Ugh, I hate myself for wanting a New 3DS. My XL works fine and I don't use it enough as is. I am definitely going to cave when they hit a decent sale price...

From a few pages back, but I wanted to chime in on the "sealioning" discussion. So uh, yeah, I don't really agree with the way that blog post addressed it (there's very little room for nuance or like, not-hyperbole on the internet) but I totally have noticed that a lot of the way people talk about gg is remarkably similar to arguments and language I've seen used to try to shut down feminist causes and concerns and it strikes me as pretty gross/weird. Even in the thread, there was a lot of talking over that blog posts points and dismissing them offhand. I know you can't honestly take every opinion and weigh it's merits, but it just seemed a bit dismissive. That said, it's a VERY silly term and making a fuss about it at all seems really strange. And the matter-of-factedness used in that blog made me giggle. It's a cartoon with a gooby little seal! Describing the other people as "privileged dudes" seemed goofy, they weren't actual characters. Just be like "Yo, the way you all are using this could easily be flipped around and it's a garbage way to talk about stuff." Meme-ifying every single thing online is pretty lame if you ask me, requiring people to keep up with terms you make up is straight up dumb and annoying. Like that FullMcintosh hashtag ggers were using? It's just dumb. As for TB, I'll just link his wonderful http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2634792'>Something Awful thread again.

Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

And now you've actively posted in a thread with a title like that! To add content, I'm actually pretty bummed about Klepek moving to Kotaku. I really don't care for the Gawker house style of "post whatever" and even though it might be a better fit for someone into games and feminism than the dudefest that Giant Bomb seems to be, I can't help but feel like it's a pretty big step down in pretty much every way. -
Haha, this was made because someone in the Something Awful Gaming Podcasts thread asked if anyone could recommend a podcast that simply listed off games news stories without any commentary or politics or bias.

I should just not post.

Hah, I unfollowed ZMF on twitter when he came out as pro-gamergate. Not really surprising given his schtick, but I guess I've outgrown it since the AVC days. I still think he was pretty funny sometimes, but holy heck that meltdown is hilarious. "I'm a MAN and I SHOULD ALWAYS BE HEARD!!!"

Chalk me up as disappointed in this sale as well. Though it's probably largely because I have a huge steam library already, but It seemed like there were less daily/flash/community sales overall and the a lot of the ones they did have weren't even at their historical low prices. Still was able to grab a couple rad games for very reasonable prices. I'm still completely annoyed at how Bethesda and Firaxis price their DLC in sales though.

Apparently original gameboy Tetris is being pulled from the eShop tomorrow night? I just snagged it with some of the five Nintendo bux I had on my account still. It's good!

I saw this! I've never followed GB but I do like Klepek and follow him on twitter and stuff. He wrote for EGM when I had a subscription for it in like 2004(?). Always weirds me out because that feels like such a long time ago for me, but for an actual adult it really isn't. Anyway, maybe he'll be a guest thumb more often??? His "Wii-U on the plane" story cracked me up. -
Got Galaxy Trucker with some google reward money. Its just the base game, but it's a really nice port of one of my favorite board games. Check it out!

Idle Thumbs 190: A Very Spectrum HoloByte Christmas
BusbyBerkeley replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Oh yeah, serious kudos to whichever kind reader gave them that. It's my favorite board game since getting into the hobby a few years ago, barely beating out Galaxy Trucker because failing in Space Alert is somehow more hilarious. -
The most reliable way I've found is to plant one of those dark green seeds (earthroot?) on the edge of a pool of water in the tunnel leading up to him, open the door and aggro him then stand on the seed to get the armor and just wack at him. You want to position it so that you are in water so that the goo from his attacks washes off and that he is on dry ground so he doesn't get his health regen. Also helps if you have a decent weapon and/or something to poison or set him on fire.

Idle Thumbs 190: A Very Spectrum HoloByte Christmas

I think that the key difference between dumping hours into an rpg vs dumping hours into a competitive game is who is getting better at the game. Dota, and Counter-Strike reward your playtime with you actually getting better at the game, while Dragon Age awards you with A) your dude getting more powerful and story and character development. If you want to play a game for the story but it forces you to grind through battles that don't really matter that can be seen as not respecting the players time. I'm one of those people who HATES grinding in games. I can't stand WoW or Diablo. I really like competitive games and getting sweet loot though, so I've dumped hours and hours learning games with complex systems like Dota and roguelikes where everything gets wiped after a game. Hunting and fishing are actual skills. It's rewarding to be able to catch a fish! I'm trying to think of a real world activity equivalent to grinding out an rpg character, but the only thing I can come up with would be like, reading a book that is entirely "lorem ipsum" repeated for a thousand pages. You personally gain nothing from it. I can see how a bit of padding makes a game feel more substantial or epic but it's a fine line between vast worlds and tedium. As for where The Walking Dead would fit into this, I'd say that it's the story and character bits of a Dragon Age type game without the hours and hours of grinding. -
I think that it would be good if they turned off the internet for like a week or forever.

I was having trouble with the Crossy Road controls too. Swipes registering as taps and making me die. Game is cute enough that I didn't uninstall it immediately though, unlike Peggle Blast which is total bullshit in it's free to play mechanics. Do not recommend that one at all, which is a shame because as far as I can tell it's the only Peggle on Android. I'm still playing Pixel Dungeon, which I've yet to beat, but they added bombs recently and they are loads of fun. That and Hoplite are easily my favorite and most played games I've found on here.

Hatred was re-added into greenlight or something? Anyway, this thread was the top one when someone linked it to me. Keep it up gamers!

Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?
BusbyBerkeley replied to Architecture's topic in Video Gaming
It's back on Greenlight now? -
Ahh, yeah that makes sense. I didn't really get the context of the comment section thing, I assumed it was something to do with Valve not putting Hatred on Steam. I have no clue how or why people think that YouTube comments are a good thing in any way. Totally baffling.
-
Is that in regards to Hatred not getting put on Steam? I mean, by all accounts that was a good business move from them. Was there a petition against it? Although it wouldn't really surprise me if he has garbage politcal views if the mess that was Bioshock Infinite's narrative was some unspoiled vision of his.

There's a neat little demo type thing that I cecked out after remembering this was the Croteam puzzle game, and im definitely going to pick this up when I have some spare cash. The basic puzzle solving was nice enough, and they were smart enough to leave in a taste of the weirder terminal stuff if you explore a bit more. It seemed like I was negotiating with the game to give me access to the full version and I love meta junk like that. I'm not so into the art design, really, but that's fine I think.

Would it be a good idea to limit it to one or two shows per genre or decade or some combination of the two? The Simpsons is absolutely essential, and would be my choice if I could only pick one.
-
The Simpsons until season 9 or so. The Wire, absolutely. Probably a classic sitcom. I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver were all influential. Looney Tunes shorts ought to count if you ask me. Also, yeah I have actually used those lists from /v/ to find cool DS games to play. A lot of there choices are, uh, bad, but they cover nearly every worthwhile game on a platform. Would be great to have a broad list with niche titles that were over looked but without the garbage associations that come from 4chan.

All the Batman Arkham games for $10 on budlestars. http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/batman-complete-bundle/ Sort about the formatting. Phone posting is a hassle.

Whoa, that worked! Thanks a ton! Now, WHY is that overscan thing the default setting?

Found out today my office is switching ownership at the start of the new year and my job isn't guaranteed to be mine after the fact. Just in time for Christmas! Haha.. Ha... Heh.
