I don't get how people can use that excuse in a series that had Vamp run on water because nonomachines. In terms of silly MGS tropes 'nanomerscheens' is right up there with 'Metal Gheeearr' and it's been something the community has taken the piss of for some time. Anyway the explanation just feels like the less tounge in cheek but still equally pervy reason why the women in Kill La Kill had to wear what they wore.
  2. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Sure; it's still the reason people will give as they buy it to finish their display collections alongside their Metal Gear Red dioramas.
  3. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Fixed. Anyway it's such a shame because I do know people on super strict capped net agreements that their flatmates or situations won't budge on. Or they do have unlimited but the DL takes a week or so. Having the box as a game library fixture will justify the purchase in spite of this for some but it's just so rude to the people buying it to not have the game on the disk.
  4. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Quick heads up: The only file on the PC retail version of The Phantom Pain is a Steam installer

Earlier this month I was saying how dissappointed I was in this half of 2015 at the lack of albums that just appeared and swept me off my feet. Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz is one of them. Before people start turning up their noses its produced by Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips who are just on a roll with crazy collaborations from Ariel Pink, to Nick Cave, to Lightning Bolt, to Ke$ha. It's not a perfect album. But some of the songs are close to that.

I'm thinking FMA:Brotherhood might be the answer to: What should I watch during Dwarf Fortress? I miss your butt avatar already and I have nothing else to say... rest in pepperonis butt avatar, you were one of the good ones.

Only if he channels the power of The Sun God and wealth creators like Georgina Reinhart.Snark aside "Smart businessman who will lead us through economic crisis" was his byline. I mean labour hasn't done enough to keep up with the Nats media spin and they've been pretty happy to let power struggles shit up their own works, and, and, and.. but lets not stretch the comparison too far I mean this post has to end at some point. -At least we don't have that awful detention centre. That's a plus that should never exist in modern society.- I mean I'm so proud my country represented by world class diplomats like former Trade Minister Tim Grocer digging his heels in on the TPPA NZ Meat & Dairy agreements; wait didn't the Aussies say they were doing the same thing? Never mind that; the important thing is that we didn't need to keep our cheaper medicines or develop IP agreements that weren't batshit. Oh woops I got talking again IGNORE ME.

From an opposite end the latest FKA Twigs EP was really interesting as a series of related songs and as a 15m music video. It starts with the theme of "Girls being turned into Women by Men" and . It's also the same cred which NZ's John Key used to become the PM in '08 and '14. Anyway if you're interested New Zealand is doing just fine thankyou, Just Fine..

Yay new material to dive into
  10. Subnautica: Sleeping with the fishes

While I feel pretty obliged to play this because reasons (Aqua Gorges! <3 or riot..) Like many other games I'm not sure if I'll play this once bought; so I'm just going to enjoy watching UWE's progress on the forums.
  11. Maybe surprise is as much a factor as difficulty? I thought that with DS2 (haven't tried Scholar or the expansions) the big enemies were generally advertised quite well and even when not they were kinda ponderous so you could hear the clank clank of their boots as the wound up for a great sword king hit while you sidestepped a shield guy and a crowssbow quarrel. With the smaller nobodies they're generally quick and even though they do comparatively less damage their combos can easily stun lock you for the buddies to also get a full knife/shiv combo off. I'm thinking places like the tree with the knight or the lost Bastille outside the sentinels. With the bigger more epic guys you generally have more room, maybe some cover and you don't always have some quick grunts to appear and chase you around. I think my favourite boss is the optional pursuer and I do it so much I've never played the fight by the ballistae. He's powerful and always surprisingly fast; enough to always make me super hesitant before choosing the fight. I'm keen for DS3 primarily because it's adding in a combat system that I hope will make the big bads even scarier. Plus I'm so sad that Bloodbourne might not come out for PC and I kinda feel the same about Demon Souls.

Maybe you should start listening to more voices from other races? The Spawn On Me podcast is rad and they do frequently pull white people aside and explain why they or other black people might find certain current events or perspectives weird. They regularly visit other podcasts too. Like I found out about them after a Justice Points episode. I'm just saying that if you want more perspectives its likely easier to start widening what media you consume than finding a similar forum with a super diverse cultural/racial mix. I'm likely just super ignorant though. There's probably forums like that. As for being multiracial or cultural. I'm mostly an NZ Pakeha but I'm also of Maori descent. However I was mostly raised within a white conservative context because of an implicit bias against prioritising that heritage as something that mattered. Any talk of family heritage centred around Scottish highlands, English nobles, and ancient Greenland. Heck I didn't even know about it until a cousin from the 'rowdy' (well okay they were legit rowdy at times, as much as the other side was WASPY) side of my family told me. Anyway a super clear example of appropriation for me would be that due to the social and spiritual connotations surrounding Pounamu (NZ Greenstone/Jade) It's understood as something that you Do Not buy for yourself and that it's always to be given as a gift. It's an item that establishes a person's Mana which means a mix of authority, integrity, and respect which means that to be legitimate it must be given by another. However that might not be obvious given how often you see greenstone around gift shops or market stalls next to other pieces of stone carving. Now a lot of people do their best to educate others about the cultural contexts around having Pounamu but that doesn't mean someone can't just buy it for themselves because they choose to ignore or don't understand what it means. Plus its a limited supply of pounamu that is heavily regulated and the places where Maori go out and collect them are guarded secrets. Heck the old tribes from the North Island (where most Maori settled) would actually go on their open sea waka through one of the roughest straits in the world (The Cook Strait) just to go down South and collect pounamu. Anyway my point is that buying a piece of it for yourself given all that feels callous. Like a Maori would only really get it the traditional way but coming in from another culture you can choose to ignore all of that and just buy the damn thing with no one the wiser for it.
  13. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

So I'm slowly catching up with the Grand Finals. Only seen game one so far but it had cool action and it was neat thinking about their warding and map control. I'm with Badfinger on this. I'll be keen to sit back and watch analysis and highlight reels if they ever come out.

