I really like the idea of moving around the level based on recoil, I'd hope to see more of this!

[Released-Esque] Dev Log] Cyberpunk Cop Killer
Spenny replied to Molten Berle's topic in Wizard Jam 1 Archive
In its current state your game actually kind of read as a parody of game jam games, a comment on incompleteness, and was actually pretty interesting and humorous in that regard. -
I think this is a really cool idea for a story. Playing it I found I was personally much less skeptical than my character was at the start, I wonder what you could do to get me in the mind of a skeptic though.

This game was real funny, I liked how I couldn't help but knock dudes outta boats.

The graphics and writing remind me a lot of Earthbound. I like it

[Release][Testing] Mayday Mayday - Cockpit Freakout
Spenny replied to hedgefield's topic in Wizard Jam 1 Archive
I pressed 0 keys successfully and freaked out successfully. -
This was a wonderful half baked game, out of context one could only imagine what sort of mad man made it.

[Release] Unmasking the Brain Burglar

I liked the art and sound, but yeah, had trouble playing the game, it sounded cool too! -
[RELEASE] Shoot that Pizza / I Like the Hair

Awww wow, this is just excellent through and through, good work. -
Have you guys seen this wizard cat video?

I really enjoyed the intro, great writing.

I think the problem I'm having is a technical one, sometimes my line refuses to draw, then the game crashes after the 3rd or 4th sigil. That said, I like the spooky music, the action does feel arcane.

[Dev Log] What Happened To Us - a Twine game
Spenny replied to Patrick R's topic in Wizard Jam 1 Archive
I started playing through this with my girlfriend at my side. It got to be a bit much for us emotionally to experience together, so we stopped. That's a complement. I think your writing is very effective. I think moving this over to TyrannoBuilder or whatever is a great idea. You seem to have spent some time crafting more design than most twine games, with respect to text's letter by letter effect, and the background colour changing. I'd really love to see what this turns in to with a more robust tool. Good work, keep it up please! -
[Released] ROBOT NEWS by me, Dinosaursssssss

Singularity Newspaper should be an upgrade. -
This game has a real interesting mechanical set, and if you find the time to add some score and lose state to it I think you'd have a nice complete arcade action game. Also, successful use of gross sound effects.

Really enjoyed the look of this game, pretty satisfying to peg the other player with whatever object you pick up. I might have told my girlfriend to "meet Jake Rodkin" as a hurled Jake at her.
-
Really enjoyed playing this with my girlfriend. Once we started understanding the game, it got real competitive.

Is this game currently only the first room? I couldn't get anywhere other than falling down the hole left from the occupational hazard. I really wanted there to be more!

I really love the look of this game. You get huge returns from the simple primitives you used. If you were to do any additional development, a tutorial, or just more easing into the game for the player would make this game feel much less overwhelming. I want to read the thread and get a better understanding of the game and try it again.

Totally love the title screen and world graphics. I had a lot of trouble mapping what a control did to what the effect was, do you think you'd benefit from less obfuscation? You're certainly successful in confusing me!

[Released] The Spectacle was Incredible
Spenny replied to WilloughbyJackson's topic in Wizard Jam 1 Archive
This was super fun, you definitely picked one of my favourite arcade games to be inspired from, and yeah, you hit upon a very game jam aesthetic in the best of ways. -
[Dev Log] Shadow and Colossus: Back in Action
Spenny replied to Spenny's topic in Wizard Jam 1 Archive
Thanks for clearing that up. Beyond the practical nature of the style being something I can achieve with the skills and time I had, in my vision the style has a shittyness to it that is consonant to a gritty crime story. I'm less concerned with the magic of your bored doodles coming to life, and more concerned with the mental state that brings on the bored doodles. That said, even if your read was that the style was fantastic and dissonant from the story, if you read that as trying to create "a narcotic state of mind for the protagonist" I would consider that successful. I definitely intended a certain degree of dreaminess to it. -
I really liked the pixel art. Nice work!

[Dev Log] Shadow and Colossus: Back in Action

Thanks for the kind words Clyde. I'm wondering if Also, if any of the dialogue felt weak to you, I'd be happy to know so I can punch it up in a later version. Also, The Static Speaks My name was quite inspiring to this, and very helpful as it mentioned Ben Esposito's First Person Drifter Controller which worked well for my purposes here. Thanks! Thanks. I did not intend to create dissonance, so I'm curious what was the dissonance you found? Was it meaningful to you?
