  1. anime

I've cried a bunch at Your Lie In April and am not yet done with it but really like it.
  2. Social Justice

For an academic to assume that her knowledge of preschoolers applies to these college students, many of whom are people of color, is incredibly presumptuous. Young people of color are more than familiar with being spoken down to by well meaning white ladies. For her to respond to a request to avoid offensive & appropriative halloween costumes with a comparison to a child wanting to dress as Mulan is so much missing the point that I can't even begin. Maybe if we had honest discussions of race with those children, there would be no need to send an email to the Yale student body to not use black face or dress as an Arab terrorist, but apparently it's necessary. It was incredibly ill considered to respond the way she did. Telling students of color who or what they should be mad at and why is incredibly condescending and I totally understand why the student body reacted the way it did.
  3. iPad gaming

At Day of the Devs, burly men at sea was there and the devs (Brain & Brain) previously made doggins which looks like an adorable dog based adventure game. http://dogginsgame.com/
  4. Day of the Devs 2015

that's true, he did dj last year and this year.
  5. Day of the Devs 2015

Looking at a youtube video of the old version Ben X, the mouths move a comparable amount. I also don't like the way it looks in the old version, but it's I think very noticeable given the movements do not correlate with the words being said so it's jarring given the updated quality in resolution/pixel density/whatever you want to call it.
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

    (those caps are intentional)
  7. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I keep thinking about quitting Read Only Memories and get mad all over again about what a terrible design choice the climax of that game is.
  8. Day of the Devs 2015

Polygon has their streams up on youtube, and it is easier to skip through the technical difficulties. It's split across 3 videos
  9. Day of the Devs 2015

I was sad I didn't have enough time to play Wattam or Secret Legend. They both looked incredible (http://www.funomena.com/wattam/)
  10. Day of the Devs 2015

Here are the highlights of what I saw & played last night. (and ewokskick pictured playing DOTT) 1. DOTT - I'll definitely play this. I don't like how much the mouths move when they talk, but I think it'll be fun still. I've never played it, so a remaster/update will give me an excuse to do so. http://dott.doublefine.com/ 2. Nick Robinson hosted! I am excited to watch the archive of the demo stream as I was standing in line for most of the night and unable to watch the demos. 3. OXENFREE - Very excited for this, telltale alums making a game with similar telltale conversation timers where you pick what you're going to say. Has a supernatural aspect that I'm excited to explore further. http://nightschoolstudio.com/ 4. Tacoma! Obviously excited for this. Looks beautiful. The demo gives the impression of more of what I liked about Gone Home on a more ambitious scale. I probably didn't need a demo to tell me that though. https://tacoma-game.com/ 5.Night in the Woods - this game made me laugh out loud multiple times in the ~10 minutes I got to play it. Dark and funny and I'm really into it http://www.nightinthewoods.com/ 6. Donut County - a la Katamari Damacy. you're given a hole that you drag along the plane of the ground dropping things into it. The more things that drop the bigger the hole gets and the bigger items can drop down. They things can interact in interesting ways, like dropping a campfire and an ear of corn can result in popcorn flying up out of the hole, so there seems to be some small puzzles that probably get more complex over the course of the game. http://donutcounty.com/ 7. Burly Men At Sea: 2D Point & click adventure, but navigating the screens consists of dragging left and right to reveal more of the screen. Played this at the end of the night and didn't have a ton of time with it, but it looks totally gorgeous like a children's illustration style design that I adore http://www.burlymenatsea.com/
  11. Intoxicated:

This is maybe the most endearing series of three posts in my time here on the forums.
  12. Day of the Devs 2015

Ewokskick, myself, and likely Cleinhun will all be there today. I'm wearing my doritos/mountain dew/video games t-shirt!
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

Well if you're a trad, it's still drinking all the time. They're also less rigorous and structured and stressful than joining an official choral group on campus. There are auditions, but they're much less nerve wracking than school run auditions. Maybe you always liked to sing but don't want to sing choral arrangements and would rather sing pop songs, a capella groups are a good way to do that.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

Every valentine's day at Macalester you can send someone a singing telegram from one of the a capella groups on campus. usually this song:

I did not like Read Only Memories, but a lot of people did, and I'm glad you did Tanukitsune!
  16. Winter Wizard Jam Team Building Thread

I know and like python a bunch if someone wanted someone to help them with a project using that. My free time + amateur knowledge of python would hamper me from being in charge of anything, but I'm all for being delegated some work. Please feel free to PM me. I have no preference on theme/idea, but am willing to help if anyone wants it! I'm in the Pacific timezone in the US.
  17. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

That's when I would play a game like Harvest Moon (or Story of Seasons), or do something repetitive in Pokemon, like breeding or leveling. Something low stress, but also has some reward for doing well.
  18. Cibele

Yes! I played it on Monday and very much enjoyed it immensely. I was particularly struck by lots of memories of what it was like to be Nina in the game's age (18 or 19 or so) and trying to figure out what it mean to be a sexual being in a society that both celebrated and scolded me for that. I had a weird online only relationship through WoW my freshman year of college that I used in place of meeting people and dealing with my social anxiety that stunted my grown a lot, so this game particularly really hit home.
  19. Recently completed video games

A great game to pair Cibele with is, imo, http://emilyisaway.com/, an AOL instant messenger game that takes place in the early 2000s.
  20. Recently completed video games

I played Cibele earlier this week and really really liked it. I would recommend it if you have ever had an intense emotional connection with someone online that maybe didn't go the way you wanted. It's a fairly short experience, but I think really important if only to show you a shadow of what it's like to be a teenage girl who is trying to figure out how to be a sexual being in a world that at the same time celebrates and scolds you for doing so.

Little pro tip for those of you who use facebook chat on your desktop but are annoyed by staring at your homepage all the time https://www.messenger.com sends you to facebook messenger and you don't have to look at your ugly facebook page all the time.
  22. I Had A Random Thought...

Yolo county isn't even holding elections today???? I could find no evidence there was anything to vote on.
  23. Life

When I eventually get married, I definitely plan on doing it courthouse style, which my parents have approved of. I do want a badass party after though. I feel like the effort and exhaustion of planning the ceremony is not something I want to get into especially given my desire for a non-religious ceremony and my parents who would want that. It's easier to just do courthouse. Going tens thousands of dollars further in debt is not appealing, I got more than enough student loan debt to cover that. Ideal reception would be no food, but drinks. Also I don't have to deal with my SO's weird friends jockeying for best man status, which started like 4 years ago that they were already asking for top billing. Like dude, this would in no way be about you.
  24. I think Christmas is overrated. Like the month, two month long build up to Christmas is the worst. That's a classic right? Am I doing this thread right? (The day itself is boss. I love presents and food, but hard pass on the music & the decorations.)