Tell me is it worth singling someone out in person to talk about their earwear? Oh yes lets pull that direct statement about the worth of doing the above and apply it to all opinions and forms of communication because that's surely not petty and that's surely what I meant. If you're wondering what's volatile you might be missing the context that a lot of people think they have free reign to comment on a woman's appearance in terms of appeal. Likewise they might comment on a man's appearance because it makes them uncomfortable to see earings, or bars, or gauges on a guy which sure can be for a multitude of reason beyond just the "it's too effeminate" one; although that's usually what crops up most frequently in my experience. Anyway the subtext is that the person making the critique is pointing out something that the wearer should change about themselves because that self expression is incompatible with the critic's style. That's acceptable when you're talking about someone wearing only a mankini in the middle of the street but is pretty weird when we're talking about decorative ear jewellery. It's really not worth being rude to say that you think someone should change their style of jewellery even when it is controversial to say have a nose piercing or an industrial which like I said earlier would mean that they get a lot of crap from jerks which is why I said they've surely heard all the insensitive opinions before making the lame comment just one more aggression on the pile. With the other context about specifically Anita a lot of people demonize her which means a lot of people talking like they should have ownership of her appearance in terms of what's sexy or ugly or whatever so one passably funny joke or comment about whether her appearance is suitable brushes close to those discussions. And you're right this is the Idle Forums not 'Anita Sarkeesian: Fashion Police'.

Are the jokes really funny enough to bother crossing over into murky territory? Sure people get given shit/critique for having gauges, industrials, tattoos, or elaborate/heavy earrings but is it all really worth opening your mouth and giving your two cents on someone's fashion/expression choice especially when they've surely heard it all before? "Not on my daughter/son" - Cool beans buddy that was a really worthwhile statement that made for some truly productive conversation.
  17. Gosh darnit. I was so ready to just listen to this and have the whole thing spoilered for me but after about 4 minutes in I just kinda realised a few things a) with my partner and I switching net providers we might actually get sensible upload speeds that aren't like 0.1 mb, b ) while I'm not totally sure that my partner would go for something like this I think I could totally maybe convince him, c) couples lets plays are probably kinda rare and if nothing else this could just be a really fun thing to do. So I'm just going to stick my head in the sand for this one (because I totally have just sat back and enjoyed having whole things spoiled for me before). I also realised that to double the trouble I might be able to sell this idea to our mutual friends who are also a couple who might not ordinarily go for this kind of game but would like the detective style. So I think it could be super fun to -recorded or not- do a joint couple's playthrough of Her Story in tandem if not in actuality.

I haven't heard much by Jamie XX since 2010. But I'd say my biggest candidate for upbeat new music is Mac DeMarco's Another One. Now that might sound a bit strange but if you wrap this album in say the context of the afternoon stage of a Summer in New Years when the only things you've done that day include family (the ones you like), beaches, barbecues, cold beer, and a cheeky joint it's really just the best kind of closer for a laid back sunny day.

Well I know I don't like it when my allegedly clever joke is stolen and reworked into a monstrosity; maybe the punchline is reworked so it's actually about someone's balls or it gets closer to some reddit/channer meme. Then it gets more exposure because of course every meme is funny no matter how many times you say it. Women have trouble as it is being heard so taking a joke and getting more attention for it without signal boosting is kinda rude. Moreso when the reworked joke is less effort intensive. I dunno that's just how I feel anyway as someone that used to make small jokes between people/friends before having those 'friends' retell the joke word for word or just dumber to a larger audience (more inclined to listen to them) and getting the prestige for it. I try harder to point out who did the real funny rather than solely take the kudos for the joke.

He's just too cool that guy. Songs like this are such a pleasure.
  21. Had a really good time getting the old crowd back together for some matches. A huge plot twist came about when one of our friends bought a server for the Aussies to play on so it was heaps of fun playing mostly with friends and having some laughs. Anyway lately I've been juggling quite a few games recently. It's been quite liberating to go from being the head of a competitive team with an aggressive scrimming schedule to having nothing at all. Thing is I'm at a point where I'm loving games that I play just for funsies like Path of Exile and playing games to satiate my competitive edge liek Dirty Bomb. The scene for my old game has died completely (for Oceania at least) but lately with a new patch and map we've come back for some fun. But I'm really at a fork deciding if I want to move into serious competitive Dirty Bomb. So far I'm good. I'm not super good but I'm at least equal in some respects to friends that have moved into sponsored teams so I'm like Ah fuck should I!? I'm also friends with the top two teams in Australia atm so idk it almost feels like I should just for the social aspect. After like a month or two not being on mumble and talking to mates every night it almost feels addictive going in for that whole kind of show again. That said there are so many games I enjoy casually and I just know comp play will eat up that time. Hurr
