A library fine I had half forgotten about now has the spectre of council debt collection hovering over it. I haven't had a regular income since November so for the past 4 months I've been living off $154 ($15 of that is left), my partner's understanding and my mother's goodwill. Money's been tight all round so rather than ask for $34 for a library fine I had previously figured that I could pay for it by the time my student loan was once again in effect. How wrong of me.

I don't think that teenage obliviousness translates between the pizza industry and armed police with assault rifles, door knockers, and flash bangs. They know how asinine an experience a prank pizza call is compared with the types of response units they'll typically see in action movies and Counter Strike. I don't think anyone's saying that police should take longer to vet life or death situations (although I think it's a valid thing to suggest that armed response units have been called in as an unwarranted escalation to a police report when raids are premeditated actions rather than a rapid response) but some part of their process while on the scene has resulted in injustice. That injustice is the kind of randomised factor that may not be hoped for but is certainly invited when someone calls a swat reques on a victim. I'm not sure about sentencing every shit that does this to multiple decades of incarceration but if someone is critically injured or maimed from their actions then I wouldn't sniff too hard at their punishment. They're still greviously injuring someone by proxy or not. It may not be seen as passionate as other teenage cases of GBH or murder but I think a certain amount of equivelancy should be applied. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that the experience of being swatted is enough to cause major mental health issues/trauma whether one is injured or not. I'm not familiar with sentencing laws but if it were to sit between armed assualt and manslaughter/or attempted murder given each context then I'd say that's reasonable.

Sooo SVU ended up making a GG power fantasy?

METAL GEEARRRRR! (I'm sorry I couldn't help myself) As for la li lu le lo I think there's cause to say its in katakana rather than hiragana since I'm pretty sure it's a code made up by a westerner in which case I dare say that the 'l' is allowable.

Concept art from a new (presumably cancelled) ALIEN film

Just head canon the crap out of everything even if it does disappoint. Keeps things fresh. -
So did Taika! Grrrr

I think Ariel Pink's kind of amazing. I not sure if this song really characterises him (I'd sooner show off 'Jello') but I'm really feeling how Pink Floydy this song comes across as.

I know we've reached peak ethics already but. Making fun of a guy who had his entire family placed into a life or death situation for some perceived wrong committed while being a streaming personality? What the actual fuck. I hate the term as well. 'Swatting' it needs a serious name; like those few evil actions that get placed in a special sub category beyond abuse. What really saddens me though are the people who react to this behaviour with statements like "this is why I hate people" because I feel like that's not just a shrug, or an expression of sympathy. It's a gateway to the same type of thinking that leads to the original behaviour in the first place. I think it's similar to the difference between feeling an emotion and being an emotion. I think the statements predispose people to feeling similar in future. I think there are rough parallels there that both lead to the kind of cynicsm gamergate seems to rely on.

I hope I do. I really liked that these were mostly one offs. The casts of these movies all have pretty amazing chemistry. I wouldn't mind them being thrown at different scripts/concepts.

I just got sick of combat in DA3 tbh. I played 40 hours of taking battles seriously on hard but eventually the only limiting factor became the amount of healing I could do in between combats. Since the ball I've mostly played on casual so I can have fun with the story more. I'll play on hard for the dragons though and main bosses. I don't think I'm that far through tbh. I've been soaking my free DA hours into completing each location before moving on.

I couldn't stand The Interview at all but I really liked This Is The End. Was my favourite latest Rogen show before I saw Neighbours.

If you're just talking about the male input why not simply buy more for home use? I usually keep a couple audio cables spare because my old headphones went through one every few months.

Darkest Dungeon: Fear is a mind killer, and so is Eldritch Pull

Whiff? I treat mine as a self healing tank. Bonus points if you have that ability that hits two for one. -
Thanks! I was for sometime a quite voracious SW nut although I was mostly drawn to the Old Republic era. I like a lot of things about Star Wars. But what stood out to me for a long time was the Joseph Campbell inspired breakdowns of the sides of The Force i.e. the finer details of Space Wizardry over "Holy crap ITS HAN/THE FALCON". For some time I didn't connect with post original trilogy EU because I assumed most of it was a continuation of Luke/Han/Leia stories. Also yeah I'm kind of in the middle of reading a bunch of sci-fi universes/authors or just general Lit. so a taste list is appreciated.

Yeah its a specific tone and set of words that when well practice are taken up with the comfort of an old glove. In a way the reaction from all abusers whether they're intimate or impersonal is an extension of a reaction found in schools. I think that in most people's life there's been someone that has called other's to task for their assumptions. An obvious example of this would be Hermione in HP. She's often presented as the conscience of the group but most times the characters and the peers in the audience I knew (myself included) brushed what she said aside because it greatly affected the momentum of the story. When people take their actions as unquestionable they deploy the same tactics to anyone who asks them to stop and make them think. Usually by using any kind of nastiness to brush them aside/minimise them so they can get back to carrying out their action at hand. The people that question their values meld in to some type of vague meta person they've met all their lives who despite being an individual shares all of the qualities of those that came before. So its easy for an abusive person to say "oh shut up already, quit being so emotional" because they've been on message to the same interchangeable cast of people over their whole lives and those people really should have the 'logic' to deal with it already. Might be repeating myself here but it's a case of "you're so wrong literally everyone you've ever known has rubbed your nose in it so please shut the fuck up already; hell I shouldn't even have to explain to you why by now".

I never really encountered Mara Jade or much of the EU (besides the always good Crimson Empire story or some really good one shot collections). Do you peeps have any recommendations for MJ or any post clone wars EU? Books or comics I don't mind.

