  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

There are a lot of weird emotes on these forums
  2. Feminism

Tim Schafer just tweeted this and the gamer tears are delicious.
  3. Android Games

Finally beat the first boss of Pixel Dungeon the other day! Game is hard.
  4. Oh man, I was kind of surprised/bummed that you all didn't flip out about how great Zombies Ate My Neighbors is. I used to play that game all the time with my neighbor who had it. I actually happened upon it at a local game shop last year and finally got my own copy. Heck, I went as one of the characters for Halloween last year! The classic b-horror stuff in there is just great and I don't think there's another game I've played that was as steeped in that and had a rad charm about it as that one. The coop is still loads of fun. Play it if you haven't!
  5. Feminism

TotalBiscuit is a big ol' turdman and has been forever. This thing has been bumming me out all day. I really feel for Zoe, and love the work she's done to combat the stigma against mental illnesses. Most of it is bullshit concern trolling to mask straight up misogyny. Talking about the bullshit "points" brought up by people threatening her on twitter only legitimizes them and minimizes the fact that people are legit harassing her. Like these people give a fuck about ethics. They just want to control women. Disgusting. Can anyone post some rad feminist shit to counteract this miserable fucking week? I got some neato body-positive stickers in the mail yesterday and could use suggestions as to what I should stick them on.
  6. Feminism

Is this available in non-gif form?
  7. DOTA 2

Can we not do that weirdo regional stereotyping/xenophobia thing please? The worst people to play with are dota players.
  8. I like "grok" especially when used with really obtuse nerd shit like, for example Dota. I'll never grok Invoker. I also like the term "grognard." Feel free to subscribe to my newsletter.
  9. Rektreactional

I was really hoping it would be a tournament that you could buy a pass to or whatever from the in game client. Would have been my first time buying one of those!
  10. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Chris needs to watch Wizard People, Dear Reader. You'll like it, maybe.
  11. Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics

I'm a card game scrub. I have the Netrunner core set and love playing with my friends using some easy "recommended decks." I just keep bouncing off of Hearthstone because A) I find the game play to be pretty simple/boring B)I am bad so I lose a lot, which is really frustrating in this game (partly because it really feels like I can't do much with my shitty decks I'm making and or bad draws and also I'm stuck using this broken 3rd party controller while you have the good one and you're looking at my screen even!) and C) the aesthetic is really not my bag at all. I really want to get into it because my friends are playing a lot of it. Anyone have tips on how I can get better at Arena/deckbuilding short of copying an "optimal deck" or whatever nonsense?
  12. Breaking Bad

SUPER SPOILERS DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN ALL OF BREAKING BAD Stand up guy. I just started into the fourth season of The Wire for the first time this week. It's good!
  13. Non-video games

Vlaada rulebooks are best for learning the game on your own, but for teaching or looking up niche cases they aren't that great. Space Alert is SO GOOD though, it's worth going through two training missions for each new group you introduce. And yeah, rules explanations are the hardest and most crucial part of boardgaming. Especially when trying to get new recruits, you have to be concise and make it interesting and explain things in an order that makes sense and try not to double back too much. I'm sloooooowly getting ok at it, but my friends always interject and mix everything up. Also, apparently a game shop near me does Netrunner nights every Monday, but they are closed by the time I get off work.
  14. DOTA 2

The two dudes we had top were each like 1-6 around 15 minutes in or something like that while the other lanes were going fairly well. I know I went top and killed brood at least once before like 20 minutes. The other team started four manning while brood was top and our two dudes insisted we go top to fight the single brood while the three other people were narrowly losing teamfights. Then the guys top said I was bad. It seemed like they weren't getting anything from the lane and could have been better use if one or both of them started playing with the rest of us and either taking fights or pushing another lane in.
  15. DOTA 2

Broodmother is solo top vs a duo lane. She is winning the lane. Should the duo give up on the lane and start roaming or should the rest of the team focus their energy on trying to stop the already fed Brood?
  16. DOTA 2

LoMa communities are also shitty though. I totally agree that Twitch chat being on by default is a godawful choice and when that's the most popular place to watch "esports" it has to be a fucking horrible first sight for a casual viewer who decides to check this kind of thing out.
  17. Knowing that Chris hasn't seen or read Harry Potter makes me want to recommend Wizard People, Dear Reader. It's this alternate audio track for the first Harry Potter movie where Brad Neely (the guy who did a bunch of internet cartoons like that Washington thing) narrates everything like a shitty audiobook. It's GOLD but every single person I know has grown up with Harry Potter so it's probably an entirely different experience for someone who's totally clueless about the books or whatever. It's all on youtube, or there's a download with better audio quality if you want to poke around for it.
  18. Feminism

Now there are two things I'm not going to click.
  19. General Video Game Deals Thread

Minerva's Den was given to everyone who had a copy registered to GFWL when it switched to Steam, but if you got it after that you have to pick it up separately.
  20. General Video Game Deals Thread

I knew holding out in the Steam sale was a good choice. Bought in at the $20 tier, only game I had on Steam before was Bioshock the first. Most excited to finally play X-Com.
  21. DOTA 2

You should go into and make some predictions and then follow them along. Pick a favorite team or player maybe. Some of the items you can get are kinda neat, but mostly you just hold on to it and vote for stuff in it. And yeah, Henroid, sometimes you get a team that just doesn't work out. :/ In those cases I try to sort of distance myself from the game and focus on doing something right. Last hits, getting a stun on a priority target, something like that. and if the lanes get jacked up in the beginning it's best to either try for an early kill and/or just buy a tp from the sideshop and move to the other lane yourself if the other player isn't doing it. Same goes for someone not buying a courier or wards. Eventually you won't be matched with people who don't play together.
  22. DOTA 2

Blink is a really good pickup on a lot of heroes right now. You can always try to have something tick away their health like a radiance to disable the blinks, or stay split until you're ready to initiate on them. Keep wards up. Blinks are really good though. At some point it's all about positioning I think. Don't get in a place where you can get dropped on and wiped all at once. I've been having a rough time whenever I queue with my friends lately, especially vs when I solo queue. With friends we rarely have a nice team lineup or play to our strengths or make a plan and try to execute it. I lose more with them than I do on my own, but they have higher MMR than me. My solo MMR is about level with theirs while my ranked MMR is a shit ton lower, and I only queue with them for ranked. It's frustrating. I suck at dota.
  23. Anyone Remember?

Ohh, that kind of shit is the best. Did the Thumbs ever discuss the Dead Island promotional Flesh Husk? That whole kerfuffle happened before I became a reader.
  24. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

ign.com/articles/2014/07/01/gone-home-special-boxed-edition-coming-july-3 Dare I buy this game twice??
  25. General Video Game Deals Thread

Still no Street Fighter 4. Dang. I'm finally getting around to getting The Walking Dead though!
