I hope you're keeping that scythe next to where your heart used to be.

Yeah, I actually got a headache from playing this game. I never get motion sick, so I think something about the visuals and audio plays hell with my brain. Other than that I was liking the game a lot, but I don't want to play it at all any more.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
bkbroiler replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I don't have a very high adaptability, but apparently upping it a lot makes the combat basically become Dark Souls 1-like again. At least that's what I've heard on other parts of the internet. I'm feeling pretty powerful with my build. I have high Intelligence and Attunement, and just enough Strength and Dex to weild the fire longsword and Drangelic shield, for the 100% block. I either zap everyone with magic, or if they are resistance to it I fire longsword them to death. I also have the basic daggar equipped, because it can still 1 hit backstab a lot of enemies.- 1284 replies

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
bkbroiler replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah, there was a skeleton right before the Iron Keep area (I think) that is kind of leaning up against the way with his ear against it. And someone wrote "Listen carefully, skeleton!" or something like that. Also, someone wrote in a sunny spot "Praise the sun, right?" which I thought was some decent commentary on message-leaving. Deep man.- 1284 replies

Haha Harrison Ford gets pit stains! What a dork. Hamill's default face is kind of like that, though, isn't it? I think he has kind of become the Joker. I've also heard that lead female's reel that was on youtube was super adorable, but it has been taken down.

It was in the Iron Keep, I think? A place with a bunch of lava. I haven't gone into the area yet, so maybe it is crazy hard or something.- 1284 replies

I've seen people with 10k and less have verified accounts. Who knows how that system works. Also THIS CAST IS FUCKING STACKED. I don't want to get to hyped for this movie, but the idea of two of the Please Mr. Kennedy singers in the new Star Wars movie is so awesome. Why must expectations always be raised?

I saw a message that said "Don't Give Up!" by a bonfire that had 809 votes. That's the most votes I've ever seen, and it was just a random inspirational message.- 1284 replies

Ah, thanks! One thing that has bugged me about both Dark Souls games is when the path ahead is unclear. Like you pick up a key and have no idea what door it goes to. Or, a DK2 example:- 1284 replies

I just looked up the Ring of Binding and realized I destroyed that chest and got rubble out of it. Before I knew that destroying chests did that. Silly me! Personally, I felt like the beginning of this game was really difficult. Maybe I was just finding my Dark Souls feet again, or I was an underpowered sorcerer, but I definitely died a lot at first. Now I've gotten in a much better grove, and even killed a few bosses first try.- 1284 replies

I was thinking about joining that covenant, seems like a cool concept. I'm kind of liking not getting invaded very much at all my first playthrough, though.- 1284 replies

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

I think the early level design (the forest, and the tower area, all I've played) is really great. Dense, with tons to discover. I've spent hours just running around looking for things. Dark Souls 1 had really good early level design, but I think the areas leading to the final four bosses are all pretty universally bad, and scrap most of what makes the beginning so much fun. Instead of twisty, secret filled vertical areas they become straightforward areas that have some sort of gimmick to make them more difficult. Dark Souls 1 is still one of my favorite games of all time, but the second half of the game is a pretty big drop in quality, in my opinion.- 1284 replies

You've probably already figured this out, but the shield thing is a bug. I got it too, restarted my game, and shields worked normally again. If you notice your stamina recovers SUPER slowly because it thinks you never let it down.- 1284 replies

Holy shit, thank you. I knew the human effigies had to turn you human from the stuff at the beginning, but I didn't think to use them from my inventory. I burnt one at a bonfire, say it said "Invading is blocked" or whatever, and thought I had just figured wrong.- 1284 replies

I don't think that puzzle is as bad as some of the others in the game (like the TUMBLER ONE!!! or kitty hat day, which I think is just not clear), but I do think they could have clarified the draining visually (is there a wet spot where the drain is after you've used the water?) or even had Manny say "Looks like the water is all going to the center of the room."

I wish I was better at this, because imagining the number train I could get going is really, really exciting. Jesus, the tail section can knock off and lose you big numbers. God help us all. -
First a roundabount hint to where you're stuck, and the in game hint you're missing regarding the puzzle: Glad you're liking Year Three. That's interesting, because it's actually my least favorite year (though I obviously love the whole game). I can't argue with the parts you like about it, though. Chepito, Domino, the Angelitos ("check out my bone saw!"). Specifically, the way Chepito says "it's a BUST ALL!" has stuck in my head for the last 15ish years. I don't know why.

The religion thing is something that always fascinated me about D&D - in a world where praying to you God can give you material and immediate benefits, why would you ever not be religious? Like you said, it basically flips the current real-world view on religion. On planet Earth, religion is a matter of faith. But if your faith is confirmed by hard fact, the atheists out there are maybe representing their faith that there is nothing? or unwillingness to devote their life to one thing, even if you could literally talk to a diety? It's a weird kind of contradictory view.