Throughout this I've encountered: People just losing the status of tweenagehood expressing outrage over Zoe Quinns sex life after hearing about it through their favourite youtube ranters. People in their late teens cracking out of the blue a hamfisted Sarkeesian joke in some bizarre attempt to fit in. A 22 year old with depression calling Depression Quest a piece of shit because it "trivialised depression" re: it didn't fit in with his experience of it (ignoring the fact that hey this is one of the few games trying to explore or portray depression in the first place). To a 26 year old linking accusatory articles about the Zoe Quinn sex/cronyism thing and responding with neutral "hey everyone's in the wrong" when I didn't share a favourable opinion of the article's statement, call to arms, or harassment done-in-the-name-of. Apart from my partner I've only encountered two friends who play a lot of video games that share my opinions about Gamer Gate and they're both feminist audio/cinephiles. I guess if I wanted to jargon it up a bit without labelling too hard I'd say the supporters I know are all socially concious people. I don't think all of the supporters or sympathisers of GG are angry or abusive people by default but I think all of them at some point closed off to the opinions of 'normals' in some type of arrogant way. They either trivialise outcries of sexism or critique of GG or don't care because they see all people who disagree with GG as related to the tumblr brand of SJW. When they discover someone earnestly telling them in person about GG's doxing, harrassment, and general nastiness they usually take on a condescending terse tone and attempt to 'educate' you. From what I can tell they don't see their opponents as level headed people. They see people whose attention seeking emotions are so out of control they short circuit their own cold hearted logic and reason; some kind of mid teens caricature grown in the bowels of tumblr that creates teacup storms over 'tiny' 'social misunderstandings' while talking about their trigender starfox fursona. I suppose a lot of this is well trod opinion whether its accurate or not. I'm really just posting this because it's my first time ITT actually talking about my experience of GG.

Isn't one of the main points of the book that a very minimal amount of these men are sociopaths or even many other mental illnesses. What I'm taking from this is that the main issue is a mixture of conceit and socialisation. I mean another point is that they trivialise their actions and optimise their damage/time cost. Eventually it becomes so habitual that you feel like you're the one acting bizarre when you point their behaviour out to them. I think it's quite easy to turn any behaviour into something you do in autopilot.

From what I understand the writers are going to reintroduce the elements of the EU that best fit into their new ideas. So don't be surprised if certain characters or concepts find their way back even if they're wearing different clothes. Anyway from Felicity Jones' images on google I'd be hoping for a Bastilla Shan type young jedi. Y'know what'd really make my day with Star Wars is if Claudia Black found her way into these movies.

The Lundy Bancroft book has been a really great read btw. I'm about 200 pages in and its hard to put down.

You can send your people to a sanitarium to remove specified negative traits. Its not too costly; besides the fee you lose the use of that person for a week.I should have added the caveat that rule is mostly for early game. Some -be traits don't matter much depending on the hero. Like minus to range on your almost pure melee guy. I haven't found any trinkets I want to equip on my peeps yet they all come with stiff penalties so far. Also combat can be a bit weird at times. At this point you can only make camp when the game provides you with firewood. Camp is pretty much the only time you can do significant healing outside of combat. So the game incentivises you to sustain the horrifying combats by stunlocking the enemy so you can cast more healing spells. It's one of those balance issues the Devs are looking into right now. -

I'm so glad I backed this when I still had spending money. It's been a really fun timesink the past few days. I've put 8 hours into it and I barely even noticed. Sooo I have no clue about endgame but character progression sort of goes like this. Experience levels are analogues for the amount of stress each character can take rather than how much damage or constitution they have. All characters start out as level zero and must complete one mission to gain 2 resolve points to attain lvl one. So far the amount of resolve points for each mission hasn't increased but I've mostly stuck with short missions because even the medium ones can turn gruelling fast. If you want to increase a character's power you have to use the blacksmith to upgrade their weapons. Such upgrades are costly however and are best reserved for people over level 3. If you throw level zeros at a level 3 mission they quickly collapse under the weight of the evil they face and you'll be lucky to make it past two-three rooms. My advice is to not grow attached to anyone and to dismiss people the moment their -ve traits outweigh the +ves even if they're your best. It can feel like a frustrating game while you learn it and it definitely benefits from an immediate restart once you've got the hang of the game (say by week 10). I've had a lot of experience in only placing my town upgrades into the stagecoach network and just the bar for stress relief. My aim is to basically factory farm adventurers and throw away anyone that isn't the best. Think Timothy Dalton in Penny Dreadful without the weird sex issues. -
So my partner and I finished Kill La Kill and we really, really enjoyed it. It was only while browsing this forum that I found out the director also made Dead Leaves which is my favourite popcorn anime. We were mostly laughing or eyerolling at the suits or gushing over Mako or going oooh at the occasional male body fanservice. It was a really entertaining series. I kinda hope they don't bring it back because it was so satisfying to watch a one season anime that came with what generally feels like four seasons worth of material. They could always pull a Venture Bros. though. In which case I couldn't wait for more KLK. Anyway this leaves me kind of stuck with what anime I want to watch next. I mean not many of those teen action shows are that self aware (though I haven't seen a whole lot). I'll check out Michiko to Hatchin because Samurai Champloo/Bebop. I've been told to see Blue Lagoon multiple times so maybe I'll finally watch that. Idk I'm torn between craving something as tense/slowburn as Monster was, something so deliciously FUN like KLK (okay without all of those suuuper uncomfortable scenes with the mother..) , or something offbeat like Samurai Champloo and Bebop. I might go rewatch/read Desert Punk in the mean time.

Oh wasn't that episode so much fun? Now we just have to wait another ~10 months before the series starts up again. I can't be mad though. I must have watched that Halloween episode 6 times while waiting for season five. Come to think of it that show's about due for a rewatch.
