Fair enough, I apologize My emotions flared and I just honed in on that.

No, it isn't, not even close. It's ridiculous that you would even think that. It shouldn't be compared Concur

I recently finished Ta-Nehisi Coates's Between the World and Me and I loved it. What really surprised me was how Coates came to where he is now, racial politics wise; it's surprising because it almost mirrors my journey: from living in a bad neighborhood, realizing the racial policies of my brown body, my coming to Malcom X and the Black Panther party, realizing my atheism and how that distances me from the Latin/Arab community--not there haven't been other reasons that distance me--and coming to a "nihilist" philosophy to life. I also have a good goddamn feeling that I'll be in the somewhat same spot as Coates is at his age.

Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy
namman siggins replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Actually, Junior Mints, people really did get pissed and rallied up against the hunter who killed Cecil. Now, if only white people could do the same for race relations in this country. -
Oh shit! Writer and director of A Hijacking has a new film coming out:

Recently bought a PS 4 that came with the new Batman--only PS4 available at Best, sadly--and man, modifying and customizing my PS has taken over my free time. I'm now able to stream movies from my computer through my PS4 and going to try to do it with my games too.

The Davis/Sacramento Area Friendship Conspiracy
namman siggins replied to Cleinhun's topic in Idle Banter
Alright, if y'all are okay with this idea: Since we met-up in Davis last time, let's do Sacramento. Maybe y'all can carpool up to my apartment and I can drive y'all to a place to eat and then drink. I'm thinking Indian (Curry Club) or Vietnamese (Pho Bac Hoa Viet) or Ethopian (Abyssinia--the old name for Ethopia) and then go to an English pub or a Karaoke/dive bar. What do y'all think? -
Oh my god... I am literally crying by how cute this is. Also, sloths are my favorite animals in the world and when I see a baby sloth, my heart just breaks. Breaks!

Saw A Most Violent Year with the parents last night and man... It knocked me out. Everything in that movie is underplayed and under the skin. It's an incredibly tense film and there's an air of violence that could erupt out of nowhere; and when violence does erupt, its dirty, nasty and mercenary. Another thing I liked about the film is it's alive. Everything that was happening that year--even the name implies--is shown through dialogue from the characters or the radio or through songs. J. C. Chandler has become one of my favorite current US directors. EDIT: Actually, thinking about it and somewhat reading the New Yorker review of the film, it is a violent film; although, not the physical violence, we know; it's more about the violence that takes place between the words, deals, glances and risk taking between entrepreneurs and trying to gain and make more money and ground; it's a more muted violence. Hmm, muted isn't the word, is most the explosive violence comes not from the blows from hands, but the blows of words towards other people and how devastating it can be for a person or people. I'm fascinated by The Most Violent Year treated violence, but then again, I have a huge fascination with violence. Later this weekend I plan on watching this:

True and it's like that with everything in life. I think--and this is going to be rambling mess--that if the overall picture holds together and each piece--even if you don' like all the pieces--works in cohesion, then a person should be able to get past those pieces they don't like and take it as a whole. I'm stating common sense here. w/e What I'm trying to say is, I thoroughly enjoyed the game especially the SS2 aesthetics. Also, I'm really into narrative, concepts, themes, place and characters. I think that may come from being a reader, radio listener especially of fiction and non-fiction docs and film nerd. I'm in that camp of "losing gameplay" or "shifting gameplay" for the narrative.

I'm excited about this. So what are some good movies to look out for the latter-half of this year? Also, we're a little past half-way down with this year.... What the fuck....

That photo is oddly fitting since I saw Alien last night. Give me some blueprints, son. I need to make this

Saw Alien on the big screen today; 35 mm, great quality and it was stereoscopic or something like it that made if wide and huge. I've forgotten how intense the last moments of the film is; I was holding my breath.

Finally! I'm going to see my psychologist tomorrow and hopefully get some new meds. Gabapentin has been.... Idk... I see myself getting angry and my suicidal thoughts have become a wallpaper for my brain, but then again, I've always dealt with that and Gaba isn't suppose to fully suppress or level those thoughts/feelings. Abilify is suppose to, but I had a very bad reaction to that. So, here's hoping for something better tomorrow. Had a horrible dream last night: I was living in this weird apartment and my friends and people who I've created as love interests for my dream, were coming in and out. They were sleeping in my bed, and think this was an obtuse build-up to the terrible part of the dream. I remember people leaving and there were two or three TVs on and blaring. I turn them off and I hear a groan coming from my bedroom; the groan sounded like the person was dying and in pure fear. I go to my bedroom and I see a man, and underneath him was a woman who is slowly killing him with a knife; the groan then took on a more primal feel and fear. I just stood there and watch, but only for a minute or less, but it felt like a long time. Within that minute or less, I felt like I invaded someone else's dream, like their fantasy. There was an atmosphere of perversity and eroticism in the air. The man groaned again and it took more of a tone of death and pure fear, that shook me to my fucking core; I knew almost instantly that that was the sound of someone dying and dying in a terrible fucking way. After that minute of taking all that in, I flied from the room and the killer went after me, and then I woke up. That groan is still lingering in the back of my head. And this is why I hate sleeping. I get the worst fucking dreams. oh well, what can you do. We all have our shit to deal with. It's terrible to lose something of great value, especially memories of past lovers and companions. At least you still have memories of them and how you felt when you were conversing with them oh... I'm so sorry Gormongous. I hope you feel better.

This looks fucking amazing.

No Coates? He's a must read if you want to read exceptional articles on race issues http://www.theatlantic.com/features/archive/2014/05/the-case-for-reparations/361631/ Compass Cultura has a great selection of long-form travel journalism http://compasscultura.com

Talked to my supervisor and I have to re-tool it. I have a better theme now--which will help me flesh out the direction of my tour--and I'm happy I don't have to change my tour too much. I don't know. I my mind is frazzled and exhausted and I want this to end, but I'm having a good time and I'm motivated like I've never been before. So this is what it's like to have a job that doesn't feel like a job. Huh.

Idle Thumbs 220: Life Finds a Way

The reader news tune was adorable. I think, it was Jake's child-like, almost jubilant way he said reader mail. -

I'm hooked on this game; well, I'm hooked on it's narrative, concept, and metaness/po-mo. When a games go this route and just completely deconstruct themselves, the nature of their fans and everything surrounding them, I'm a sucker for that. I'm really not a fan of the editing and "fighting". I just want to enjoy the narrative without having to take these side-trips, or worry about allies or creatures and the like. I'm still constructing my thoughts on this game, but I'm really am enjoying it.

I would like to see Zhou's opinion on Bay's T4, because that's a weird film. Bay is deconstructing his own films, while also deconstructing what it is to be a summer blockbuster. Also, Bay using various different type of film gauge in T4 is trippy and fascinating.
