Watched the first 3 episodes. The first was a bit of a downer, but the second had us laughing so much we knew it was a hit for us.

I once heard that Betamax was the preferred tape format for film schools. I wonder if they still genuinely have any real use for betamax tapes. 3.5 Floppy Discs still get made because there are a lot of old embedded systems that only interface with floppies.

Thanks for stickying the new threads. The consensus on slack is that it would be great to have the old threads moved to a subforum, thus keeping the top level for current jam. I can't think of any other moderation things we need done. Thanks for taking the time to do this

I don't see what everyone sees in that movie ...

I believe there are a good few years between us, and Heavy Metal was released well before my time, I will tell you that Heavy Metal is my favourite movie. -

I take it a lot of people have the feeling that if all an action movie does with its story is hit the paces it needs to advance the action, it's a bad movie. I think this is an overrated stance. -

I really like The Fifth Element. I don't think it stands out for its story, and sure Corbin Dallas is kind of a weird dude, but the movie just sits as such a unique vision of a sci-fi / future fantasy setting. Every time I watch it I feel like I see something new in the design of the world. It's very colourful, I think it uses the 90s movie colour palette in a way that doesn't appear gaudy as the years go on. It's easily one of my favourite movies. Also, there are so many characters where you can tell the actors are having a ball of a time performing them. -
First off, this is all for fun so pretty much it doesn't matter how you do it. But, if spirit is what you're concerned with, my opinion is that it's definitely cool to start gathering your tools, writing some test code, and otherwise preparing more abstract resources. As for the specificity of your idea, it's hard not to start thinking of something already, so I feel the most spirited way to do that is have an idea, and when the diversifiers are announced, mutate your idea to conform to some of them. The bulk of your work should be done during the jam dates. Most importantly, have fun!

I believe it to be a symbiotic relationship, where she benefits from extra attention and more treats. How is your new friend getting along?

Thanks to Lu for making the artisanal banner image.

I watched this last night on your recommendation, as the description of it made it sound, well, interesting. I didn't really appreciate the pseudo-science explanation for what was going on, but there was a lot I enjoyed about the film otherwise. They do so much with so little, the premise is realized full, the acting is on point, but most of all it was extremely pleasing to watch something use Ontario as a setting and treat it not as a vehicle for goofy Canadianisms.

Glad to see people coming out of the woodwork after hearing about it on the cast. Expect some sort of official announcement soon.

Looking at it right now, I would probably take the option of splitting the difference in the leading votes and going with the November 28th to December 13th option. If so, that would probably mean this will get officially announced in a weeks time.

I think the results are publicly viewable.

Thanks for voting, I see a surge in the numbers!

I am also a happy canuck tonight, it seems our NDP incumbent will be booted out by the Liberal candidate, but this is a change I can be happy with regardless.

Really liked this episode, especially enjoyed that talk near the beginning about the Source modding scene.

I am making an appeal for you to vote on jam date.

We were talking today about having the general theme of winter & thumbs stuff as mentioned in the initial post, but adding a set of secret surprise diversifiers like how Global Game Jam do. How do y'all feel about that?

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics

I read a post on reddit that I think sums up my feelings on the nerf. Certainly it is in line with the philosophy they described when they nerfed Miracle Rogue, but, what makes this sucks, it that they nerfed one of the warrior's basic cards that is actually good. Warsong is just useless now, it transformed from a top tier card all players get right away to a shitty poo poo garbage card. Certainly doesn't help with the new user onboarding problem. Edit: This is a good video -
When you're talking about the very fundamentals of programming, I would be suspect of any path of study that doesn't have a way for you to practice, some course work to test what you just learned.

I haven't watched something that makes me as giggly as this does in a long time.

Those of us who have been discussing this in Slack have identified two shortcomings of Wizard Jam. The first is the post-jam community engagement, the second is the team building process. As far as post jam engagement, during Wizard Jam it was great seeing all the comments come in on peoples' development threads. I wonder if we can do more though? I could probably commit to doing a stream or making a video where I play through all the games. I would really like to hear others' thoughts on what could be done to make the post jam experience more engaging. Second, in terms of forming teams, I know a few people did it successfully during Wizard Jam, but some got left out, and I would want to know if people think there is a better way to do this. One idea is to have a someone play a matchmaker; if you want to be on a team, you would submit a bit of information about yourself (e.g. your skills, desired skills, and your timezone) and the matchmaker would pick the team for you. Is this a thing people want? Does the team making process need to be aided? How do we make it better?
