Important If True 1: A Gleaming Collaborative Future
jennegatron replied to Jake's topic in Important If True Episodes
The Snagglepuss voice slayed me. My boyfriend looked up who does the art for the Snagglepuss comic book, and he is as, described by my boyf, a legendary DC comic artist named Howard Porter. He illustrated JLA for Grant Morrison & Mark Waid. I've seen parts of twitter wondering why DC didn't hire a furry artist for this book, but I kind of love the unsettling nature of Porter's art on Snagglepuss. -
a true shame, given Steve's affinity for (in game) toilets. painting Gaynor probably would love to be in the bathroom.
-
I think the Gaynor portrait might be in the bathroom?

i would recommend you tell me, the only reporter for what appears to be a defunct paper that betty is trying to bring back???? also the idea that in episode 3 what the fuck is even this show. you baffle me and leave me coming back for more riverdale.
-
oh nooooooo. i've commented repeatedly while watching riverdale that jughead is my least favorite character because i agree with you and think he's portrayed by the weakest actor, so an episode focusing on him is a downer. i find his narration kind of grating and insufferable.
-
Yeah, basically a cult becomes a religion when a certain critical mass of people and societal acceptance occurs.
-
watched episode three. this show is bad, but i might continue watching regardless? i love teen dramas and the archie updated comic has been my jam, but this show is so heavy handed with everything that I am having a hard time with it.

Pokemon Moon (beautiful) and Sun (more beautiful)

I'm finding it hard to remember things like where I'm supposed to go next or where I go to do things I need to do. Like why can't I just fly to the daycare? Why do I have to run through a bunch of paths and grass to get there and then when I do get there, there's no easily repeatable loop to run in front of the day care to pick up eggs and hatch them like there was in X/Y. I'm pretty close to completing my 'dex, and have beat the elite four, but this game just isn't grabbing me the way X was. I don't know. Maybe I burned myself out in X and needed more time before a new game came out. Maybe I played it in a way that was less fun due to my obsessive tendencies for collection. It's weird. This is a game I heartily recommend but am not actually loving as much as I hoped I would which is representative of basically all the games I went into 2016 anticipating. -
MaxFun donations are split equally among the list of shows you tell them that you listen to. Then a small portion of every donation goes to the network as a whole so they can develop new shows and pay for the staff that runs the network & pay for drive rewards. They also have jumbotrons & whatever ad revenue they get. Travis has made podcasting his full time job, whereas Justin & Griffin have other jobs still, which I think is a good indicator of hoe much you have to podcast to make it a full time gig.

Next month is the Max Fun Drive so now is a great time to try out other shows on the network and see if you like them, so that if you become a donor, or upgrade your donation, you can split your contribution among the shows you like best! Might I recommend trying: Judge John Hodgman, Rose Buddies, Sawbones & Still Buffering. Shows like The Adventure Zone only exist because MaxFun can help pay their creators. It also gave us The The Adventure Zone Zone, which I find pretty illuminating, so I hope they do that again this year, and will give us some more bonus eps! Rose Buddies, Sawbones & Still Buffering are McElroy products or McElroy brother adjacent. I love RB very much and is one of my favorite shows. Griffin's banter with Rachel is so charming, and even if you don't watch The Bachelor(ette) you will likely be entertained by the podcast if you like Griffin.

I watched episode two and I think this show is really bad? If I wasn't watching it as it came out, I would definitely quit. I'll try episode 3 and see how that goes, but I think it's kind of terrible?

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
jennegatron replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
Yes. She's talked about being mixed race - https://leighalexander.net/on-twerking-and-being-mixed-race/ in some of her writing. Judging her by the color of her skin is not the same as recognizing that she's a woman of color. In that piece she talks about how she's light skinned, and her curly hair likely comes from her Jewish mother instead of her black father, and that she's got privilege, but also isn't white. I don't really understand why dudes are telling me that the lasting legacy of her appearance wasn't about being a woman while in the same breath saying they don't actually know what the legacy of her appearance to the community was. I am not a fan of Giant Bomb. I have listened to a handful of their podcasts and watched a couple videos. Their stuff just isn't my style. I am not a member of their fan community, but I am aware of the shit their community said about her in the time and years following. eot asked a genuine question about why Leigh's appearance is remembered the way it is, and I was simply being honest. I understand that it rubbed people the wrong way, but the severity of the reaction and the lasting legacy of that reaction is absolutely because she's a woman. This isn't about a single person's annoyance with her drunkness. This is about a vocal portion of a community of predominately men hating a woman for like 7 years because she was drunk and loud - a privilege only afforded to men.- 1367 replies

Honestly, if you don't think that it became the deal it was because she's a woman & a woman of color at that, you're being willfully obtuse. Greg Miller goes on and takes off his shirt and acts like a doofus and no one bats an eye, but a woman has the audacity to be drunk, like every other guest they have, and not be a door mat that everyone talks over and it becomes a whole fucking deal for like a decade. eot asked why she specifically was singled out and is remembered and it's 100% because of who she is rather than what she actually did.- 1367 replies

Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc.)

You become Iron Fist by besting the heart of a dragon! I doubt they move to a character other than Danny though. -
As soon as Christian Slater's character advocated for returning to the gold standard and no one told him that he's an idiot I turned of Mr. Robot and never returned.

There was recently a pop culture happy hour episode where they talked about Riverdale and teen soap style shows in general. After listening to that I watched the first episode of Dawson's Creek and that has so many of the same beats as the Riverdale pilot, except Dawson's Creek has virtually no redeeming qualities in its first 2 episodes (I quit after that) whereas I am interested to see more out of Riverdale. I love low stakes interpersonal dramas, which is why I like shows like Gilmore Girls & Friday Night Lights, and why I have watched like 15 episodes of The OC in the last 2 weeks. I will probably watch episode 2 of Riverdale tonight. All of the CW's shows can be watched for free on their website or on the CW app on Roku & I assume the other streaming service sticks/platforms.

Can @tabacco create a robot that just links to: every time Sean comes up? LONG LIVE HTTP://MITTEN.CAT

Justin has been pretty vocal that he's not interested in DMing and has deflected whenever it's come up on the show iirc.

Griffin has said this is indeed the last arc before the final conclusion which I assume will be a mini-arc like the moonlighting arcs. It is the 6th of 7, but this is the last relic retrieving arc, if I understand what Griffin has said thus far. The relics thus far are: I think that this arc is super influenced by the Spike Chunsoft games (virtue's last reward, dragon grandpa, etc) and I understand why this wears on some people. I feel like there are so many different aspects of the podcast that individuals gravitate toward that it's hard to make everyone happy with every arc, unless you are really just interested in the story telling Griffin is doing, which is why I'm in to the show. I like that Griffin has plotted out these stories and is hitting specific moments for his players to play out, and am willing to give him as much time as he & the tres horny boys need to get there. I wonder if people who had missed listening to the show in real time and marathon listened are caught up and now have to listen in real time and it's extra painful for them. I have been listening as they came out from the jump, so this arc isn't bothering me really at all. The time loop was way more tedious to me.
