  1. Titanfall

I was going to ride my bike until I discovered it was raining outside, so I'll be doing this instead. Hit me up if y'all want to grind out some levels.
  2. I just installed Thief: Gold for the first time

I've always been interested to explore Ken Levine's early work. He seems like a gentleman with some interesting narrative ideas and a genuine desire to force games out of their adolescent years, but I get the impression that it all went horribly wrong somewhere down the line. I was actually impressed with the writing in the intro videos for each level in Thief thus far--not that it's Hemingway, but certainly better than most.
  3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

You're inferring, I'm not implying. And if you wanted something less formulaic, you should probably look elsewhere; after all, this is adapted from a comic book.
  4. I just installed Thief: Gold for the first time

I looked up their gameography and surprisingly, I don't think I've played any of those games. I didn't have a so-called gaming PC until 2003, and by then I was too busy with the likes of Battlefield 1942 to step backward.
  5. I just installed Thief: Gold for the first time

I think it's hilarious when a bad guy turns on me during a slap-jacking, only for me to clobber him about a dozen times before he finally succumbs to my might. I haven't completed the first mission yet, but I can imagine at least playing a couple of levels. It seems pretty advanced for its age.
  6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I agree that most of the harsh edges have been sanded off, but that's Disney & Marvel for you. I appreciate how much this movie does to expand the feel of the Marvel Universe more than I dislike the half measures. I was just happy to see Scarlett Johanson and Sam Jackson actually get something to do in one of these movies. It also has probably the most cogent, well-staged action of any of the Marvel films, instead of losing itself inside shaky-cam lightspeed edits. Perfect? Of course not, but Winter Soldier is probably the best action film we've seen in a while.
  7. Rusty's Real Deal Baseball [3DS downloadable]

Alex Navarro made it sound intriguing during one of his morning shows with Patrick Klepek this week. The concept of a divorced dog selling baseball video games is just absolutely fucking insane.
  8. ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery

It's inside-journo lingo, babe--get on board. But seriously, it stems from doing some copy editing in college. I really need to find an excuse to start writing again; this new keyboard is heaven to type on.
  9. I just installed Thief: Gold for the first time

I am also downloading the HD Texture pack which I guess was recently released? I was tempted to buy Thief 2 while it's on sale at GOG, how does it hold up? Will I get my $3.50 out of it?
  10. Titanfall

There's probably just a smaller audience for the PC version, even if it's proven itself to be the best of the three. I imagine the bulk of the players are on Xbox One, as most of the ads almost exclusively that console. I hope it retains its playerbase, as the game is fantastic. I'm almost to my second regen.
  11. Amy Hennig and Naughty Dog Part Ways

Man, that's an unbelievably great fit for her: a competent studio with a license that's clearly influenced a lot of her work. She was basically writing dialogue for Harrison Ford anyway, might as well shift it all over to the real deal.
  12. Batman: Arkham City

I think it's relevant to the game discussion, personally. It's a willful decision made by the developers and--for me, at least--mars what is otherwise a near-flawless game. As I said in the Ground Zeroes thread: I don't care how true-to-life the usage is, it's vulgar. It reinforces negative gender roles and serves to indoctrinate another generation of kids into believing it's an acceptable term to sling around.
  13. GTA V

Jacob, the drummer in Wavves, used to be in a band called Bark Bark Bark. I believe I once led with the headline "Bark Bark Bark Suck Suck Sucks" in my college paper. (If I didn't go through with it, I at least envisioned it.) He was in the Mae Shii briefly, and according to Wikipedia, he's still with Wavves. I did see Wavves during its first incarnation at SXSW one year, that was pretty fun. A homeless man got on stage and proclaimed himself Sho-Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem (who doesn't love a good Last Dragon reference?) and danced around for a while. Very bizarre night, actually.
  14. Batman: Arkham City

I vastly prefer the design of Batman's outfit in Origins to the previous games...given my druthers, I'd like to see Bruce Wayne doing some detective work in the late 1940s. A post-war noir thriller featuring Batman just sounds so insanely awesome, I would probably have a stroke if such a thing, regardless of medium, were ever announced. I understand that Origins is sort of an also-ran, but at the same time, I've got a lot of love in my heart for all things Caped Crusader.
  15. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Gone Home stuck its landing in way that so very few video games ever do. I mean we're talking Portal-level storytelling here. I have argued with people about its validity as a game, which I think is patently absurd to argue. The thing about this is how absurd it sounds when given context. It's not as if Gone Home is so avant-garde that it bears no resemblance to what's come before. These other forms of media get a lot more leeway than games do.
  16. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Man, nothing gets me off like turning on all the lights in my parents' house when I go home to visit.
  17. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I'd just like to say that I only liked Gone Home do to its prominent use of lesbian characters.
  18. GTA V

Man, Wavves is one of those bands I just never could find myself enjoying. It's doubly weird because I was friends with the drummer's older brothers in college.
  19. Batman: Arkham City

Arkham Origins? I bought Arkham City at full price three years ago and did not regret it.
  20. Metro: Last Light

I can't imagine that the PC version of Last Light will look that much better than it did a year ago, though I suspect the current-gen versions will outclass the 360 & PS3 offerings by a substantial amount. Are they updating Metro 2033 for this release?
  21. Batman: Arkham City

Arkham City was the Batman game I always wanted. I enjoyed Asylum well enough, but City finally felt like it nailed the tone and style that Rocksteady was reaching for. Other than the abusive language thrown Catwoman's way, I was very impressed by the game overall. Almost bought Origins this weekend, but decided against it.
  22. The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Game of the Movie

I haven't played any of the Beenox games, but I did enjoy the Neversoft ones back in the day. Spider-Man 2 is remember fondly for its web-swinging mechanics, but as I recall, the gameplay itself was pretty lackluster and had you doing things such as chasing down balloons to placate crying children. It's too bad Activision doesn't take a cue from Warner and build the games outside of the film license. The Arkham games share a lot of tonal similarities with Christopher Nolan's Batman films, yet they're two separate arms of the same franchise. Also, playing as Peter Parker sounds awful and unnecessary. But it would be awesome if this was good!
  23. GTA V

The incidental music is phenomenal, however.
  24. GTA V

Driving in GTA IV was like trying to push a shopping cart around an ice rink. There was just zero traction; every car handled like it had bald tires and the road had been sealed with urethane. It was not realistic, it was simply imprecise. GTA V made driving fun. Sports cars could zip through traffic and felt tighter, as if Rockstar North had just played Burnout 3 for the first time. It's really masochistic to say that you dislike the game because it gives you the awesome part too frequently.
  25. Oculus rift

Abrash leaving Valve for Oculus is actually an encouraging sign. Regardless of how it all shakes out, this has been one ridiculous week.
