  1. Half-Life 3

Please, go on. Valve community drama is always so esoteric and interesting and weird and I love it.
  2. Idle Thumbs Readers Slack & Discord

or mb ur a rude dude w/ a crude attitude
  3. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

It has a lot to do with our lord Christmas Remover leaving us without his love hot twitter name change jokes here, folks. get em while they're terrible.
  4. SOMA

I've played a bit of this, and while it does have its jump scares and exit, pursued by a bear bits, it feels a lot more like playing an unsettling scifi story than playing a horror game to me.
  5. Share Exceptional Articles You Have Read

This is an exceptionally bad article centered around an exceptionally atrocious interview with exceptionally great quotes from Nicki Minaj. What an exceptional article I have read!
  6. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

Do you think Netflix will put up a video of the Yule log burning in a jack o lantern to help us celebrate Christmaween?
  7. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

It's probably a preventative measure against Yuletide cheer.
  8. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

I'm thinking of wearing an R2-D2 sock, a C-3PO sock, a Wookiee hat, and a smugglers vest and shiny gold booty shorts under a big brown robe. Just be all the Star Wars. All of them.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

Memorizing the derivative of sine is useful and its great. All kinds of memorization is useful! But it matters how that memorization comes about. There are dates and mathematical identities I will not forget, but I remember them because I used them so much. Memorizing things for the sake of memorization is bullshit. Memorizing things because you use them a lot is fine!
  10. International Politics

Nah, if it was America we would've just aimed at the nearest wedding.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

They are pretty good at humanitarian responses to crises, specifically. They are an utter failure at navigating anything that's geopolitically complex.
  12. I Had A Random Thought...

Have you tried using an absurdly large phone
  13. anime

What if they're released as a double feature, but they play them in alternating 5 minute segments so no one notices how neither one lives up to expectations?
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

I transitioned to an iPhone and have an app that lets me save articles to read straight from my Twitter feed now. On the plus side, I will never run out of news to read. On the minus side, soon I will be weeks behind because I have so much news to read saved up.
  15. Ouran Boast Club - Planning an Anime Podcast

what is rurouni kenshin: trust and betrayal and am i likely to have watched it when i went through that rurouni kenshin phase 15 years ago or whatever
  16. Books, books, books...

Trans by Juliet Jacques is great and people should read it.
  17. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Organizing a mob to try to convince an organization to cut ties with a person and committing personal legal resources to the task (in the form of, at minimum, consulting on possible legal action and asking retained counsel to draft copy for a notice to said organization) is harassment. I do not understand the distinction you're trying to make that someone acting through others absolves them of acting themselves.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

I recently rewatched the Star Wars prequels for the first time since seeing them in theaters. I don't really get the exaggerated hate they get. They're not that good, but the most they really need is heavy editing. Am I not Star Wars enough? Have I become too forgiving in my old age?
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Contract killing is a form of murder, both legally and morally, so I'm not sure that this is a distinction worth making...? And oh well, she used his name, doesn't make anything dude bro did any better
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

This is like saying it's not stalking if you just pay a PI to follow someone around because, after all, it's not you who's following them everywhere. He went out of his way to circumvent a block -- a clear "do not talk to me" notice -- so that he could threaten her, and when she said something along the lines of "do not talk to women who have you blocked" he blew the fuck up and kept talking through his outrage over being called out (and not even by name I think???) for his harassment. His temper tantrum is as much about him being portrayed the wrong way as GamerGate is about ethics in games journalism. It's a clear effort to bully and intimidate. It's harassment.
  21. Space

I prefer to think it's ectoplasm and they've discovered ghost life on Mars.
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It's mind boggling to me that anyone could see this kind of sustained outburst as anything but harassment. He's ranting for hours and hours, devoting dozens of tweets to a woman whose crime is... blocking him, and then saying not to contact women who have gone out of their to make themselves unavailable to you? What?
  23. I Had A Random Thought...

I used to speak it pretty well, but I haven't used it in a very long time so I'm not so great anymore! My kanji skills are pretty wanting, especially among simplified and modern kanji (different radicals have a meaning, but as the language has grown more robust under a regulatory body they've gotten more abstract), and I have a nonfluent understanding level but can usually get the gist of things in practical matters. The most practice I get is watching the rare anime and a Japanese friend who I sometimes help with translation problems. If you are comfortable with the language from previous exposure, there's a dictionary of Japanese grammar I could recommend.
  24. I Had A Random Thought...

    1) Drill the kana. 2) Study the Genki textbooks. 3) Drill the separate JLPT levels of kanji in order.
  25. Life

I'm sure it was fine! Hoping for the best for you. When you hear back (or when you get back in touch), if they went with another candidate, it is perfectly acceptable to ask for feedback. Interviewing is a hard skill to improve, and any feedback can be made to be valuable if you approach it right.
