  1. Idle Thumbs 224: Ms. Petman

No, I agree with you almost fully except for the "glad" part. I think what stops me from fully embracing this is how long I was such a field. During my late-teens and early-twenties and to my somewhat mid-twenties, I was heavily into "transgressive" music: noise, industrial, NSBM (National Socialism Black Metal), and racist OI. This love for this type of music genres pushed me into "transgressive" films, literature, comics and illustrations that pushed sexuality, violence, race and got me to read into a lot of white supremacy work. I was also into and knew a good amount of people who fetishized Nazi aesthetic. All these things are intertwined in many ways and all share artists that moved from field-to-field. One thing during my time there was that it was an outlet for many who loved such things. I also realized the people I dealt, conversed and hung with --me included--were and are social outcasts and had to deal with a lot of emotion and mental issues that came from various abuses. One way to gain a hold of those issues and feel "empowered" was to fully express what we were feeling and let it all out. For me I was dealing with severe depression, undiagnosed bipolar, suicide, feelings of wanting to be white and feeling like a complete and utter outcast. These fields allowed me to express and meet people who felt the same. So I got to pull off some Crumbs and McMillen. So I can completely emphasis and sympathize with people who do this. Of course, as I've gotten older, I moved heavily away from this, but it's influence on me I can't shake. I'm sorry, I think was just a huge rambling mess that should end with: I agree with you

See, I have a problem with this too. Yes, it does allow the status quo to be perpetuated, but I do believe people need an artistic outlet to let out all the nasty shit that's in their head. I'm a fan of R. Crumb and though I find his misogynistic, sexist and racist terrible, I'm glad that it exists and that it's out there. I am of two hearts in this topic: the first is where you're coming from and as I've gotten older the path I've moved more too and agree. But, there's also a small part of me--from my experience with very transgressive, controversial art--that stops me from fully embracing that mindframe. I think I need to step-away from this and organize my thoughts before I continue... ----- Chris: If you like hacknet, I recommend TIS-100 http://store.steampowered.com/app/370360/?snr=1_5_9__300 In which you actually have to print out a manual and use it to solve the puzzles. It's hard as shit, but addicting. PS, it's made by Zachtronics who also did SpaceChem and Infinifactory. ----- Sean: Sounds like my Dad. And being like my Dad at times, it kinda sound cool. Damn it, Dad. EDIT: Oh shit, I'm imaging a drone with a small flamethrower; how frightening yet oddly cool Damn it, Dad. That Midwest gun-toting attitude has sunken into me.

God I love Gregory Peck! And man, a young Hackman; I'm not used to that. It's like seeing Richard Gere with brown hair instead of his gray
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

    Huh, they're from Gravity.
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm enjoying this Jeff Daniels concerned look joke that's playing out.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I like him too; actually, I like him a lot. I just don't think he'll be good in this.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

Good amount of horror films coming out

Ugh. There's nothing about that trailer that looks appealing to me: The cheesy ass music, the entirety of Matt Damon's character, the obnoxious video diaries, a premise that's I think will be filled with cliches and tropes, and even the action scenes in it look boring.

Looking back at it, it was a bit rough and if for some reason megaspel is lurkin', I apologize.
  10. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I saw that and I let out a loud HA. Sadly, that HA came out when I was in a public toilet at a coffee shop and it was probably loud enough that people in the shop heard me. I'm going to follow this on and off.
  11. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

18 hours in and they're not out if the asylum. They're barely able to open the door! This is pure insanity.

What are you using to learn twine?
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Ah, okay. That's interpretation is something that didn't even hit me. Then yeah, I can see that.

For people who have gone through your posts to attack and humiliate you, fuck 'em and I'm sorry: they're an anomaly. I held my tongue, but you're being a fucking child right now. For the most part, most the people here have treated you with respect and went against what you said, not who you are and they probably have never looked down on you or thought of you as a horrible person. No one here would ever doxx you and do heinous shit like that. I'm actually offended that you think people here would do something that would hurt your livelihood. Look, I'm sorry you have those attachments to this place, but I wonder if some of it is in your head because of some of the frank talk that has been thrown your way. Either way, I wish you the best.

I'm not stuffing you to any stereotype; I barely know you and I'm going with what you wrote. I'm stoked you're going out of your way to improve and opening yourself up; you're doing something that most people don't do. Please stay and don't be afraid of people here: they want the best for you. My advice, grow some thick skin and be ready to get verbally and intelligently ass-whooped. You might have good intentions, but you might be going at it at a wrong angle. Chances are, i'm probably going to get called out for the way I approached you and that's fine. Maybe I went about it the wrong way. Maybe I misread your words. We'll see, but that's the beauty of this place. People may be rough when they call you out, but they want the best for you, if you allow it.

True that. I remember some teachers in my life that used to shit talk me and give me that look and feel that I would never make something of myself when I got older: proved them wrong. The worst were the teacher nuns. When I misbehaved they used to whoop my ass with their rulers, hands, mean looks and words. But I got payback when I broke into their office and stole their money, but that got me expelled. Oh well, fuck 'em. There were a few teachers I really liked growing up. The best was a gym teacher who stood up for me when racist shit was thrown at me.

Goddamn homie. You have the internet in your hands, you don't have to seek out interaction--tho it's nice--to get different experiences. You have numerous ways to watch, hear, and read different experiences online. If you're locked in an area that's mostly white, that may be your best bet. It's cool that you're seeking it out, but I'm feeling a fetishizing here. Also, just because they're PoC doesn't mean they're going to drop some deep-ass cultural knowledge of where they're from or educate you on what it's like not to be white. You'd be surprised how how not different we are. There some PoC who have a "white" experience and may never deal with racism and may have the same life experience as you. Then what? Huh?! Another also, it's not up to us to educate you on our struggles we might face and what it's like not to be white. It shouldn't be own us to educate white folks on that "black and brown trauma" because that shit is tiring and most of it goes over people's heads. To further enforce what I said a paragraph before, some of us never face that. Yeah, it is. He's human not a fucking exotic artifact for you to deconstruct. Good, now use google to help you. Read some Baldwin and ta-nehisi coates
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I was actually going to go back and edit that. I am planning on tackling the question because that question like that, while seeming innocent and hopeful, makes us PoC seem like others; there is an underlining feeling of tokenism behind that type of thought, doesn't matter how diverse you want to be.

I have problems with some of the shit Ras Kass says, but goddamn, he can kill it when he's on game. Cuz life's a beach and I forever be wearin my bathing suit This one always hit hard, especially this: I covered myself with baby powder, so my black ass could be light Cause God is white..... I hate my black skin, it's just a sin to be a nigga Always brings me back to the days I wore long-sleeve shirts so I wouldn't get any darker than I was. Damn... Bein' to real on a dance thread. Sorry y'all.

Just do my dance and cuff my pants And twist my fingaz with my hands
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Go up and say hi. Problem solved. Brown and black people aren't unapproachable and you're thinking way too deeply about this. Unless you're in an area that's heavily, heavily white, then I can see that as an issue. hmm, just the phrase, " How do I make black friends," is fucking irking me. As if they're something different than a white friend.
