie amount is being pulled down by having a much larger number of people try being indie developers but still having a relatively low amount of indie games being big successes.

I don't have an actual rebuttal because I'm just confirming that yes assuming probable sexism is different to making it Dr facto what a woman says. Maybe it came off as if I was conflating the two. Rereading is hard on a phone so I figure it's safest to declare that myself. My post was just meant to be how I view the situation, and what I personally think is the best approach.

I'm not sure if this is what SAM meant, but I think it's good to be of the mindset where when someone who lacks privilege says they're being prejudiced against, you default to assuming it's true until you consider the actions carefully. You might find after some deep thought that it's not, but it's safer to adopt the guilty until proven innocent approach because sexism and other prejudices are deep rooted subconscious biases, and being aware of a bias does not make you immune to it. So if you default to believing someone, you're far less likely to dismiss behaviour just because you haven't given it due consideration. When they point it out, you can think over it. And if you feel it's definitely not problematic behaviour then you don't need to take their word as the objective truth because as you both pointed out, it's entirely possible to read prejudice in an action even if the person reading it isn't over active in searching for it.

Just played Magnificent Planet, it was a strange experience. I already feel like I'll constantly question the potential existence of authorial intent with this series, particularly cause I already think I maybe there was a specific slant to this. I guess I'll spoiler...

Question about the DSC fix, it says to edit DSfix.ini, then gives a different step to take if I already edited it for DSMFix. Should I still do the edit as well as the extra step?
