  1. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Yeah its weird how long I've gone without listening to them. I'm really loving how dynamic they are. It's funny that I only got around to them because I was listening to Lightning Bolt on yt. Yes its sad how becoming overly familiar can hamper my enjoyment of music. At the same time, format greatly defines enjoyment. Listening to UMO on earbuds is infinitely worse than my sennheiser 'phones. Anyway my current groove is Haim -Days Are Gone What Bad Hat has shared below me.

Hi MadTom, seen any of that sweet fungus lately?
  3. Life

Yep, NZ. A friend of mine said that lemon is good because it breaks down mucus. I find that I like honey a lot when I have a flu it's pretty good for a sore throat or something. I've also heard that a few drops of apple cider vinegar in some kind of tea/juice can be good. Aside from being delicious a good tea would be hot water, honey, chunks of fresh cut ginger, squeezed lemon, and a few drops of that cider vinegar.
  4. Life

Life is kinda great right now. I've just finished my summer job which was weeding a lily farm; now I'm thinking about whether I'm going to do a course in film, or creative writing, or software engineering, and I'm just kind of lounging in that state where you feel like you have all of the possibilities right now without the crushing weight of feasibility. What isn't so great is this meatworks that's about 10k down the road from where I'm staying. It's upwind so pretty often we get the great stench of all that.. Plus it's been really hot which qualifies at over 20 celsius and I really need some airflow in the bedroom I live my life out of.

Oh it's fine dude. I think it's fantastic you're championing a different album; I'm going to find it today and see what it's about! I've been listening to them a lot over the past week, and I'm loving pretty much every full length album I'm coming across, Flaming Lips with Heady Fwends, Dark Side of The Moon, At War with The Mystics, Embryonic, The Fearless Freaks, The Terror, Once Beyond Hopelessness -it just goes on! My Other favourite band for this year+ is Unknown Mortal Orchestra buut I have been listening so much that not even the bootleg lives are keeping me going right now. I think I'll just have to ban myself from listening to them intensely for a month or so and come back. Edit: so I'm listening to Soft Bulletin now and I'm really happy with it. Cheers for the recommendation!
  6. Tone Control 7: Brendon Chung!

I'd read a lot of the buzz around Thirty Flights of Loving and I wasn't really sure if I would get it but I will now. Also I'm psyched for Quadrilateral Cowboy but I think that regardless of story for a large amount of the time I will be pretending that I'm in Neuromancer: The Game.

A great album from a stellar band.

I won't have the skills for a studio job any time soon so I think I'm pretty safe there heh.
  9. I recommend The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton. It offers insight into how people work like few other books do and delivers intrigue and wonder in a brilliantly lifelike 19th Century goldrush New Zealand. It didn't win the 2013 Man Booker prize for nothing! More compliments to pay! Easily the most pleasant prose I've read. Easily (one of) the most insightful book I have experienced.
  10. Half-Life 3

I guess I like to pretend that Valve would begin to talk HL3 around the same time they talk consumer VR gear. I know people wouldn't like it if the company gated the game to VR or at least to a date when that could ship buut they gated HL2 to steam so it's more something I could see them doing rather than what I want explicitly. It's great the company is throwing itself into hardware, I wonder if some workers will eventually tire of it and (re)form dat HL3 cabal. Still I mean there's already so much Hl content out there that needing/wanting another game seems like a "It would be nice if there was more but really..." moment to me.
  11. Feminism

You could take a look at the five minute game 'Mainichi' by Mattie Brice. I don't really understand what 'respectful' should mean in this context. It's her honest take on what life can or is like for her.
  12. Relaxing games recommendations

I find Starbound extremely relaxing although y'know, early access -people have their concerns.

Hi there, I'm Max. I'm 20 and from New Zealand. I started following the podcasts when I got my summer job which involves weeding a lily bulb farm eight hours a day (this is my second season). I play a little bit of Dota 2, a lot of TF2 and a bunch of NS2. Although I tend to play a very wide range of games. I was studying to be an ecologist/marine scientist for three years but have recently decided to change direction. Currently still choosing that direction which could either be creative writing, film, or software engineering. The latter would surely help with the game ideas I have simmering away but game deving still feels open enough to not need a direct path from ICT (though that could be naivety). Clint Hocking's Tone Control did make me feel more comfortable with coming into games from that cwriting/film angle. Anyway this forum sounds great soo Hiii.
